To tell these smokers on the next sunbed to not smoke

Have been relaxing on my sunbed ( on holiday abroad). Couple just arrived. Sat down on next sunbed and have been chain smoking since. Im asthmatic- do I tell them? Or do I move? Why do they think this is ok when all the public health warnings tell them it’s not?

If I were in charge, it would be an offence for smokers not to stop smoking/move away if requested to by someone else. We are collectively still far too tolerant of this disgusting and harmful habit and the sooner it is banned completely in all public places, the better.

But as things stand, if it's not banned in the area, you will have to move.

FuckingYuleLog · 02/01/2019 17:12

If it doesn’t say no smoking and you’re outside then you can smoke. Exceptions in children’s play areas, outside hospitals, in school grounds etc are all clearly signposted.

thebaronetofcockburn · 02/01/2019 17:13

Just move.

AndItStillSaidFourOfTwo · 02/01/2019 17:13

Bluntness, yes, but most of those things are not harmful to health. Somking is. Most of those things don't leave you with a stench on your clothes and hair. Smoking does, if you are in close enough proximity for long enough (and being outside doesn't magically make the smoke ineffective). .

Witchend · 02/01/2019 17:14

Throw water over them then claim you thought they were on fire because no one would be so thoughtless to smoke there.

Bluntness100 · 02/01/2019 17:14

Fortunately you're not in charge, just like it's fortunate im not in charge because I'd make it an offence for people to not move away with their stinky food when I asked, and make it an offence for them to not stop their kids being noisy. Or whatever. So basically it's fortunate that neither of us are in charge and we still live in a free society.

FuckingYuleLog · 02/01/2019 17:16

People driving cars isn’t good for my health. I don’t drive. I don’t feel the need to ask others if they could please not drive either.

DeepanKrispanEven · 02/01/2019 17:18

unless smoking is banned they’re doing nothing wrong. I agree that it’s selfish and antisocial

Isn't being selfish and antisocial wrong, then?

Snowman123 · 02/01/2019 17:30

They're assholes. But I'd move, not worth the hassle.

ConcreteUnderpants · 02/01/2019 19:06

Snowman123: They're assholes. But I'd move, not worth the hassle.

Just because they are smoking?
Geez, what an attitude you have!

masterandmargarita · 02/01/2019 19:11

One day smoking will be banned almost every where. I doubt smelly food and noisy kids will be.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 02/01/2019 22:09

This is why I love Greece. It's practically mandatory there!

Dieu · 02/01/2019 22:23

Selfish bastards. It's them thinking that the world revolves around them.

Is smoking allowed where you are? If so moving is the only option. It's annoying but people do smoke

Cherrysherbet · 02/01/2019 22:41

It’s so disgusting. Selfish bloody smokers.

redredrobins · 02/01/2019 23:02

I used to enjoy going to my local, have a drink and a fag..... now because of selfish non smokers i can't anymore. And the landlord who didn't want a no smoking pub (his privately owned business and premises) has seen his profits decline..... bloody selfish non smokers (who could have just gone to one of the other six pubs in the village.

AGHHHH · 03/01/2019 04:21

because of selfish non smokers

Haha.

There will NEVER be a situation in which a non-smoker could be deemed selfish for simply not smoking. Ridiculous.

His profits declined because majority rules. Fortunately in this case.

OkPedro · 03/01/2019 04:36

aghhh really?
I find it fascinating that people are not bothered about car fumes, fumes from chimneys, businesses and god knows what else in the environment. I don't think anyone should smoke indoors or in a no smoking area but I'm sorry if we are out doors in the fresh air I'm going to smoke. I'm not selfish of inconsiderate. I don't smoke where people are eating. I wouldn't sit beside a child or adult and blow smoke in their face.

AGHHHH · 03/01/2019 05:19

Well, I'm not bothered because I'm not actively aware of it and can't smell it. There are lots of bad things that are just 'there' but unless it becomes obvious people don't tend to notice or care... Can't remember the last time I smelt a chimney. Confused

You don't need to go to the extent of blowing a smoke into a child's face to be inconsiderate (why is it always extreme examples that are given?) but smoking in close proximity to other people is generally antisocial. Doing something that is harmful to someone else, which we know second hand smoke is, can't be anything other than a bad thing.

Legal and considerate are not the same thing.

People can move, sure, they often do, that doesn't mean you're not inconsiderate in the first place does it. If you weren't there smoking in the first place people would have been able to come and enjoy wherever they are without having to plan around the fumes.

LoniceraJaponica · 03/01/2019 06:09

Do you not have a sense of smell AGHHHH?

AGHHHH · 03/01/2019 06:29

Of course I have a sense of smell. Hence hating smoke. What a fucking stupid question.

AGHHHH · 03/01/2019 06:29

Not having a sense of smell because I don't often smell chimneys Hmm

Hundredacrewoods · 03/01/2019 06:42

How infuriating! It's not their absolute right to smoke since it doesn't just affect them, they're inflicting dangerous second hand smoke on everyone around them!

LoniceraJaponica · 03/01/2019 06:45

"Well, I'm not bothered because I'm not actively aware of it and can't smell it"

I thought this ^^ was referring to cigarette smoke AGHHHH. Did you mean to be so rude?

"I find it fascinating that people are not bothered about car fumes, fumes from chimneys, businesses and god knows what else in the environment."

I don't smell these ^^ either. We live in a smokeless zone in a rural area.
