Aibu to be annoyed at Tesco forcing me to have bagless deliveries

Just that really, they are doing a trial and won't deliver anything in a bag. Not even a paper one. Don't really won't the delivery driver walking through the house so will have to take my delivery via the back door ConfusedBlush.

I'm disabled & the reason I have my shopping delivered is so that I don't have to hump bags of shopping from the car to my door & then through to the kitchen. If my delivery didn't have carrier bags, the driver would have to wait ages for me to unpack the crates, I have to keep on sitting down to have a rest. The drivers only have a short time between deliveries, now my fortnightly shop fills about 6-8 crates, can you imagine how long it would take me item by item to unpack all that?

omafiet · 10/08/2019 04:02

For goodness sake, people? Keep a bunch of reusable bags by the door and the driver can "decant" your shopping into them. Then bring them into the kitchen as and when. It's not rocket science!

Dec2019mumtobe · 10/08/2019 07:00

Since they made bags optional, I've opted not to have them. On shopping day, I just put a washing basket or two by the front door and decant my shopping into them. It takes two minutes.

maybe people with a disability or another legit reason could ring the store and ask for theirs to be packed in bags or boxes? I don't know if this would work of course?

Getwithit2019 · 18/08/2019 22:50

No bags with deliveries .ok we all hate change and first thought was changing supermarkets then I read some posts about bags at door and because kitchen is small thought great remembered Ikea done big strong bags and got 2 from well known auction site , problem solved

Likethebattle · 18/08/2019 23:46

Our massive bags for life sit in the hall and I just decant into those and then transport into kitchen once driver leaves 🤷🏻‍♀️

MrsNonsense · 18/08/2019 23:56

I agree they could use paper. Amazon prime now just uses recyclable paper bags and it's fine.

BenjiB · 18/08/2019 23:57

Asda have just started doing this in my area. Driver brings the crates in and helps unpack them, it’s much quicker.

Quellium · 19/08/2019 00:01

I had a delivery today from Tesco, last day with bags apparently and I think they'd used all the leftovers on my order. Never seen so many bloody bags.

The paper ones they use for the fruit and veg are good. Still seems wasteful to be recycling them after only one use though!

DelphiniumBlue · 19/08/2019 00:02

We haven't had bags with our deliveries for years.
We carry the crates through to the house and offload onto the table. You could offload into bags or boxes at the door. The drivers normally help if needed- its quicker for them to do so.
This is such a non issue. And for those with crawling babies, you can get deliveries when they are in bed.
As for the post about the cleanliness of the crates, I am flabbergasted! Fresh, unwrapped food would presumably be washed by you anyway, and packaged food won't get tainted on the inside.
Is it just that some people find change difficult?
We really don't need plastic bags, that is the bottom line.
16 pages about this so far! Jeez!

Imustbemad00 · 19/08/2019 00:04

I’m confused by people talking about the driver going to get the next crate... does he get them from the van one by one? I’ve never seen this. Mine always come stacked up on a trolley that he pushes to my door, for example 4 crates stacked on top ofneachotber.

Banjodancer · 19/08/2019 00:06

This might be a zombie but it is just happening with our Tesco, I don't do home delivery but do click and collect quite regularly. The fact of not having each individual item go through my own hands is a big time saver. No way will the staff decant the boxes into my car, I will be expected to do that - and then again obviously when I put them away. Walking round the shop won't be much more effort now to be honest. I see the need to get rid of bags but wish there was a way to use the large type is instead - so you could get shopping in the large Tesco bag for life things and somehow return them to them when you got your next shopping.

Banjodancer · 19/08/2019 00:08

I also loved having all the stuff of one type in the same bag (fridge food, freezer, toiletries etc).
But will get used to it I suppose, or just shop in store

Colourfulest · 19/08/2019 00:12

How dramatic 😂 c'mon get a grip.

magentastardust · 19/08/2019 00:25

I agree with you OP-I used click and collect for convenience and i is now going to take ages as we unpack everything into the boot. I have no problem with the use of less plastic bags at all but I feel its money saving from the supermarkets jumping on the bandwagon...why cant they use paper bags instead? There is so much plastic on Tesco's food wrappings and fruit and veg containers ..they need to sort that and change bags to paper (works for primark) ..the click and collect staff and delivery drivers are going to take so much longer.

Ugh. Google the turtle with a straw up its poor bleeding nose. And then shut up.

DragonforaMIL · 19/08/2019 00:29

@barbaraofseville Grin

DragonforaMIL · 19/08/2019 00:32

If you dont like it, get your lazy arse to the shop and do it yourself.

PumpkinP · 19/08/2019 00:33

Morrison’s have paper bags now, I don’t know if they are any good though as when I have primark bags they always rip, I had one rip open the other day and I had to fit all the stuff into my plastic bags, I was glad I had them! Paper bags are ok but not everyone drives I get on the bus and they usually rip the minute they get wet so would be no good in the rain.

Bucki · 25/08/2019 02:21

If the CO-OP can issue compostible plastic bags why doesn't Tesco do the same? I live on the 1st floor, it's going to take the driver 3 times as long to do deliveries .

Bucki · 25/08/2019 02:24

American's have been using paper bags for years why can't we?
