to mourn the "death" of my ladyshave.... Whats your oldest belonging?

Honestly... this is lighthearted and not some weirdo fetish...

I have the fortune to have the cupboard over the loo. I have 1 cupboard... HE has 2 Confused so my stuff is just kinda shoved in.

Got something out the other day and my ladyshave... which is antique I might add - promptly fell down the loo. I grabbed it out - and immediately binned it... Having images of being electrocuted whilst trimming didn't fill me with confidence.

I bought that beaut aged 12/13 when my Mum finally agreed I could buy one. I had fluffy, downy, hairy legs. I wasn't allowed razors but could buy a ladyshave as it was safer.

I've had that thing for 20 years.... 20!

sniff

I now need to find another... replacement... that doesn't leave stubble behind!

What's your oldest item?

Microwave still going got it in 1989 from Iceland or Bejam whichever it was called in those days. A Hinari.

paap1975 · 03/01/2019 16:19

I have a mug that I used to use at my grandmother's. So it's probably about 40 now. Too scared to used it as I'd be heartbroken if it got broken.

My godmother still uses the slow cooker she got as a wedding present over 50 years ago!

Time40 · 03/01/2019 16:21

@Time40 I don't think I've emptied the bin blush so I might be able to rescue it

I hope you can, cjt. I have to know - I'm really worried about it now! It's just too sad to lose something like that.

cjt110 · 03/01/2019 16:25

@Time40 ... I called... actually just called... DH and explained. He has just text me to say "I have retrieved it from the bin" (NB it's a bathroom bin not kitchen bin so just with loo roll cardboard in and perhaps an old shampoo bottle)

I replied that I needed to also retrieve the wire and pouch!

I have a cardigan I bought from Miss Selfridge in 1990, it's a silver quite sheer evening sort of affair. Comes in handy on a regular basis for nights out and Christmas!

Time40 · 03/01/2019 16:35

Yay! I'm so pleased. Pleased that your DH found it, that is, not pleased that you're going to haunt me if you die.

Good luck. I hope it comes back to life.

Neverunderfed · 03/01/2019 16:36

My electric toothbrush! 12 years and counting. I thought it had died over Christmas but nope, it has resurrected itself.

dapplegrey · 03/01/2019 16:37

My dh had a penknife which his grandfather carried through the First War. Dh was travelling in an old waxed jacket with various pockets one of which contained the penknife (which he’d forgotten was there) and it was picked up by security at the airport and confiscated.
His fault obviously but he was upset because of the penknife’s history.

cjt110 · 03/01/2019 16:38

@Time40 I will be sure to let you know... or haunt you Wink

A habitat duvet cover from 1977. Still use it. We call it 'the poorly quilt' as it's so soft and comfy and when my DD was little and sick it made her better (she said). (That, and chips).

Time40 · 03/01/2019 16:46

I shall be waiting for news, cjt. Waiting slightly nervously ...

silentcrow · 03/01/2019 16:50

My alarm clock is more than 32 years old. I don't know exactly but I know I got it before I was ten, so maybe as much as 35. The light doesn't work any more and I use my phone rather than the alarm, but it's still keeping good time. In fact it stopped working ten years ago and my DH took it apart, cleaned it out, soldered a few bits and resurrected it. I cried cos it was such a sweet thing to do.

The oldest thing in the house is a book from the 1870s.

morningconstitutional2017 · 03/01/2019 17:14

My dressing gown is 22 years old so still a young stripling really.

I've a cottage style coffee pot which I bought on honeymoon in 1980.

Two plates from the Co-Op, one brown and white floral; and the other blue willow pattern probably bought when we first began to live together. I never want to part with these.

My hair dryer and curling tongs are also pretty ancient but not sure when they were bought.

rosydreams · 03/01/2019 17:19

A cast iron frying pan i inherited it from mother although its now rusty its still in the kitchen lol

Eminybob · 03/01/2019 17:25

I have a dressing gown that is 20 years old. It’s a Tigger one that I bought from the Disney store when I was 18.
It’s threadbare and has lived in 3 different countries with me, I don’t wear it anymore but it still hangs on the back of my bedroom door with my others.

DarthLipgloss · 03/01/2019 17:49

I have two Prestige saucepans which were wedding presents for my parents in 1967.
They were originally a 3some with a chip pan, my mum binned that sometime in the 90s.

cjt110 · 03/01/2019 17:50

Ironing basket that was an engagement present in 1978 and pyrex dishes that were a wedding present in 1982. Oh and a christmas decoration that my mum bought when I was born in 1958. All in regular use.

Sarahlou63 · 03/01/2019 17:52

I have a Levis sweatshirt that I bought when I was 18. Still worn regularly 37 years later!

SerenDippitty · 03/01/2019 17:53

I’ve got a velvet top from Monsoon that is 20 years old. Still comes out occasionally.

In terms of electrical beauty my first pair of GHDs conked out last month, impeccable timing really, they were 10 years old.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 03/01/2019 18:16

Leather biker jacket from top shop bought in 1998. Needs the lining reading and some tlc. You can prize it off my dead body.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 03/01/2019 18:21

I have a 28 year old hand held mixer

And a blender bought when ds1 was 4 months old...he has just turned 20

EllenOlenska · 03/01/2019 18:41

I still have my 32 yr old Babylis hair crimpers! Haven't used them in a good while though Grin

MrsBartlet · 03/01/2019 18:53

The oldest thing I have which I still use is a marks and spencer overnight bag which my parents bought for me nearly 30 years ago when I was going to university. Just looked it up online and see people are selling them as vinatge items on ebay Grin. I will not be parted from mine!
