To ask for sandwich fillings that go with avocado?

ChakiraChakra · 07/01/2019 19:58

I have recently discovered that I like avocado Blush I know... proper millenial here!

Anyway. I'm a bit unsure what to have with it. I fancy having it in sandwiches or a salad for a packed lunch, so please hit me up with ideas for what (vegetarian, so no meat or fish) fillings go with it, or other delicious ideas for what to use it for!

Feta, tomato and Quorn chicken 🤤

EmeraldShamrock · 07/01/2019 20:52

Yes I probably should.
I have heard lots on the super food fad more valuable than drugs to the Mexican cartel.
Lots of fancy restaurants were against serving it.

Strawberry flavour blancmange

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 07/01/2019 20:54

smother should have said dash, not deep lol

Borridge · 07/01/2019 20:56

Not sure about a sandwich filling but it’s great with caprese salad, so mozzarella and tomato with some olive oil, salt, basil, optional vinegar.

Smotheroffive · 07/01/2019 20:56

Ha! I actually like the sound of deep though. Grin

Avocado on toast with baby plum tomatoes halved, salt/pepper and a bit of olive oil

Avocado on toast with poached egg

Scoop out the stone and bake an egg inside the avocado

Baked sweet potato with avocado, kidney beans, sweetcorn, pumpkin seeds, maybe a bit of cheese too - a bit of effort but makes for a filling lunch

HelenUrth · 07/01/2019 21:05

Beetroot with red onion salsa and goats cheese. Add a drizzle of honey to make it extra amazing!

Wallabyone · 07/01/2019 21:35

Nothing useful to add, just wanted to say that this thread has cracked me upGrin

notacooldad · 07/01/2019 21:37

Or my favourite, simply Worcestershire sauce. I fill the pit with it and let it ooze through as I cut into it with my spoon.
That's no good to OP as she is veggie.

PartridgeJoan · 07/01/2019 21:50

Hummus and salad?

PumpkinKitty82 · 07/01/2019 21:52

I like it mashed and spread on toast with cherry tomatoes, red onion and chilli flakes

CocoLoco87 · 07/01/2019 21:56

Avocado, Halloumi and sweet chilli sauce in a wrap

user1471592953 · 07/01/2019 21:58

Cream cheese.
Balsamic vinegar.

kateemo · 07/01/2019 22:02

Very thinly sliced red onion, sprouts (alfalfa if you can find them or sub with watercress), cream cheese, chilli or ground black pepper, sea salt and olive oil

Dobbyhasnomaster · 07/01/2019 22:02

Mash it up with red onion, tomato, but of chilli and a squeeze of lime on crackers or toast 😋😋

Gth1234 · 07/01/2019 22:25

The Mexican dips. Salsas and things. Anything mexican without the meat, basically

.

Excited101 · 07/01/2019 22:47

Get a little light soya sauce on it and eat as is, mmmmmmm

wtf1981 · 07/01/2019 23:14

Wholemeal toast, marmite, smooshed avo and a poached egg with salt and pepper!! Try it.

BaronessBomburst · 07/01/2019 23:21

If you cut open an avocado and it turns out not to be quite ripe yet, just slice it thickly and fry it in plenty of butter. Eat it whilst it's still hot. It's delicious!

MsMustDoBetter · 07/01/2019 23:21

Salad of bulgar wheat, beetroot, peppers, toms etc with a tiny bit of dressing of your choice all mixed up and served on spinach.

Egg and Avocado baguette

Tomato, mozzarella, avocado and basil salad or sarnie.

Crumbled feta, cucumber and avocado bagel.

PeaQiwiComHequo · 07/01/2019 23:30

layer of slices of avocado. squeeze of lime juice. big handful of rocket. drizzle of really good quality balsamic vinegar (really good) then slices of Comte cheese. its gorgeous.

Fenellapitstop · 07/01/2019 23:41

I do it for breakfast on sweet potato toast, with rocket and spinach, chopped cherry toms and a poached egg, maybe sweet chilli sauce sizzled on it.

It's also good with raw sliced fennel, grapefruit, raw sliced courgette and tomato, dressed in lemon juice and olive oil

DaysOfCurlySpencer · 08/01/2019 00:01

Yes, there is fake bacon, so fake bacon and avocado, or fake ham and mayo.

I put it in a salad sandwich, I put most things in a salad sandwich but avocado is good.

Sliced avocado, sliced tomato, very thinly sliced chillies, pink or sea salt and a drizzle of olive oil, a grind of pepper. maybe add humous.

Pitta bread, avocado chopped with tomatoes and cucumber, spread humous on the inside of the pitta, fill with the salad, and some falafel, top off with those pale green pickled peppers that squirt vinegar at the person next to you when you bite them.

Avocado and beetroot with halloumi.

My favourite now the weather is cooler is toasted spelt sourdough covered with lots of avocado, olive oil, and a poached egg, lots of salt on top.

Saracen · 08/01/2019 00:17

Something salty and proteiny. Pistachios are good. Salted sunflower seeds. Tortilla chips.

Avocado is quite rich and creamy so once you've sprinkled some protein on, bulk it out with some bland veggie: salad greens, tomato, raw carrots.
