Whenever I look online for clothes I always use the filter option to select my size which is a 20. Why do the majority of clothes then pop up for maternity wear!! Not every size 20 woman is pregnant... may be they should have 2 options when selecting larger sizes such as 20 (pregnant) or 20(just fat) grrrrrr

Obviously all fat people should stay at home naked with the curtains closed and only be allowed to eat gruel. Once they have starved down to an acceptable size they can then rejoin society and have clothes...

UrsulaPandress · 27/05/2019 08:50

Hilarious

This is an old thread. I didn't realise until I was feeling quietly outraged and then came across a post of mine which had been deleted. No idea what I said but it was clearly quite harsh 😂

PantsyMcPantsface · 27/05/2019 08:50

Zombie goady thread but yes Yours are great - just wish they'd ditch the cold shoulder top obsession. I don't find much I like in Simply Be, Evans went off the boil years ago (Evans was never ON the boil to be fair - I once bought a pair of jeans from them where one leg shrunk in the wash - never did figure out how the hell that had happened), ASOS is very variable - but at least we have choice now at an affordable level.

For those wanting a return to the days of one shop of plus size polyester paradise - what that actually meant for me was that I could rarely afford clothes and wore stuff that didn't fit properly that I'd squeezed into as it was all I could afford, and wore things until they had holes in that I then mended until they were just a collection of holes held together with thread and hope. I don't want a return to that - I just want somewhere I can buy a few outfits for work a year that look decently professional and last more than a month. I wouldn't wear a mini skirt because my legs have never been a great feature - but there are other women who have fantastic legs and carry all their weight differently to me - I have a very good waist for someone my size and I dress to my strengths (and I hear the waist issues someone else has mentioned - I have to do some tailoring work to get trousers to fit well)

Basically we fatties need to wear clothing at some point in time - sorry but it's the truth. I assume you'd rather see me covered with swathes of fabric rather than out wobbling around naked.

feelingverylazytoday · 27/05/2019 08:51

It's market forces, obviously. Manufacturers make clothes in the sizes that they think people will buy them.
I've lost weight now, but was a size 20 a few years back. I used to buy clothes from Sainsbury (Tu) and Peacocks, they were about the only shops I found that made the same styles (ie nice) from small to plus size. I don't know if things have improved now.

DistanceCall · 27/05/2019 08:55

Just out of curiosity: why do you mind wearing clothes classified as "maternity" clothes? After all, clothes are clothes. And women can be large because they are fat or because they are pregnant (or for other reasons, e.g. because of medical reasons). Why should two different categories be established?

@DistanceCall the fit is totally different. I was an 18 when i was pregnanty with DS. The 18 maternity had stretchy waists designed to enhance my bump. Tops were tailored to emphasise my bump. Lots of side runching to hug the bump.
If i wore 18 maternity now they would be too big because they're aimed at someone who's an 18 with an extra bump out front.
I now want clothes that flatter my shape, that emphasise my waist say or skim over my fat bits. Standard clothes that flatten it all down not comfort panels designed to be soft on my tummy and cradle it

MotherofDinosaurs · 27/05/2019 09:41

I'm fat. And fortunately quite beautiful. I dress fabulously and am complimented on my clothes by other women maybe an average of once a week.
I deeply pity any poster who thinks fat people shouldn't have access to nice clothes. Fuck off with your 'normalising fat people is a bad thing.' fat people are normal. And we can be charismatic and clever and talented.

MotherofDinosaurs · 27/05/2019 09:44

By the way, for anyone who is hard of thinking, the main difference between a fat woman and a pregnant woman is that a pregnant woman only has a big belly, whereas we fatties have plumptious arses, arms and boobs as well. HTH.

SerenDippitty · 27/05/2019 09:54

I’ve got a feeling I may have bought a maternity dress by mistake once. Back in the 80s when I was in my 20s, when I was a very slim size 8, probably a 6 by today’s sizing, from a shop called Hamells - anyone remember that shop? It was pale blue with a drop waist and pleated skirt. I wore it loads and thought I looked the bees knees in it. But looking back I have a feeling it was a maternity dress.

hellooosweetheart · 27/05/2019 10:43

😂this thread made me 😂 not making fun of you op, I just find it funny that maternity wear is not separated from normal wear

Handbag101 · 27/05/2019 10:52

Clothes sizes are ridiculous though. I'm anywhere between a UK 4 and 8 but just bought bikinis in Tesco that fit perfectly that are a size 18!!

DistanceCall · 27/05/2019 11:43

@SleepingStandingUp The fit in ready-made clothes is generally crap too.

@MotherofDinosaurs for anyone who is hard of thinking... a pregnant woman only has a big belly, whereas we fatties have plumptious arses, arms and boobs as well.

I'm not "hard of thinking". Most pregnant women also get "plumptious arses, arms and boobs". Pregnant women regularly go up several bra sizes. No need to be insulting.

SleepingStandingUp · 27/05/2019 11:50

@DistanceCall potentially yes but the fit is still different. So I don't go out and buy a size 16 maternity instead of a size 18 for the same reason someone doesn't but size 12 maternity instead of size 14 or size 8 maternity instead of size 10

Also in the issue of maternity often looking like maternity clothes and people being. Nosey, perhaps I don't want people constantly asking if I'm pregnant as I'm in maternity clothes emphasising my stomach when I'm ttc or infertile or have six and thst plenty etc

kshaw · 27/05/2019 11:52

This annoyed me when pregnant too that I filtered by maternity and brought up plus size. Totally different body shapes!

Yabbers · 27/05/2019 13:02

Also, short people can be fat too. When I go for the “petite” clothes that have shorter lengths, the sizes beyond 16 tend to disappear.

Lwmommy · 27/05/2019 13:46

I love that the poster who's too small for size 6 clothes makes negative comments about the health of plus size. It's no more healthy to be under weight than to be overweight.

Yours clothing has some really nice stuff now, I have 2 pairs of these which are super comfy and fall to just below my knees which is great because I have good toned calves. I have the bright floral and the black with white circular design

www.yoursclothing.co.uk/black-tropical-floral-harem-trousers-p

For some reason The plain black ones are a bit shiny and weird but the patterned are great, I got loads of compliments in the floral ones.

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 27/05/2019 13:56

Has anyone posted foaming at the mouth about vanity sizing yet?

NotACleverName · 27/05/2019 14:00

I absolutely don't think 'fat shops where fat people can shop should be the norm.

I mean this will all the pleasantry you deserve, @MissusGrinch2018 (which is none, for the record)... get fucked. We fatties need to wear clothing as well. Why should we hide away as though we're something shameful?

NotACleverName · 27/05/2019 14:01

Damn it, zombie. My point still stands, though.

Cherrysoup · 27/05/2019 14:17

Has anyone posted foaming at the mouth about vanity sizing yet?

No, but we can if you like! Next are notorious for this, gives you a good boost if you’re on a diet! 😂

Didiplanthis · 27/05/2019 14:18

I'm plus size 20 and have started c25k. I will be more comfortable and stick at it if I have proper clothes however getting high vis running stuff is impossible. Clearly I should a) not be running b) am quite visible enough thank you or c) could do with being flatter...

WorraLiberty · 27/05/2019 14:31

Am I the only one puzzled by Frittata bumping a 5 month old thread without adding a comment of their own? Confused

Boysey45 · 27/05/2019 14:32

@Didiplanthis. You need to look at Decathlon, I have a high viz t shirt for running and it was £2.99 from there. They go upto a womans size 24 and mens xxxl.I'd be very surprized if you couldn't sort yourself out from there.

For plus size womens clothes I would Next and Asos are good.

Stopyourhavering64 · 27/05/2019 15:15

80sMum my dd is 25yrs Old size 10 U.K. and 5ft10 and is living in China...she finds it near impossible to buy clothes to fit and has had to resort to buying men's trousers and shirts and trainers...only when she goes to Shanghai can she find a very reduced amount of clothes to wear!
