To think this is pointless (Primark tills)

I came across this on facebook and although its a good idea in theory I cant help but think its abit pointless, A till specifically for disabled customers. Ive never seen any in my local stores so dont know how many Primarks have it.
But apparently you can also use it if you are pregnant or have a double buggy 🙄 Surely the queues will be just as long then? and surely its a choice to buy a pram so wide it doesnt fit at the other tills?!

Great idea for disabled pepople.

But people who are pregnant or have double buggies should absolubtely NOT be allowed to use it.

BollocksIsNoACompleteSentence · 04/01/2019 14:16

You'd have to be a bit hard hearted to begrudge someone using a till for five minutes with a double buggy because they have two small children. I say that as a wheelchair user.

Ooplesandbanoonoos · 04/01/2019 14:16

I think maybe edit this photo as the girl working behind the till may not want her photo on mumsnet...

SoupDragon · 04/01/2019 14:17

I imagine like everything else people with disabilities will be pushed to the back of the que

I imagine that they'll simply keep their place in the much shorter queue at this sort of till actually. I doubt anyone's going to shove them to the back.

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 04/01/2019 14:17

When I go to Primark in my wheelchair and approach the queue, a member of staff has always rushed to the disabled till and called me forward. This is because their queueing system is too narrow to navigate my wheelchair around and the counter is lower so I can reach to enter my pin/sign a refund receipt.

If this bothers you, I suggest you don't post it on the internet, as it makes you look incredibly disableist.

whatsthepointthen · 04/01/2019 14:17

Didnt post.

Actually there are loads
of mums with double buggies in my area.

GunpowderGelatine · 04/01/2019 14:17

like I said nice idea but should be purely for disabilities because being pregnant or having a double pram isnt a disability.

So what? Still makes little things like shopping that little bit harder.. unless you despise parents or children I can't imagine why you wouldn't support making life easier for them? A disabled person would have to wait maybe 5 minutes to use this till if a parent or pregnant lady is already there, so probably still quicker than the regular queue

Pachyderm1 · 04/01/2019 14:18

I don’t think able-bodied people’s opinions should be given much weight when it comes to debating whether accommodations for the disabled are ‘pointless’.

BollocksIsNoACompleteSentence · 04/01/2019 14:18

Although entitled rude people like mummummum1 can definitely go to the back of the queue!

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 04/01/2019 14:19

So if they ameded the sign to say “disabilities, pregnant women and double buggies” would that make you feel less annoyed about it?

SoupDragon · 04/01/2019 14:19

But people who are pregnant or have double buggies should absolubtely NOT be allowed to use it.

A double buggy wouldn't get to the tills at my local Why shouldn't they use a til that is accessible to them? What do you suggest they do?

BollocksIsNoACompleteSentence · 04/01/2019 14:19

And mummummun1 it isn't a disability is it? It's nothing remotely like a disability and it's offensive to think it is, quite frankly.

whatsthepointthen · 04/01/2019 14:19

Erm my problem is that double buggies and pregnant women can use it aswell. It should only be for disabled people so read before you comment! I said its pointless IF pregnant women and those with double buggies can use it aswell!

OP posts:
foxtiger · 04/01/2019 14:19

and surely its a choice to buy a pram so wide it doesnt fit at the other tills?!

If you have two children who are too small to walk, then you need either a double buggy or possibly a front-and-back type pushchair. We tried the latter briefly (DC are 1 and a half years apart) but it really didn't work for us, as DC1 still needed to be able to sleep in the pushchair, and the seat designed for the older child did not have a high or reclinable enough back for him to sleep comfortably. Also, that pushchair was so long from front to back that it caused just as many problems as a side-by-side one where space was limited - I don't think we could have used it in the pushchair space on most buses, for example (although as it happens we didn't live on a bus route at the time so it never arose).

BollocksIsNoACompleteSentence · 04/01/2019 14:20

Are you disabled OP?

And do Primark themselves say it is for buggies and pregnant people? I don't use Facebook.

GunpowderGelatine · 04/01/2019 14:20

Also what @MumMumMum1 said. Pure internalised misogyny.

I hate to tell you this OP but when a disabled person, pregnant person or double buggy user isn't using the till, able bodied people are probably using it

SoupDragon · 04/01/2019 14:21

*I said its pointless IF pregnant women and those with double buggies can use it

Why is it pointless? The queue will be much shorter even with double buggies or pregnant women using it.

BollocksIsNoACompleteSentence · 04/01/2019 14:22

Gunpowder at my Primark no staff are at that till until there is wheelchair so I doubt it they would be served.

Mulberry72 · 04/01/2019 14:22

I use a stick and if I’m ever queueing in Primark I always get taken from the queue over to the disabled access till to pay.

I’ve had quite a few shitty comments from people about it but I just ignore.

whatsthepointthen · 04/01/2019 14:22

Its still a choice foxtiger just like having children is a choice.

OP posts:
MumMumMum1 · 04/01/2019 14:22

@BollocksIsNoACompleteSentence. Yeah really entitled sticking up for mums who get nothing but abuse for using things designed to help them constantly on this site! ‘Well we made do without it in our day’ so what? Well done you. I don’t have a double buggy but I can imagine pushing one round town, through crowds is a chore so if they want to pay at a wider till to make their lives easier for 5 minutes big friggin deal?! I’m sure any disabled person behind them in the queue wouldn’t begrudge it! Just the ‘pregnancy & babies are not a disability gang’ of mumsnet. So yeah I stand by; fuck off.

MaHeidsGouping · 04/01/2019 14:23

I remember a few years back going to queue in Primark with a double buggy, when I saw how narrow the line was I did think to myself how the hell I was going to get round to the tills. Thankfully a shop assistant came over to me and took me to a end till so I can't see whats so wrong about Primark doing this for wheelchair users.

Consolidateyourloins · 04/01/2019 14:23

What a weird thing to get hungabout.

Surely more accessible places for those who need them is good thing

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 04/01/2019 14:23

I said its pointless IF pregnant women and those with double buggies can use

No you didn't. You said this:

I came across this on facebook and although its a good idea in theory I cant help but think its abit pointless, A till specifically for disabled customers

Then you went on to add a point about buggies.

Vile post.

GunpowderGelatine · 04/01/2019 14:24

So because children are a choice OP we have to make life as difficult as possible to those who have them? If you so clearly despise parenting why are you on a parenting site?

I can't bear this sort of expectation that parents should be martyring themselves and saying "oh sorry about the inconvenience of my children, if it helps I'll make life difficult for myself". As Mum said we really don't like parents (let's face it, mums, women) having an easy life do we?
