To ask if Hermes are always shit or if I just have bad experiences?

More of a rant really.

I ordered vacuum cleaner bags from amazon and paid for priority delivery as I have a rental inspection on Tuesday and mine is almost full.

Stayed home all day to wait delivery today. Just checked tracking as I am surprised it still hasn’t arrived - apparently it was delivered by Hermes at 1315 today!! I’ve been home all day, nobody has rung my doorbell and I have been working in the front room so would have seen anyone approach the property.

This is the third time Hermes has done this to me. No delivery note through letter box and no sign that delivery has been attempted. Address is correct, unchanged and we have a drive and an easily accessible street. Aaaaaaarrrrggghh!!!!

Amazon is investigating and will send out a replacement which will now not arrive before Tuesday.

Has anyone else had absolutely shit experiences with Hermes? Do they actually deliver or do they randomly throw parcels into the Thames?

Always, IME.

han01uk · 06/01/2019 19:48

I had a glass cake stand that was 'delivered' by being chucked over the fence once...it didn't end well for that poor cake stand!!

MeltingWax · 06/01/2019 19:48

I know Hermes always get slated on MN but our local drivers are fab - never had an issue with them. They always deliver in the evening & someone is always at home then.

Bluelady · 06/01/2019 19:50

Pete, our Hermes man is brilliant.

findurfavouritesorhaveabrowse · 06/01/2019 19:51

Always shit

Geminijes · 06/01/2019 19:52

My Hermes driver is fantastic. She is friendly and reliable. If I'm not home then she leaves the parcel in a safe place and puts a card though the front door informing me of safe place.

PipLongStockings · 06/01/2019 19:52

Our local Hermes deliverer is slated on Facebook but I've never had a problem myself. Usually yodel I have trouble from

11yrgap · 06/01/2019 19:56

I think it depends on the courier. I only ever had problems with Yodel, the Hermes driver is really good and remembers where to hide things if I'm not in. Yodel have just left stuff on my doorstep a couple if times and once I was definitely in so they must have been rushing.

Chesham · 06/01/2019 19:58

Geminijes, Bluelady I’m jealous! Would love to have a delivery driver like that around here....

Another one who has had only good experience with Hermes. We have two people who deliver both are great, they even know now that they have to ring the bell (rather than knock on the door) as I'm v v hard of hearing but have one of those doorbells that make a sound, but also flash a bright light at me.

It seems to me that it's not Hermes itself who are crap, but the individual deliveres. I'm lucky with my two

AgathaMisty · 06/01/2019 19:59

Always shit.

chemenger · 06/01/2019 20:01

Very dependent on the individual delivery person. Our current one is brilliant but before that it was always a disaster.

TheFaerieQueene · 06/01/2019 20:02

My Hermes driver is lovely. We always have a chat if we see each other, even if he isn’t delivering to me. He is the best delivery chap in the area - just outside Henley on Thames.

stokieginge · 06/01/2019 20:03

Always shit

pickledparsnip · 06/01/2019 20:03

My new Hermes delivery man is shit. I live right in town, and he regularly leaves things hanging on my door or on my doorstep. Not fucking cool.

Celebelly · 06/01/2019 20:05

I think it's just luck of the draw depending on your local delivery person. Ours is fab –he always leaves stuff in a safe place if we're out and is always cheery and helpful. Pretty sure they get paid a pittance though.

lalaloopyhead · 06/01/2019 20:07

Our Hermes delivery person is brilliant. She brings parcels to my desk at work and also has been known to bring things with my home address on to work to because she knows I won't be in.

Yodel is the only one that makes my heart sink when I see as the courier.

OutPinked · 06/01/2019 20:07

They’re renowned for being shit, possibly the worst courier of the bunch.

It’s all dependent on your local courier and how effective they are. I had a fantastic one for years but he left/retired and was replaced by one that acted as if there was a zombie apocalypse outside and he wanted me to be his saviour every time he delivered a parcel. He would bang on the door so hard you thought he was about to be murdered and if you didn’t answer within ten seconds flat he would start banging on the window. By the time I managed to reach the door he’d already have run to the end of my driveway so I’d have to shout after him. I ended up complaining to Hermes in the end because I was tired of jumping out of my skin every time he knocked. He then started knocking as quietly as possible so it was difficult to hear Grin, no happy medium with that guy.

Now moved to a new town and the first parcel I had from Hermes went missing. Try contacting Hermes customer services about something! It’s an absolute nightmare. The tracking said the courier had returned it and after days pestering their customer services team, transpired they had lost it in the warehouse Confused.

So not a great history with them either. Never heard anyone remark on how great they are to be fair.

mindutopia · 06/01/2019 20:08

Definitely always shit. Mine opens our front door and lobs whatever parcel we have down the hall (I work from home so I’m here, door is unlocked, he doesn’t knock, just opens it and throws). Once he dropped it in the mud getting out of the van so it was soaking wet and covered in mud, still lobbed it down the hall, spraying mud everywhere!

stokieginge · 06/01/2019 20:08

Go elaborate

Example 1 - failed delivery including picture of locked gate (said gate is always locked as it's not in use). The is a massive sign on said gate that clearly states - deliveries gate 3 with an arrow.

I rung customer service and asked the lady I spoke to if she wanted to examine the 'picture' of the failed delivery before I lost my shit with her. Her response 'do you mean the sign that says deliveries to gate 3'

Example 2 - we live in a new build development. And in the drivers defence our postcode didn't come up on maps for months. I got an email through saying parcel had been delivered. Like you I'd been home all day. Rung amazon and they sent a new one out.

3 weeks later knock at the door, lovely older lady with said parcel. Our Hermes driver had delivered it to her elderly mothers house 15 minutes away, and she'd spent the next three weeks trying to find us.

Yeaididthat · 06/01/2019 20:09

Always shit.

Betty777 · 06/01/2019 20:10

Our local guy is polite enough but three times now I've had confirmation emails saying things have been delivered to me (when I was at home waiting for them) but instead he takes them to other door numbers in the street, others sign for them and he doesn't check the name.

And when I contact Hermes they send me the GPS pinpoint to 'prove' that it was delivered to me!! Grrr

Maelstrop · 06/01/2019 20:10

Totally depends on who the courier is. It's a bit daft to dismiss the entire company. Ours leaves stuff behind the gate, very dodgy as the fence is missing so completely insecure! Better than not getting my stuff, tho.

HilaryBriss · 06/01/2019 20:14

I had a similar experience to yours OP but with a laptop. My phone pinged as I had received a text/ message from Hermes to say it had been delivered. It flipping hadn't! I had been in all day specifically waiting for this delivery and nobody had been near. We posted on Facebook to see if anyone had received a delivery in error and the local Hermes courier responded and said that she had dropped 3 parcels at another address in the same street so would go round there and see if they had it. Surprisingly they denied any knowledge of receiving anything that wasn't theirs and so the courier had to admit that she had no clue where it was.

Amazon were very good and refunded me but the issue was that I had bought the item at sale price and would now be unable to get another at that price as the price had gone back up everywhere else (which is why I bought it from Amazon in the first place).

The Facebook page for our village is full of people looking for Hermes parcels that have gone missing or that they have received but which do not belong to them.

FuzzyCustard · 06/01/2019 20:16

The Hermes delivery chap here is brilliant. He knows people and if they're out he's really good at putting parcels in safe places. He's cheery and helpful and I'm very grateful we've got a good one!
