They really don't need to be open today, seems silly that most are open Sunday hours and taking people away from enjoying the day with family

Puggles123 · 01/01/2019 11:56

Why do people assume everyone hates working certain hours?

2019rubberband · 01/01/2019 11:56

The superstores are open 24 hours Monday to Friday. That's quite enough for the people that work full time which is usually 7.5-8 a day

You are presuming people don't have other things going on in their lives. And some people have a massive shit load apart from work and home.

Open your eyes

Rosepetalgeranium · 01/01/2019 11:58

I presuming people have a spare hour during the week to get a food shop in. Im sure even the busiest people do have that.

I said earlier how I used to work the opposite shifts to DH and struggle to get to the supermarket. And that's in Scotland, where 24 hours actually is 24 hours, 7 days a week. So I had more opportunity, but still the constraints of my daily life made it difficult. I had 2 DC back then, on with a disability, an elderly relative to look in on once a day, another elderly relative in a care home who I visited twice a week, not to mention DC1 had 2 weekly activities to attend.

PurpleDaisies · 01/01/2019 11:59

I don’t just need food though.

2019rubberband · 01/01/2019 11:59

I presuming people have a spare hour during the week to get a food shop in

That's your biggest problem, presumption.

fuzzyduck1 · 01/01/2019 12:00

Didn’t everyone have a day off with family a week ago?

No some of us were working all through Christmas keeping things running so the rest of you could have a day off.

I finished work 7am Boxing Day and could have hit the sales but
I refuse to go shopping on Boxing Day or New Year’s Day there is nothing you should need that can’t wait 1day!

halcyondays · 01/01/2019 12:00

Shops have been open on New Yer's Day for donkeys' years.

2019rubberband · 01/01/2019 12:00

You also ignored the post about puckers and drivers not being the only workers involved in getting your food to your house

GerryblewuptheER · 01/01/2019 12:01

Well they may not Have the money now given this new idea completely eradicated the ability of other people in the household being able to arrange work around the family. Now the teenager cabt work weekends and the husband or wife has to be home to look after the kids instead of working three nights a week at the pub and paying for the food out of it

Moominfan · 01/01/2019 12:02

I think your very well intentioned op. Hope you brought a hard hat

ChrisjenAvasarala · 01/01/2019 12:02

@Rosepetalgeranium

Do you really think that there are enough positions in hospitals and other viral services for all the thousands of student who rely on weekend jobs? Honestly?

And then what about families who can afford childcare but need extra money coming in for their basic needs. One partner works weekdays and the other works weekends so they can share the childcare?

You really aren't thinking. And if you are, that's even more worehinf because your thinking isn't producing much of a result.

ChrisjenAvasarala · 01/01/2019 12:02

*worrying

Schuyler · 01/01/2019 12:03

Yep, let’s close the shops on Sundays and half of Saturday. Never mind the students who can only weekends to earn money or people who need the money as their weekday full time job doesn’t give them enough. How about the parents who choose to work weekend shifts to reduce childcare costs?

You are so closed minded.

MaxTeyon · 01/01/2019 12:03

I’m on-call today so will get paid £100 for doing sweet FA. On the off chance the shit hits the fan though I could end up working all day and night.

ChrisjenAvasarala · 01/01/2019 12:04

*cant afford childcare

I'm so annoyed at your idiotic ideas that I can't type!

Rosepetalgeranium · 01/01/2019 12:06

Idiotic ideas that people don't need to shop on New year's Day Confused I think I need to tap out of this. Not somewhere for logic and ideas to help benefit society and famous life.

There's also always the option of having Xmas dinner on another day. It's just a day. No one knows when Jesus was born anyway.

You just do it when you can surely. The work won't end if you eat your turkey on the 23rd because you are working Xmas eve and Xmas day

Rosepetalgeranium · 01/01/2019 12:06

I agree you’re seriously lacking in logic.

Heyha · 01/01/2019 12:08

When I worked in retail New Year's Day was one of the easiest of the lot! Generally just our regular older customers, workers from other stores on their breaks, and a few families taking the kids out for a leg stretch. Staffed almost exclusively by us students who had worked there a fair while as the regular weekday staff quite rightly wanted the day off. Still went out the night before as normal but just made sure would be in a fit state to work the next day.

Boxing Day, however, was atrocious and although I worked every one I hated it and begrudged it for ending my Christmas early (in my head, anyway).

2019rubberband · 01/01/2019 12:08

Idiotic ideas that people don't need to shop on New year's Day **

It's not just new year though, you talked about weekends too?

I think I need to tap out of this.

Yes, you do.

Not somewhere for logic and ideas to help benefit society and famous life.

Erm, have you read some of the shit you posted Confused

JacquesHammer · 01/01/2019 12:08

Just be with family on a different day Confused

There’s no law that states quality family time can only be held on NYD
