To tell these smokers on the next sunbed to not smoke

Have been relaxing on my sunbed ( on holiday abroad). Couple just arrived. Sat down on next sunbed and have been chain smoking since. Im asthmatic- do I tell them? Or do I move? Why do they think this is ok when all the public health warnings tell them it’s not?

You need to move. I wouldn’t like to sit next to smokers either but they’re not doing anything wrong and have every right to smoke outside.

Shoxfordian · 02/01/2019 14:26

Is it allowed there? Are there ashtrays? They're outside enjoying their holiday so I don't think there's much you can do about it

Celebelly · 02/01/2019 14:27

I'd just move somewhere else. Presumably you're outside and they're legally allowed to smoke there, whether it's pleasant or not.

Fluffyears · 02/01/2019 14:27

You’ll have to move i’m Afraid they are legally allowed to smoke outside. I would make smoking pens for outside smokers though so I don’t need to walk through the clouds of it .

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 02/01/2019 14:27

You can ask them, or move sunbeds yourself. You can’t tell them not to smoke.

mistermagpie · 02/01/2019 14:27

Well I doubt they are unaware of the health risks to be honest. I would feel exactly the same as you, but if they are 'allowed' to smoke in public places where you are then there isn't much you can do. I would just move myself.

Aridane · 02/01/2019 14:28

Regrettably I think you have to move

Phoebesgift · 02/01/2019 14:28

Why do you think you can tell them not to smoke? Are there signs up banning it? Just move. Simple.

babysharkah · 02/01/2019 14:28

You could try asking them, not telling them. Assuming wherever you are that they are allowed to smoke there not much you can do about it apart from move yourself.

knittedjest · 02/01/2019 14:28

Just move. You're the one with the issue. The entire world does not recolve around you.

Loveweekends10 · 02/01/2019 14:31

Obviously Im aware the entire world does not revolve around me. There is really no need to be rude.

Thanks for the more positive responses. I guess I will move.

I'd just move personally, I doubt they will stop smoking because you asked them not to.

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 02/01/2019 14:54

I'm amazed you had to ask.

LoniceraJaponica · 02/01/2019 14:58

I hate it when people sit near me and smoke outside, but I move as I don't want to start a fight. If there were signs prohibiting smoking I might point them out, but unfortunately they do have the right to pollute the air with their disgusting habit.

Sandsnake · 02/01/2019 14:59

They’re gross and rude but if it’s permitted then you will have to move, unfortunately. If I was a smoker then I wouldn’t dream of setting up and chain smoking where someone who didn’t smoke was already relaxing. As I said - it’s just rude. But I think you will have to suck it up. Have a lovely holiday!Smile

EmeraldShamrock · 02/01/2019 15:05

They're really inconsiderate. I would ask them to stop or move, you're not there to make friends. They don't sound the type to care or maybe they haven't noticed.
Yanbu to be fed up. I would cough loudly next time they lit up and take the opportunity to ask them to move on.

PennyArcade · 02/01/2019 15:13

Yes go ask them to move. Then come back and tell us what they say Hmm

MakeAHouseAHome · 02/01/2019 15:14

Disgusting and inconsiderate as it is, if the resort allows smoking by the pool there isn't much you can do.

Seniorcitizen1 · 02/01/2019 15:19

I would check if smoking allowed. At our hotel in the summer smoking around the pool was not allowed, so when I saw offenders I reported to pool attendent who made them stop/move. There does seem to be a presumption amongst smokers that if it does not say no smoking them they can - if I was in charge of the world the presumption would be smoking only allowed if it says smoking allowed. Unfortunately I am not in charge.

brizzledrizzle · 02/01/2019 15:24

If it's a non-smoking area then YANBU to point this out but otherwise I'm afraid you need to move, irritating though it is.

Banterlope · 02/01/2019 15:25

The only place smokers are allowed to smoke is outside, so they are not breaking any rules (unless the hotel operates a no smoking policy). Must be annoying though.

MLMsuperfan · 02/01/2019 15:25

Smoking near others is highly antisocial. They are at fault - not you.

Jaxhog · 02/01/2019 15:25
  1. Check if smoking allowed. It often isn't.
  2. If it is, get a small battery operated clip on fan and blow the smoke back. It'll probably be irritating enough that THEY move.
  3. Move.

If I was in charge of the world the presumption would be smoking only allowed if it says smoking allowed. Unfortunately I am not in charge.
Sadly, neither am I.

Dollymixture22 · 02/01/2019 15:32

It is quite rude to blow smoke all over non smokers - but unfortunately hey don’t seem very considerate. If there are other sun beds available I think you will have to move.

CloserIAm2Fine · 02/01/2019 15:37

YABU

unless smoking is banned they’re doing nothing wrong. I agree that it’s selfish and antisocial but that’s their choice. So you should move.
