To think this is pointless (Primark tills)

I came across this on facebook and although its a good idea in theory I cant help but think its abit pointless, A till specifically for disabled customers. Ive never seen any in my local stores so dont know how many Primarks have it.
But apparently you can also use it if you are pregnant or have a double buggy 🙄 Surely the queues will be just as long then? and surely its a choice to buy a pram so wide it doesnt fit at the other tills?!

ChrisjenAvasarala and Frlrlrubert you probably have it spot on. Or perhaps that it makes Primark seem caring, even though their supply chain kills people or leads to ill-health and disability.

It is reflection of how divided a society we have become over the last 40 or so years of Tory governments (in name or reality) that a store such as Primark thrives given the numbers on low income in the UK.

ChipsAreLife · 04/01/2019 18:40

OP re your point about struggle elsewhere with a double buggy, I don't. Only in Primark as it's so narrow and it blocks anyone else walking past to get to the tills.

This will actually speed it up for others as like I said before no one could get to a till for five mins as my pram was blocking the walkway. It's clearly to help everyone get quicker service. You don't seem to get that???

BishopBrennansArse · 04/01/2019 18:42

It would make one more step in an entitled parent's mind towards making abuse of other disabled facilities acceptable. Every time it's considered ok for a parent to use something marked for the use of disabled people the line moves. It started with buses then flowed into loos, parking spaces etc. Parents start to see the wheelchair logo as for them too. Been happening for years.

I want a line drawn and maintained.

SoyDora · 04/01/2019 19:00

I want a line drawn and maintained

Tell primark that then.

bunintheoven88 · 04/01/2019 19:02

@BishopBrennansArse but as @SoyDora said in an earlier post, it's not 'entitled parents' deciding they want to use disabled facilities, but Primark offering it. Maybe you should send a strongly worded email?

Also please don't generalise about parents, not every parent is 'entitled'. Some are actually quite nice!

bunintheoven88 · 04/01/2019 19:03

@SoyDora
Cross post! Grin

As an employee I am not allowed to dispute why a customer should feel the need to jump the queue and use the disabled till point..we are humans and part of a caring community..we should be able to empathize with others less fortunate and be happy to take our turn to fit in and be community spirited...there will always be people who take the piss in any situation...and why Primark have revisited their exchange without a receipt goodwill gesture..and removed it!

Louiselouie0890 · 04/01/2019 19:22

Have you got any of this actually from Primark. This thread is bizarre. What kind of person gets so hepped up about a company trying to do the right thing for a range of people. You say anyone with a disability or hidden disability or struggles to stand for long so could that not include pregnant women. How does anyone know if they're struggling to stand up for a long time unless they speak up in which case I would happily let a pregnant woman in front. The actual point is easy access just like buses this service can be used by others if it's empty. It's like a tirade for anyone pushing a buggy.

Foxyscarf · 04/01/2019 19:24

Lol flounce off now OP, nobody agrees with you and you're clutching at straws with your pram argument - it's ridiculous that you think you can tell people what sort of pram they should buy.

Sincerely,
Mum of twins, who's had a side by side and a "tandem" (the side by side is loads better, by the way)

turnipsaretheonlyveg · 04/01/2019 19:29

I think viewing the facilities as accessible spaces and advertising them as such might help reduce the conflict that seems to occur on mumsnet if not in real life.
It isn't entitled to use a larger access space if invited to do so by the company providing it when one takes up a larger footfall space than average.
People with disabilities require these spaces and have legal protections to ensure they get them however others with similar requirements if invited to do so may well also value them.
Pitting two groups against each other who probably understand some of each other's challenges is unhelpful and negative.

BishopBrennansArse · 04/01/2019 19:33

@bunintheoven88 yep, an increasingly small minority are brilliant

Redpriestandmozart · 04/01/2019 19:34

Its funny but people with double buggies tend to manage fine in other shops since its only primark that seems to offer this. How do you manage everywhere else?

It's not only Primark that offer these tills, perhaps because you're not disabled you've never noticed them anywhere until it was highlighted on a facebook post. Tills like this, with lowered counters, are in many stores, post offices, banks and hotels to mention a few and in many cases can be accessed without queuing. Gosh, the disabled get all the perks!

whatsthepointthen · 04/01/2019 19:39

I havent flounced anywhere. Im still reading, Like I said comments got closed on the post as it got out of hand so believe it or not alot of people agree with me. MN is a parallel universe alot of the time
so not surprised by the responses on here.

OP posts:
whatsthepointthen · 04/01/2019 19:40

Not really, My local primark definitely doesnt have them so the people in my area obviously manage.

OP posts:
MakeAHouseAHome · 04/01/2019 19:43

@Foxyscarf alot of people actually dk agree with the OP... pregnant peolle and people with large buggies should have no right to use these. You also have no right to ckmplain if you CHOSE to get a side by side buggy.

JennyFisher · 04/01/2019 19:46

What a ridiculous thread!

Drogosnextwife · 04/01/2019 19:49

I wonder how many disabled people would actually have a problem with a pregnant woman or someone with a buggy using the tills.

AmyDowdensLeftLeftShoe · 04/01/2019 19:49

@BishopBrennansArse - I've had to use disabled loos and I know plenty of others who have as well both with and without children. Disabled loos are the only ones that have yellow medical waste bins. Also some places only have that as a large toilet to change/deal with an older child with incontinence issues. That's why supermarkets have started to put signs saying "Not every disability is visible"

@RedPriestandmozart - the poster clearly hasn't been blocked by a buggy let alone a double buggy when trying to pay for something at a till. There are loads of shops that are guilty of aisles that are too narrow particularly in the till area (yes Boots) and dumping things in stupid places.

TrinaTree · 04/01/2019 19:51

Whilst we are here... after giving birth to my first, I have a prolapse and suffer with incontinence. It's souk destroying, and I've had the use disabled loos twice now as I couldn't stand the queue.

Is this ok or not? I'm not disabled but I also don't want to piss on the floor...

TrinaTree · 04/01/2019 19:52

*soul

BishopBrennansArse · 04/01/2019 19:55

@AmyDowdensLeftLeftShoe if you have that kind of need then you need the disabled loo!

BishopBrennansArse · 04/01/2019 19:56

@TrinaTree of course you have a condition which necessitates use.

BishopBrennansArse · 04/01/2019 19:57

I can't speak for every disabled person but I know at least four.

TrinaTree · 04/01/2019 19:58

Hard to know what is and isn't allowed sometimes... I mean I did choose to have kids after all! So why is it any different from someone who also chose to have children but suffered during pregnancy, as opposed to after?

whatsthepointthen · 04/01/2019 19:58

*Today 19:49 Drogosnextwife

I wonder how many disabled people would actually have a problem with a pregnant woman or someone with a buggy using the tills.*

Probably the same people that get annoyed about them using the disabled toilets. Which ive seen people get annoyed at.
