Whenever I look online for clothes I always use the filter option to select my size which is a 20. Why do the majority of clothes then pop up for maternity wear!! Not every size 20 woman is pregnant... may be they should have 2 options when selecting larger sizes such as 20 (pregnant) or 20(just fat) grrrrrr

I do wonder why they don't offer much more choice? Surely this is a growing market. I used to be a size 18 and lost 5 stone and the main reason was because I could not get decent clothes. Once you are over a size 14 you can forget it with a load of shops! I know things are improving but I completely understand where you are coming from!

Biscusting · 30/12/2018 22:37

That is weird! How do you know when you’ve reached a size 20 when you are pregnant? Surely there is a maternity section and just normal sizing for everyday clothes?
I can’t imagine having a ‘just fat’ drop down menu would go down too well though OP Grin

Deyes999 · 30/12/2018 22:37

Thankyou diamond it is just frustrating..I have dropped from from a size 22 so going the right way but I still need clothes in the meantime..it is v annoying. Well done on your weight loss

Is that true? Im a standard size 10 but I buy a lot of clothes online. I am often surprised to see certain items like mini skirts going up to a size 24.

XiCi · 30/12/2018 22:41

Is this on ASOS? Because I'm a size 10 and all the maternity clothes pop up if you just filter to size, I think this happens for every size. You have to go in and filter out the maternity wear

Deyes999 · 30/12/2018 22:41

Yes Phoebe's gift I also find that strange as if a size 24 would want to wear a mini skirt. Maybe some might but I would think the majority wouldn't which is why things like that end up in the sale

It was on new look, debenhams and asda but happens regularly

TheDropBear · 30/12/2018 22:44

It's not a size thing, it's just showing all the clothes. You can filter it out on lots of sites. On asos it's under range and then has options of main collection, maternity, petite, plus size and tall. Not sure about other sites.

Elephantina · 30/12/2018 22:48

According to most clothing retailers, being a size 18-20 also makes me 7 feet tall, with a very deep crutch apparently.

Size 16 is too tight in the arse/waist, 18 fits the hips and thighs but gapes on the waist, the crutch is 4 inches too low and trousers are 8 inches too long. It's bizarre, I've totally given up on bloody trousers.

Apart from tapered trousers from Yours, luckily they're awesome.

RavenLG · 30/12/2018 22:50

I get that too. Absolutely does my head in as I'm often glancing, see a nice dress and then realise it's sodding maternity! I'm not pregnant, just a fat sod.

TheTroublesomestTribble · 30/12/2018 22:56

Do you think society as a whole benefits from plus size clothing being normalised?

Redcliff · 30/12/2018 22:56

Maternity clothes pop up whatever size you put in - it drives me nuts. Surely if you need maternity clothes you would put that as a search term.

CrunchyNutcase · 30/12/2018 23:04

Do you think society as a whole benefits from plus size clothing being normalised?

More than society would benefit from seeing me naked, yes. Even we larger ladies have to find clothes somewhere...

whynotgetalong · 30/12/2018 23:04

Have you noticed that especially with ASDA, find an item you like, click on it, size 18 and above is ALWAYS 'sold out'. Either they never actually had it in stock or size 18 and above is pretty bloody popular so why not keep those sizes in stock?

And what is with trousers/jeans these days? As pp said, either the waist is too large and the hips too tight or the legs are so bloody 'skinny' I can barely squeeze in and out of them.

WinnieFosterTether · 30/12/2018 23:04

Does it matter if it's maternity? I still sometimes wear maternity clothes I bought when I was pregnant with DS. No-one knows they're maternity clothes except me . . . and now MN.

Pretenditsaplan · 30/12/2018 23:06

Try 'yours' or 'scarlett and jo' theyre made for larger ladies most of my wardrobe is from there

Stardustinmyeyes · 30/12/2018 23:06

CrunchyNutcase.
So you must think that plus size people are not normal
Strange attitude

pineapplebryanbrown · 30/12/2018 23:07

Elephantina Yes! I stopped growing upwards when I was 13, now matter how fat I get the height is unlikely to change!

bridgetreilly · 30/12/2018 23:07

I have never had that happen whatever size I happen to be searching for (usually 18-20-22 ish). Weird.

BollocksToBrexit · 30/12/2018 23:07

Don't knock it, I often by maternity clothes because they feel more comfortable. They're often fitted under the bust, which is my slimest point and then flare out to cover the lumps and bumps. When I was actually pregnant I wore my usual clothes throughout.

*in my defense, I have autism and cannot cope with tight things around my waist.

singleascheeseslice · 30/12/2018 23:08

I am a 16-20 (top heavy) and buy maternity clothes occasionally if I like the style, sadly, they usually fit ok - that extra room for boobs and tum. Blush

Armi · 30/12/2018 23:09

Love the snooty comment about ‘normalising’ plus size clothing. I’m fat, so it’s bloody normal for me and I want some decent outfits. Or does being fat mean I am less than human and should shuffle about in polyester shit from Evans as punishment?

Cherries101 · 30/12/2018 23:09

ASOS target the type of size 24s I used to be when I was 16— pear shaped teenagers, with smooth, shapely and toned bodies and legs. That’s why they sell shorts and skirts in that size.

CrunchyNutcase · 30/12/2018 23:09

@Stardustinmyeyes Of course I think that plus size people are normal - why wouldn’t I? I am one! Was responding to TheTroublesomeTribble’s post.

TheVoiceOfRaisin · 30/12/2018 23:10

Is maternity wear cut differently? (I'm a man). If it's just indicating that the garment accommodates a larger belly then what difference does it make if it's worn by a fat or pregnant woman?
