Dog sleeping in bedroom

We got a puppy 8 months ago and I've said from day one, I don't want him sleeping in our bedroom. DH didn't really agree with this but left him downstairs, not without asking me every night if he could come up.
Dog then got attacked by a few dogs one night and was all shaken up, DH insisted as he'd been hurt he slept up with us so we could keep an eye on him, I agreed. A few nights later when he was ok again I asked if we could put him back downstairs and DH moaned and left him down. I woke up in the morning and the dog was on our bed. This became a bit of a habit. The dog gets up constantly throughout the night, for the toilet, sometimes just to stretch his legs but he wakes me up every time and always needs to go downstairs once or twice. DH always pretended to be asleep so I had to get up and sort him out even though I'm the one who doesn't want him up here. If he's downstairs he can go through the flap and do his business alone, if he's upstairs he never figures that out and just goes all over our carpet. Last week I snapped and said if he wants the dog up here he can get up in the night and that I'm not doing it anymore, first 2 nights dog pooed all over our room, last few nights DH has loudly got up, sighed, moaned about being out of bed (so hardly letting me sleep) and I just said good morning to him and he sneered "I've been up FIVE times in the night, thanks for helping"

AIBU to refuse? I don't want the dog up here. I don't want to get up constantly through the night. I don't like the dog sleeping on our bed anyway. I'm pregnant and in a matter of months they'll be a next2me crib attached to our bed so not a chance he'll be up here then anyway. I'm making the most of sleeping through the nights while I still can. Apparently I don't care about the dog and I'm selfish.

I wish I could ban the cat from our bedroom, noisy smelly article.

Christ! i'd better not mention our dog sleeps outside in a kennel HmmConfused

OP your DH is being a massive bellend. Stick to your guns before the baby gets here.

OH did when he moved in because it was being a twat and leaping on his chest whilst he slept. These days, he usually sleeps somewhere round the house by choice (on the settee/in the linen bin/above the hot water pipes in the landing) and occasionally wanders in to tell me how much he loves me by flopping down at the foot of the bed.

All I did was give him a quick fuss and pop him outside the door each night. It took three nights for him to get the hang of it.

OK, so he spends 98% of the time I'm back from work cuddled up against my leg, but we don't even need to shut the door anymore, he only remembers the door is probably open when it's cold.

I am, of course, talking about the cat here, not the OH, who is still allowed in the bedroom.

As long as he doesn't snore, that is...

Just popping back as we had some helpful advice on here, ddog has been sleeping back downstairs for a while now but we're having a bit of a problem with him barking. He's never barked at night once since we had him but now he's become a bit of a nightmare with it. When we leave him in his room to go upstairs he barks for about 20/30 minutes. If we're lucky that's it but he tends to start up again around 2/3am. I'm furious with DH as he's always been such a good sleeper until he messed with his routine! We had to buy a bigger crate as his was looking a little cosy but he seems to like it, it's got a comfy bed in and his toys etc and he goes in willingly. As before he's never locked in. Is it just him adjusting to being alone at night again as well as a new crate? Do I just leave him to it or is it something I need to train him out of? Any advice would be great.

@TheTroublesomestTribble are you actually going to sit there and say that 28 months of infertility is nothing??! Perhaps you need to sit this convo out, since you are focusing 100% on the wrong thing. What a joke.

HoraceCope · 14/01/2019 21:21

op, your dh needs to retrain him perhaps?

Honeyroar · 15/01/2019 00:57

He sounds like he’s doing it because he’s missing being allowed upstairs (totally your husband’s fault). If my dogs bark in the night they get told off and sent back to their basket. Perhaps try that? I think you’re going to have to be tough for a while to re establish him sleeping downstairs. If your husband starts going down and fussing him it will take longer.
