Honestly... this is lighthearted and not some weirdo fetish...

I have the fortune to have the cupboard over the loo. I have 1 cupboard... HE has 2 Confused so my stuff is just kinda shoved in.

Got something out the other day and my ladyshave... which is antique I might add - promptly fell down the loo. I grabbed it out - and immediately binned it... Having images of being electrocuted whilst trimming didn't fill me with confidence.

I bought that beaut aged 12/13 when my Mum finally agreed I could buy one. I had fluffy, downy, hairy legs. I wasn't allowed razors but could buy a ladyshave as it was safer.

I've had that thing for 20 years.... 20!

sniff

I now need to find another... replacement... that doesn't leave stubble behind!

What's your oldest item?

My Henry the Hoover was born in 1987. I adopted him from my Godmother when she passed in 2004. He's not so good on carpets so he's gone into retirement and my Shark does the heavy work now. He outlasted my husband (we divorced, he's not departed might I add) and moved house 5 times with me.

I have my granny’s cast iron pots from when she got a new cooker rond about 1950.

BigGreenOlives · 05/01/2019 18:42

I have my toasted sandwich machine from 1986 and magimix from 1989 (18th & 21st birthday presents). Also a dress from 1988 that I wore to a party last year.

Dd1 wears a French Connection skirt of mine from 1994 quite often. I wish I still had the suede mini I bought in 1995 but it went mouldy when we lived somewhere humid so I had to toss it.

Crackedvase · 05/01/2019 18:49

I have the duvet cover and pillow case from my first big girl bed (1981) and it has adorned my 3 dds beds during toddlerhood. Its so faded but the cotton is so soft and I just love it.

I have the first and only hairdryer I got when I was a teenager. I can't remember exactly when, but I was probably 13-15 years old, which means it must be about 40 years old. Admittedly I don't blow dry my hair very often - it's naturally curly and looks better drying on its own - but still fairly impressive!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 05/01/2019 18:55

My brother bought me a “clock radio” for my 12th birthday that’s still going
I’m 45 this year

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 05/01/2019 18:56

I have a jumper that I bought aged 12 to grow into
It’s still in my drawer and fits me
And as above am nearly 45

Bonnetdedeuce · 05/01/2019 19:07

Readysteadygoat · 05/01/2019 19:33

My Mum has a toaster that can be found at as part of an exhibit on electricity at the Amberley Museum and Heritage Centre.

When clearing out some old Christmas decorations this week we found an old Christmas how to magazine dating from 2002.

I think my oldest possession is a camera dating from around 1990. It's long and thin and held horizontally. My kids had no idea what it was

This very day, my Rexel home paper shredder has died on me, after approx. 20 years of unquestioning, discreet and loyal service.

I still have the cloth doll I made in primary. She still wears the same clothes, has all her hair but has lost her shoes. She’ll be about 54 years old !! Smile

Sneezein3s · 05/01/2019 20:33

Absolutely love this thread! I still have my silvery comb which was a few gift on the cover of a copy of Bliss magazine circa 1995! Lives in my shower to comb conditioner through my wet hair, it still has the logo on too! Smile

I have a couple of 'old' things.

A pair of walking boots that are about 25 years old.....my mum uses them now but they were bought for me when I was about 16 as a girl guide as i was doing a lot of walking.
Funnily enough i borrowed them recently for a charity walk and i found it funny that my boots were older than some of the people i was walking with lol.

My gran bought me a coat when i was 18. (This makes the coat 22 now!) Its a long black, slightly fitted at the waist wool coat. A great length and the fit is fab. I still feel so good in it!
Still in fantastic condition (had it at dry cleaners a few times) and it still fits and i still wear it!!!
It was from C&A! I remember taking her in and looking at them. It was about £85 back then, so not cheap at all.

Imabadmummy · 05/01/2019 22:02

Omg bedding!
I forgot about that!
I have a whinne the pooh duvet cover and pillow case i got as a kid. Guessing it was bought for me early 90's and i still have it.
Its a single, mum had kept it as a spare with her spare duvet and i 'borrowed' it back and kept it.
Now my kids spare if we need a change of bedding in the night.

browneyes77 · 05/01/2019 22:13

When I moved into my flat 22 years ago I bought a 6ft Christmas tree from Woolworths for £9.99.

I’m still using it 22 years later and it’s still in as good condition as it was then.

What a bargain

Proseccoagain · 05/01/2019 22:22

A Philips mixer bought in Singapore in 1969, still going strong, used to make the royal icing for the Christmas cake recently.
Omega watch, bought by DH for me in Singapore 1969, the first Christmas present he bought me. Have worn it every day since, apart from it going in for servicing.
DH's Omega watch, bought for him by his parents in 1959, which is now being worn by our son.
My mother's mixing bowl from the 1950s.
My aunty's silver locket from 1920s/30s.
And a Victorian/Edwardian bracelet, a Christmas present from DH.

Nacreous · 05/01/2019 22:29

My oldest practical thing is a Victorian silver thimble, though I definitely inherited this, rather than owning from new!

Geography999 · 05/01/2019 22:43

I’ve got my mums old teddy bear which still sits on my bed. Has to be 70 years old or more. I’ve also got a gold sparkly cardi from Tammy girl which I still wear to work in the summer - sounds gross, but it’s really nice! Smile

user1473460538 · 05/01/2019 22:56

Jeanneweany · 05/01/2019 23:14

I have a pink fluffy dressing gown called "my bunny". Received it as a gift 31 years ago.

Jeanneweany · 05/01/2019 23:15

The dog lies on it.

Wauden · 05/01/2019 23:18

I found a little bunny stuffed toy which I had when a baby, which makes it the thing I have owned the longest. That's, (cough cough) 21 years old ... and a bit (cough) more Smile
