Does anyone else have 'the chair' in their bedroom?

You know, the chair? The chair where worn but not ready to go in the wash clothes go because it feels weird hanging them back up if they're not clean?

Then the pile of clothes gets so big you can no longer see the chair. Then when you crack and de-clothe the chair you find things you'd totally forgotten about?

Or is this just me? Am I the only slovenly one?

I also have 'the chair', in fact reading this thread has shamed me into tidying it up and yes I did find clothes I had forgotten about so definitely a win 😁

Natsku · 08/01/2019 12:31

I had the chair but now OH has my chair and I have the top of a carry on case that never got put away after the last holiday.

Tinty · 08/01/2019 12:40

I have the Sofa, DP occasionally moves my small enormous pile of clean clothes off of it and puts them on top of the chest of drawers, in the hope that I might deal with them, I immediately put them back on the sofa Grin.

I have a plastic bag for dirty clothes. Clean clothes go back into my wardrobe. I do have a chair in my bedroom but I use it for books instead of clothes.

OMG, OP. Have you had a sneaky peek into my bedroom? Where would we be without the chair? Grin

sulflower · 08/01/2019 13:51

No, for that very reason, but my husband wanted one! Lightly worn clothes go on hangers in the spare room. However it would have been me not him that chucked stuff on it as he is a tidy freak. We have bedside tables, a tall boy and built in wardrobes in the bedroom, nothing more. Even under the (very high) bed is clear.

amusedbush · 08/01/2019 13:56

No, but our exercise bike is completely hidden by clothes!

NotCopingWithThis · 08/01/2019 13:57

Our ‘chair’ is a linen basket. As such I never have anything to carry clothes to/from the washing line in and have to resort to the dirty laundry basket lid.

Theunreasonableone · 08/01/2019 13:57

I've had different variations of "the chair" over the years. Recently it was the floor but we got a new bedroom carpet a few months ago and it has been clear since. Currently it is the top of a chest of drawers but the cleaner is coming on Thursday so I'll have to clear that off Sad

BadlyAgedMemes · 08/01/2019 13:57

We have two chairs. One for me and one for DH. They haven't seen their actual sitting surface since the day we moved in, I think. Blush

MumW · 08/01/2019 13:58

I put half worn clothes back in the cupboard on hangers but put them inside out so I know I've already worn them once.

Slightlycoddled · 08/01/2019 14:00

I have "the chair" plus exercise bike draped in clothing.

The first has to go. The second must be used!

Bethanyg25 · 08/01/2019 14:01

At the moment we have the chair, the floor AND our newest recruit the arm chair next to the airer.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 08/01/2019 14:02

Yup.

One chair with clothes that can be worn again/clothes laid out for the next day.

Orlandointhewilderness · 08/01/2019 14:17

Yep. Mine is relatively free at the min - one pair of pyjamas and a hoodie.

Zephbloggs · 08/01/2019 14:18

I'm amazed how many people have exercise bikes in their bedroom.

Perhaps they were bought specifically for their clothes storage properties because it doesn't sound like there's a lot of cycling going on Grin

Housingcraze · 08/01/2019 14:23

I have a desk full of clothes

Forgottenmypassword · 08/01/2019 14:31

DH wants me to get rid of The Chair now we have new bedroom drawers.

I'm sure he would prefer me to just use The Floor, like he does, so that he doesn't feel left out.

Forgottenmypassword · 08/01/2019 14:33

I'm amazed that so many have a chair for this purpose. You never see one in Ideal Home do you? I always thought it was just me!

needsleepzzz · 08/01/2019 14:43

Everything goes straight in the wash after 1 wear......explains why my washing loads are big

needsleepzzz · 08/01/2019 14:44

Though my work cardigan gets hung on the back of the door for the week.

notquitethesame · 08/01/2019 14:44

We have 'the chair' which is like a sort of 'waiting area' for clothes. Worn once clothes go on the back of the chair, newly washed clothes that need to be put away go on the seat. I don't think I have ever said this rule out loud but I get very annoyed if DH mixes up the two.

I get unreasonably irritated if anyone suggests using 'the chair' for sitting on.

tillytrotter1 · 08/01/2019 14:56

Doesn't everyone have a Chair to miss with dirty clothes that end up on the floor? Our Chair has a double life as one of th'emergency chairs when we have to seat a lot of people at the dining table, over 10 and we need th'emergency chairs. Everyone has to go to the loo before sitting down as there's no way you're getting out later!

DarlingNikita · 08/01/2019 15:33

Totally. Mine's called the clothes-in-progress chair.

I hate it but I can't imagine not having it – what would you do? Hang up clothes in progress? Put them in the wash prematurely?!?

morningconstitutional2017 · 08/01/2019 15:53

Yes, I have a chair where I put yesterday's trousers and they're on top of the day before's ifswim. I try to wear them alternately so I'm in blue/grey one day and brown/beige the next. Tidy, organised? Well, mostly.

The floor is where I sling that day's underwear and they find their way to the clothes basket next morning. When the clothes basket is full that's when I put the wash on as the basket seems to magically contain a decent load. When I change the bedclothes the system breaks down.
