To be bloody delighted we have no NYE plans this year!

I really don’t love NYE it always feels like a let down and now, after five years of plans that were all a bit meh it turned out, we are going to be home alone with takeaway or cheeseboard, a bottle of lovely champagne and whichever film or trash tv we choose, maybe a card game...

And I am SO HAPPY about it.

just spoke to a few friends who said “you should at least get out to the local for one or two, it’s NYE!!!” And seemed completely appalled that I would consider champagne in my pjs a good way to see in the new year Grin

Sounds great x

JaiNotJay · 31/12/2018 15:09

I am also looking forward to a cosy evening at home - nice drinks and snacks, TV on and no reason to leave the house for the rest of the year! Wine

Sarcelle · 31/12/2018 15:11

I was brought up in central London, not for from Trafalgar Square. Hated NYE with a passion ever since. If it was due to rain heavily I used to be so happy. It meant all the crowds dispersed quickly rather than hang around shouting Happy Neeeww Year in the early hours.

NYE always seems a sad time. I am fine the following day. Even though I moved away from c. London I still never go out.

I am staying in with DH with champagne and food!

morningconstitutional2017 · 31/12/2018 15:11

Your friends have no right to say that you should go out for a drink or two. Perhaps they're not on the same wavelength, in which case I'd look for new friends who like the same things. I'm sure that a nice quiet time at home is far preferable to going out to a noisy, crowded pub where some folks get a bit 'lairy' and maybe pick a fight.

I'll be at home, feet up in front of the telly with maybe a drink and don't feel that I'm missing out. Happy 2019 to all.

greenpop21 · 31/12/2018 15:15

My plans exactly OP. Had a busy Christmas period and out last night so looking forward to a quiet one. Might even go to bed before 12 . Bliss.

Kirsteninakilt · 31/12/2018 15:16

I'm afraid I'm being boring (but it is what I want!) Am going to have a night in, an early night to be honest and tomorrow go for a run then to cinema. Started dry January Boxing Day so already feeling marvellous and want to start my new year feeling chipper.

At the end of the day, people should do what makes them happy in life including NYE whether that is early night, quiet night in with some nice fizz/wine/snacks or a big knees up.

Wishing all MNs a healthy and happy 2019 with all good things

2019Reasons · 31/12/2018 15:16

I’m with you, OP!

Me, DH & the DC are staying in with a takeaway, Netflix, a bottle of bubbly and some games.

I’ve just put the fire on and I’m getting into my PJs shortly Grin. I’m so excited Grin.

I detest NYE. Even when I was a bright young part animal I found it weirdly unsettling and anxiety-inducing. So nice to not have to bother with it!

LoniceraJaponica · 31/12/2018 15:19

I don't understand why anyone would want to stand in the cold in a huge crowd for several hours in any city centre - Trafalgar Square and Edinburgh spring to mind. Madness.

Lambzig · 31/12/2018 15:21

I am so glad I read this. Thanks OP. We were having friends around tonight and they cancelled at lunchtime. I have been feeling fed up and suspecting they had a better last minute offer and like we are social outcasts. I am now going to embrace that I don’t have to go to the supermarket, can wear pjs and watch tv.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 31/12/2018 15:22

Not been out for NYE for probably last 15 years, since having kids. Doesn’t bother me these days, The thought of going anywhere fills me with dread!

And actually this year I will be feeling funny about saying “Happy New Year” as a close family member has a very serious illness and we really don’t know how 2019 will pan out.

So low key is best for us this year anyway, I think.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 31/12/2018 15:23

We werw going to a snall gathering at a friend's but now we're stopping in.Between us we've been poorly since Xmas eve! I'm forcing myself to drink wine even though I feel a bit meh as I know I'll enjoy it once I'm 2 glasses in lol.We are having cheese board and olives etc to go with

Whatthefoxgoingon · 31/12/2018 15:29

My in-laws are hosting a party, mostly family and a few close friends. The food and drink will be magnificent. Very happy we aren’t hosting this year Grin

Can’t see any point in going out drinking with people we barely know, any time let alone NYE.

Parsley65 · 31/12/2018 15:30

Another party pooper here!

Looking forward to a game of Monopoly with DH & 2 teens. Then a Chinese takeaway and a film or two - and lots of fizz.

Happy New Year to you all x

Loyaultemelie · 31/12/2018 15:33

Marvellousnightforamooncup I almost wish we had visited your ds it's preferable to having to go out tonight (spoken by someone who had severe noro last winter)

PositiveVibez · 31/12/2018 15:35

I could think of absolutely nothing worse than going out on NYE. Hell on earth. I actually can't remember the last time I went out for new year. I think it could have been the millennium 🤣

We are going to our friends house who are absolutely lovely and it is nice and chilled. The kids will play and we will drink wine and eat cheese. Perfect.

Enjoy you're evening OP 🥂

YouTheCat · 31/12/2018 15:44

We're having finger foods and dips (all just stuff that can be shoved in the oven). Then I may wade through the booze and make some cocktails later. We'll watch a film or some tv and chill out.

townandcountrygirl · 31/12/2018 15:47

Really glad I am not the only one.I have never been a fan of NY, not quite sure why. Every time I have tried to go out an do the conventional champagne / friends thing I have found myself wishing I had stayed in!

redandyellowandpinkandgreen99 · 31/12/2018 15:50

YANBU to be happy to stay in obviously.

I would never miss our NYE party at our local pub though. (15 minutes walk from us.) £5 a ticket, and includes a buffet, a disco, and is optional fancy dress. Goes on til 2am. Wouldn't miss it for the world.

Polskieexpat · 31/12/2018 15:53

We've never been out to a party for NYE due to working in restaurants but for the past 3 years we've spent them with my BiL and SiL. We watch te fireworks all around us and drink champagne (sparkling wine) at midnight but this year I'll be on sparkling grape juice (preggers) with my SiL (breastfeeding) after having chicken curry and trifle and playing a very competitive game of monopoly. Pure bliss in my opinion!

GnomeDePlume · 31/12/2018 15:58

We are staying in. Hot roast beef sandwiches, some excellent wine and not too late to bed. Tomorrow we take down the Christmas decorations and get ready to go back to work.

dementedma · 31/12/2018 15:59

hate new year so will be in bed with a good book and a cup of tea by 10pm. Probably be woken up by sodding fireworks at midnight, but otherwise it should be over fairly painlessly.

ForalltheSaints · 31/12/2018 16:03

Sounds lovely and even more so OP that you are happy about it.

PinkHeart5914 · 31/12/2018 16:07

It’s never boring if you’ve got champagne imo

We are staying in with champagne and take away too!

JustDanceAddict · 31/12/2018 16:12

We always go to the same friends. Usually just us and them and it’s fun and relaxed. I wouldn’t want to be on our own particularly but if we had to be, I’d get nice food etc in.
We actually had another invite which I declined a couple of weeks ago which would’ve been more people but ones we don’t know as well and I just like NYE with good friends we can be ourselves with.

DeRigueurMortis · 31/12/2018 16:14

Likewise - we've turned down a few party invitations in favour of a night at home.

Oh the relief!!!

We've bought in some lovely food (think nice deli items so I don't have to cook but have lots of lovely things to eat) and I bought a brilliant posh cocktail kit online so we can make espresso martinis (not big fans of bubbly in this house) on the pretext excuse that the caféine will keep us awake whilst counting down to midnight with Jools Holland GrinGrinGrin and nothing at all to do with the fact that espresso martinis taste amazing!!!

I've got my ice all ready and am looking forward to a bit of moving and shaking in the kitchen later GrinGrinGrin
