i love the cropped trousers fashion. i’m ridiculously short, they are normsl length on me, and available everywhere. awesome!

7salmonswimming · 09/01/2019 17:25

Potato tops? Do you call them that if the wearer has black skin Confused

Gresley · 09/01/2019 17:39

Potato tops are naff and hideous. Hopefully they will be replaced by another fad this summer (probably equally hideous and naff though). I'd worry about the sort of tan I'd get wearing them.

SamBaileys · 09/01/2019 17:41

Agree re the tops.
Disagree re the trousers though! I love them.

potatoscone · 09/01/2019 17:43

Whereas potato tops and cropped trousers? We'll all look at them in years to come and wonder what we were thinking of ...

Unlikely. Neither of them are a new concept. They have been around before, and before that, and before that too.

The potato thing? I'm sure you are the only one who calls them this.

Sparklingbrook · 09/01/2019 17:47

I don't remember potato/cold shoulder tops from before. I have never owned one nor wanted to. When were they last in fashion?

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 09/01/2019 17:47

I work in a school and a lot of the sixth form girls wear those cropped trousers with heeled ankle boots and they look really lovely. I'd look like a twat in them though. I think as you get older some fashions just get trickier to pull off.

Ballbags · 09/01/2019 17:55

I've yet to see anyone in a cold shoulder top that wasn't a complete and utter chav.

RosemarysBabyDress · 09/01/2019 18:06

I've yet to see anyone in a cold shoulder top that wasn't a complete and utter chav.

as proven by the pic of Kate Middleton. Grin
oh wait...

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 10/01/2019 12:20

I've never heard anybody criticise/condemn other people's looks who wasn't a complete inadequate. Jealous and/or lacking in self-esteem. I mean, why would anybody who had anything about them, feel the need to do that? They don't.

There are lots of types of clothes I don't personally like. I wouldn't criticise other people for wearing them or make nasty, snidey comments about people who do.

Ballbags who do you think you are? Please do post a photo of yourself in your favourite clothing... only somebody as ill-mannered as you would call you a 'chav'.

katekat383 · 10/01/2019 12:38

Cold shoulder tops are pretty naff. Why the anger because people say it as it is?

katekat383 · 10/01/2019 12:39

As are leggings. And Croydon facelifts. And skinny jeans.

RosemarysBabyDress · 10/01/2019 12:43

Why the anger because people say it as it is?
it's your opinion, not a fact, so what make you think you are the one with taste?
It's one thing to dislike something, another entirely to be nasty and feel the need to comment to your partner when you see someone wearing an item of clothing. Who does that? Grin

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 10/01/2019 12:54

What is it that you wear, katekat? I'm sure I would dislike some or all of it. I wouldn't though call your choice of clothing 'naff'. Why do you feel the need to do that? Can you not see the difference between fact and opinion as Rosemary has said?

How would you feel if your clothing/your child's clothing was denigrated? Would that be ok with you? You're teaching a very poor example to your children if you have them too.

LuckyLou7 · 10/01/2019 13:10

The good thing about fashion these days is that anyone can wear whatever they want and whatever they feel good in.
A bunch of people sneering at others for their clothing choices makes uncomfortable reading.
Who really cares if someone likes to wear cropped trousers with a cold-shoulder top? Or leggings and skinny jeans, or wears their hair in a high ponytail?
Not everyone has the Boden catalogue at their fingertips or wants to wear Saltwater or Joules stuff.
Some of us like cheap and cheerful fashion.
Life is long, if you want a capsule wardrobe of classic clothes, with everything co-ordinated in shades of navy and grey, then fine, but lots of people don't want to dress like this.

I love Alexa Chung’s style.

katekat383 · 10/01/2019 14:07

I think it’s quirky, arty and pretty.

katekat383 · 10/01/2019 14:08

One of her loveliest looks imo

AlaskanOilBaron · 10/01/2019 14:09

Uniquely terrible.

katekat383 · 10/01/2019 14:15

One of my favourites. Tweed and a skirt in a light fabric...

Not a cold shoulder “top” in sight. Thankfully.

RosemarysBabyDress · 10/01/2019 14:19

This is a recent purchase from Cos. It is a grey herringbone tweed and is fabulous.
