To ask for sandwich fillings that go with avocado?

I have recently discovered that I like avocado Blush I know... proper millenial here!

Anyway. I'm a bit unsure what to have with it. I fancy having it in sandwiches or a salad for a packed lunch, so please hit me up with ideas for what (vegetarian, so no meat or fish) fillings go with it, or other delicious ideas for what to use it for!

I'm not eating any more.

Because of the vast and massive issues, tied with the fact that I can very easily manage without them,I will.

I don't see any valid reason for supporting this trade.

If I discover issues that I can avoid supporting then I will do that to wherever possible.

Smotheroffive · 08/01/2019 20:48

Sobim gonna say, yes, YABU to ask for ideas given the knowledge we have of the murders and suffering...

hibbledibble · 08/01/2019 21:06

Lol at how many people don't properly read the op, or are just being deliberately antagonistic.

Red onion and tomato is my personal favourite.

Yes avocados are not the best for the environment, but meat is far worse.

Smotheroffive · 08/01/2019 21:08

Isn't that a little goady then?

Murder and drug cartels...Hmm

Kinda worth the easy of just avoiding avocados...that's not antagonistic

This report wants us to carry on eating avocados to keep employment in the town

A more recent report actually sees many avoiding eating or serving avocado.

notacooldad · 08/01/2019 22:08

EmeraldShamrock
So much conflicting reports.
I found a load more saying don't eat them otherwise you are an ethical hypocrite and others saying only get organic from Europe and yet more saying small villages need our support!!

Confused!!!

...the head chef, Joseph Ryan, sees parallels with quinoa, which became fashionable a few years ago, driving up demand for imports from South America. “There was such a spike in the price of quinoa that [it] became unaffordable for people in their own country, which I think is so wrong,” he says.

Ryan adds that his own interest in avocados has also reached its limit. “I think I probably just peaked. I thought to myself: ‘I’m a bit over this really’.”

The chef JP McMahon, who owns the Michelin-starred restaurant Aniar in Galway, Ireland, says avocados – “the blood diamonds of Mexico” – do not feature on any of his menus due to “air miles, deforestation and problems in Mexico with cartels”. McMahon says consumers need to change their attitudes about seasonal produce. “I think we need to realise what’s in season and when it’s in season. We’ve become completely divorced from that.”

He says it is not hard to avoid avocados and other exotic produce when there are plenty of British and Irish options available. “We have enough products. If you want the vitamins and minerals, kale is a good option. Celeriac, artichokes – they all grow at this time of year.”

Brill agrees, saying it is “crazy” to expect to be able to buy fruit such as strawberries all year round. “I only ever use asparagus when it’s British asparagus season, primarily because it’s a lot better.” And there is another reason to hold the avo, she adds: “You look forward a bit more to things as well.”

It's totally unnecessary, and depriving the local communities of their own local produce, we have the same issues here with housing being unaffordable due to it being bought up by property developers, for instance. The local community is now dead as a result.

Sorry, I meant to say that was an excerpt from the Guardian article.

zucchinieggplant · 08/01/2019 22:19

Sour dough bread, smashed avo, poached egg, perhaps with some chilli flakes.

Grilled halloumi and a squeeze of lime.

It's the exporting them that's making them beyond the reach of locals to eat. Their own local fruit/nutrution is beyond them.

Buy european/organic?

FlindersKeepers · 08/01/2019 23:28

Radishes.
Pickles.
Kimchi.
The crunch and creamy contrast is good.
Minced jackfruit made into chili in a wrap.

Look at Gizzi Erskine's recipe:

MoreHairyThanScary · 08/01/2019 23:40

Reminded me of a sandwich I used to get many years ago, mozzarella avocado and pesto sometimes with sun dried tomatoes ! Yummmmm

PickAChew · 08/01/2019 23:40

Spicy beans and tomato.
Boiled egg, spinach, chilli jam.

PickAChew · 08/01/2019 23:42

I will admit that I love avocado but rarely eat it, as it gives me the shits.

crabb · 09/01/2019 00:06

Ahem , here is the definitive answer: sourdough toast, mashed avocado, thin layer of marinated feta (preferably with garlic and herbs), slices of perfectly ripe tomato, salt and pepper. Utter perfection.

Marshmallow91 · 09/01/2019 01:42

YABVU

Avacado is horrific. My tastes are far from bland, but for me Avacado and olive's are the enemy. Grin
