To ask if Hermes are always shit or if I just have bad experiences?

More of a rant really.

I ordered vacuum cleaner bags from amazon and paid for priority delivery as I have a rental inspection on Tuesday and mine is almost full.

Stayed home all day to wait delivery today. Just checked tracking as I am surprised it still hasn’t arrived - apparently it was delivered by Hermes at 1315 today!! I’ve been home all day, nobody has rung my doorbell and I have been working in the front room so would have seen anyone approach the property.

This is the third time Hermes has done this to me. No delivery note through letter box and no sign that delivery has been attempted. Address is correct, unchanged and we have a drive and an easily accessible street. Aaaaaaarrrrggghh!!!!

Amazon is investigating and will send out a replacement which will now not arrive before Tuesday.

Has anyone else had absolutely shit experiences with Hermes? Do they actually deliver or do they randomly throw parcels into the Thames?

Always shit! Often don't leave a card and I have to hunt things down without any help.

FuzzyCustard · 06/01/2019 20:21

Parcelforce and FedEx on the other hand, have both been appalling for me.

Ethel80 · 06/01/2019 20:21

Our current driver is mostly ok but I've had so many Hermes problems.
Lost parcels, missing, delivered to wrong house/street, parcels left out in the pissing rain, left with neighbours/in bin but no card left to say where they are. We've even had photos of the wrong house as proof of delivery.

Storybarn · 06/01/2019 20:21

Hermes decided to leave my parcel inside my black bin instead of my porch as instructed. Good job dh checked the bin before emptying the bin on collection day.

Justmuddlingalong · 06/01/2019 20:24

My Hermes delivery driver is fab. Always knocks, leaves in our safe place if we're not it and is cheery and reliable.

Readytogogogo · 06/01/2019 20:24

Absolutely terrible. They delivered a cot I'd ordered to somewhere about 15 miles away, but left my details including mobile number on the packaging. I then got increasingly irate phone calls from the person it had been delivered to, who had inexplicably agreed to sign for it ...

FunshineCareBear · 06/01/2019 20:24

Ours are great. I think its a husband and wife team.

TooManyPaws · 06/01/2019 20:25

It's known as Herpes for a reason, just like the unlamented Shittylink.

DPD is the good one round here.

whyisitsocold · 06/01/2019 20:26

Always shit, and yodel are just as bad

Roystonv · 06/01/2019 20:28

Ours is brilliant, always goes one step beyond what the job requires.

AmyDowdensLeftLeftShoe · 06/01/2019 20:28

Yodel is worse than Hermes for me. I think, and so does a neighbour, that one of the Yodel drivers is delibrately delivering parcels to addresses that sound like ours but aren't and have their friends in do we don't get our parcels if they contain anything decent.

Hermes do deliver but to a random neighbour even though the addressee is in. I've sometimes been that neighbour and have taken to yelling at the driver.

John4703 · 06/01/2019 20:29

My Hermes delivery lady is great, she is happy to wait while I go to the door (or even more important to wait while my DW who is slightly disabled goes to the door which a n take awhile)
She always smiles and thanks me for taking the parcel. It is a great service and no problems

mummabubs · 06/01/2019 20:30

Our regular gentleman is pretty good, but over the Christmas period they took on temps and we had nightmare experiences- similar to you OP I waited in all day, then when it was 2 hours past my delivery slot I checked online only to see apparently delivery had been attempted 10 minutes ago and I wasn't in so they'd deliver the next day. 1) I had a safe place arranged so this shouldn't have been an issue if I wasn't in ... but 2) I bloody was in!!! And could see my front door and path!! No delivery attempted whatsoever. I suspect the driver was overwhelmed or lazy and wanted the day to end so just marked it as delivery attempted?! So frustrating as like you I needed the item and had paid £6 for priority postage.

Pearlgrey1 · 06/01/2019 20:31

Used to be terrible but recently got a new driver who I have befriended 😂 currently on matleave and receiving a lot of parcels

Weetabixandshreddies · 06/01/2019 20:32

Yep. 2 Christmas presents due to be delivered by Hermes - 1 arrived late, 1 was declared "lost" 10 days after Christmas.

Delatron · 06/01/2019 20:33

So shit.

Why do companies use them. Mine lobs the parcels in to some random part of my garden. No card. So I find things days later wet through. Never rings the doorbell. Oh no.

Love DPD though. Always leave deliveries where I say (enclosed porch).

AryaOfWinterfell · 06/01/2019 20:35

Always shit here too. The last three parcels that I’ve had delivered from them have been marked as delivered and then delivered the following day. I wish you could tell what companies use Hermes before you order, I could then avoid using them.

BlackPrism · 06/01/2019 21:12

Yup, they do it a lot with me. Say they tried but I've been in all day, give it to neighbours but leave no slip so I don't know who has it etc

Delatron · 06/01/2019 21:14

I also wish that companies would say who they use. I would avoid anyone who uses Hermes.

Jfw82 · 06/01/2019 21:22

I wish they'd say who they use but for me I'd pick Hermes every time. If it said yodel I'd run a mile and I'm not keen on amazon logistics. I think it's so dependent on the individual drivers it's hard to generalise but to take my local yodel driver we had
day 1- ran out of time
Day 2 -can't find address
day 3- couldn't access address and
day 4-no one home
Was in all through, address exactly where map shows, on drive parking and roads were open (main road)... i might have been more sympathetic if another yodel driver hadn't delivered separately day 2 with no probs! Grin

HollyGoLoudly1 · 06/01/2019 21:25

Always shit.

mum11970 · 06/01/2019 21:27

Our Hermes delivery lady and her son are absolutely wonderful and go above and beyond to deliver and pick up parcels, they even have a Facebook page to contact them with any problems.

Bluntness100 · 06/01/2019 21:29

For me it's hit and miss. I did though last week complain to John Lewis about them as they said they'd attempted delivery and hadn't and that always pisses me off. When I called and said you've probably heard this a million times before, but,,,it's Hermes,,she responded with yeah, we get so many complaints I'm shocked we still use them.

Says it all really.

HirooOnoda · 06/01/2019 21:30

Just don’t let home use your toilet - we know how that ends Grin

madeyemoodysmum · 06/01/2019 21:30

My Hermes delivery lady is awesome.

She texts you if your not in and you can leave requests.

I hope she never leaves Grin
