to mourn the "death" of my ladyshave.... Whats your oldest belonging?

Honestly... this is lighthearted and not some weirdo fetish...

I have the fortune to have the cupboard over the loo. I have 1 cupboard... HE has 2 Confused so my stuff is just kinda shoved in.

Got something out the other day and my ladyshave... which is antique I might add - promptly fell down the loo. I grabbed it out - and immediately binned it... Having images of being electrocuted whilst trimming didn't fill me with confidence.

I bought that beaut aged 12/13 when my Mum finally agreed I could buy one. I had fluffy, downy, hairy legs. I wasn't allowed razors but could buy a ladyshave as it was safer.

I've had that thing for 20 years.... 20!

sniff

I now need to find another... replacement... that doesn't leave stubble behind!

What's your oldest item?

I have many things that are seriously old, (like my teddy which is 58) but I do have a jumper that I am going to wear this weekend. Hubby is taking me away for the weekend to celebrate 25 years since our first date. I wore the jumper then and he's never forgotten his first sight of me in said jumper (blind date). It was a good few years old by then.

LazyDoll · 03/01/2019 19:56

I have a pair of Tevas, 2 x Topshop sarongs and a sleeping bag all bought in 1999 to go travelling. They’re all still going strong!

Smurfy23 · 03/01/2019 19:58

I have a good processor in its mid 20s. Still going strong!

Smurfy23 · 03/01/2019 19:58

I also have a food processor in its mid 20s!

Nnnnnineteen · 03/01/2019 19:58

I now feel tragic, although take comfort in the fact many of the thread are with me. My crockery is 20+ and up to 50+ years old. My coffee maker was bought in 1983. I cleared out my wardrobe and wear little of it, but most of it is 10+ years old some over 20 years old. My wedding dress was vintage (1950s). One of my pieces of jewellery dates back to 1870. I'm clearly living in the past, or excellent at reusing.

Airbiscuits · 03/01/2019 20:00

I had some curling tongs (green and white, with steak function) that inherited from my grandma. I broke them this year. I am 46 and have had them since I was about 8....and they could have been much older

Clairol Crazycurl

Nothing else has come close to them 😢

We are just about to replace our massive 24 year old microwave, I’m ecstatic!
My 19 year old scales have died and I was sad but I’m looking forward to the new ones coming now. Look so much better.

Ladygaladriel · 03/01/2019 20:01

I’ve still got my very first GHDs from 2004. It felt such an extravagance spending so much money on straighteners at uni but I’ve definitely had my money’s worth.

Airbiscuits · 03/01/2019 20:01

*steam function, not steak!

Steak would have been VERY special

Airbiscuits · 03/01/2019 20:03

Plus I have been skiing this week in polartec base layer that have had for 23 years at least

Kirsteninakilt · 03/01/2019 20:15

I forgot my Kenwood food processor 1988 still going strong although I have replaced the bowl and my late mother's Le Creuset cast iron casserole dish think that has to be at least from the 1970s

Time40 · 03/01/2019 20:17

It works!!! And so soon, too. Cjt, that's great news. I'm so happy. (That is ... unless your last post was a message from beyond the grave ... )

I like this thread. It would be nice to see some photos of all these much-loved items.

haverhill · 03/01/2019 20:19

I have Christmas tree ornaments from the 1950s and 60s, although these were inherited, not bought by me.
I have a 20 year old jumper, and a 30 year old t-shirt.

KittiKat · 03/01/2019 20:24

My Grandparents bought me a lady shave for my 16th birthday. It's still going strong. It is over 30 years old now! Shock

Airbiscuits

cjt110 · 03/01/2019 20:53

I'm drinking my coffee at the moment from a mug commemorating Charles and Diana's wedding 29th July 1981.

Lindorballs · 03/01/2019 20:58

My DM is a serious hoarder. She has a house plant that is older than me (35), and kids games that she used as a teaching resource when she worked as a teacher before I was born which she plays with my kids now. Also numerous pots and pans. She would never get rid of something just because she fancied an upgrade and takes very good care of things.

cjt110 · 03/01/2019 20:59

@Time40 DH put it on a towel on the radiator me. He may love shit yellow appliances... but it's true love ❤

And as requested... here she is... Exciting eh?!

I love this thread, it's a nice companion to the no-buy 2019 one. I said my resolution was only buy things that I was willing to repair, to which I'll add things that I hope will last me for fifty years!

Mind you it's the random shit that sticks around sometimes-I have 35 year old plastic camping cups and a vest top I remember buying in Internacionale.

Polskieexpat · 03/01/2019 21:12

I've got some wooden Christmas tree decorations from my parents that they bought the year I was born so they're 30 years old.

I have a mug with 'I love NY' on it from an old school friend that's going on 18 years!! It's been through several house moves including a road. If my husband breaks I will break him 😁.

I also have a jumper that my dad brought back from Aspen on a business trip when I was about 10 which I still wear occasionally (I was a big kid 😂)!

No old electrical items - although my straighteners must be 10 years old and still going strong so maybe they'll make it!!

Polskieexpat · 03/01/2019 21:12

*abroad!!!

lms2017 · 03/01/2019 21:22

I have my pony who I got for my 10th Birthday I am 31 this year so had her 21 years she will be with me forever now and Also my other horsey who I have had 20 years . I also have been skint for the majority of those 21 years since working age. I am unfortunately not a rich horsey owner 😂 x

cjt110 · 03/01/2019 21:23

@snapsnapsnap I almost bought a new one today before I was encouraged upthread to save her. I was disgusted they're so pricey now.. I'm certain aged 12/13 I didn't pay £15+...

Ooh I’ve got a good one. A bag for life from a supermarket from the millennium (has happy 2000 with fireworks on)! Truly this is the idea of a bag for life no? Again this was something my hoarding DM had been storing things in at home.
