Whenever I look online for clothes I always use the filter option to select my size which is a 20. Why do the majority of clothes then pop up for maternity wear!! Not every size 20 woman is pregnant... may be they should have 2 options when selecting larger sizes such as 20 (pregnant) or 20(just fat) grrrrrr

Yeah you're just not filtering properly. I love the maternity jeggings from Yours, trousers are not comfortable when you have a belly unless they sit underneath the tum the way maternity trousers do then have a panel to cover and support the belly. Well maybe that's just me after abdominal surgery and a c section but anyone in my position will know what it's like to avoid trousers because of horrible fit.

MissusGrinch2018 · 30/12/2018 23:20

I'm going to offend a lot of people (because the UK has a lot of obese people) but I think it's high time we stop pussy footing around 'you can never say anything negative about fat people camp}

I absolutely don't think 'fat shops where fat people can shop should be the norm. The same I don't think cigarette sellers or vape sellers should be the morm. I DO think the likes of McDonalds, Pizza express etc should be the norm as many of us don't gorge on food and become obese. This won't be a popular view but come on, we have to be realistic.

Elephantina · 30/12/2018 23:21

Dunno if it's cut differently raisin as I've never been pregnant, but I might give some maternity wear a try! I always envisaged there being rather a lot of spare fabric...

As for the marginally goady, philosophical bitch plop about normalising plus sized clothes, I think society as a whole would benefit more if fat people were simply hidden from public view in vast camps, like cattle, and made to wear lurid Evans polyester smocks and consume only bread and water until they can fit into a top shop size 10. Good plan, I'll write to my MP, after I've eaten these 3 chocolate cakes.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 30/12/2018 23:25

I’m not plus size, but unless I specifically filter out maternity (or petite, or tall) I get maternity wear too. If you search by item (eg, striped dress, black polo neck) or size you will be shown all options of that garment type from every range on most websites.

TheVoiceOfRaisin · 30/12/2018 23:26

Lol, I can just imagine vast fattle farms off the m25. Grin

I've lost a good few stone since my mid 20s and have a fairly athletic figure now but I'm never comfier than when I'm lounging around the house in my fat man jogging bottoms. My gf won't let me out the house in them though. 🤨

ThatPeskyElf · 30/12/2018 23:27

Oh jog on
Fat people have rights too- including the right to have nice clothes.
It’s ok, it’s not contagious unless you too eat 20 pizzas and guzzle 35 litres of fat coke for every meal. That’s why we’re fat right??

Elephantina · 30/12/2018 23:27

MissusGrinch nobody thinks you can't say anything negative. We know we're fat, we're not in denial. But don't we have a right to wear decent, well fitting clothes in the meantime?

This is not a debate about whether someone is immobilised by being 600lbs overweight, we're talking about slighyly larger than average people trying to find clothes that fit well. Same as someone with an extraordinarily large bust, for example.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 30/12/2018 23:29

fat shops where fat people can shop should be the norm

What are you talking about?

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 30/12/2018 23:30

Try being a size 30+! Things come up in inches, so I end up with 28-30 inch waist or chest Confused Grin
There is a knack to the "Google-fu" you just have to be creative with the search terms...

TheVoiceOfRaisin · 30/12/2018 23:36

Out of curiosity, what is considered the threshold for being 'plump size'? Or does it differ between retailer?

MadameJosephine · 30/12/2018 23:40

elephantina do you mind asking which trousers you’ve got from yours? I searched tapered trousers and it brought up a few

Would you recommend anything in particular from yours pretenditsaplan?

I got £100 of yours vouchers for Christmas but couldn’t find anything nice in the shop local to me but it’s quite small so was going to order something online instead

whywhywhywhywhyyy · 30/12/2018 23:40

If you don't want fat people to be able to buy clothes that fit, what do you want the fat people to wear then? Nothing? Hmm

singleascheeseslice · 30/12/2018 23:42

i think over a size 16 is plus size here in the UK.

InAPreviousLife · 30/12/2018 23:43

I absolutely don't think 'fat shops where fat people can shop should be the norm

Not sure if you're a knuckle dragger or just hard of thinking.

Presumably you want said fat people to earn a living and contribute to society? That means they need suitable clothing...so a "fat" person being able to walk into a shop and buy a top or pair of trousers should be as normal as a "normal" person being able to do the same.

The high street is on its arse...maybe if more shops catered for women who have to guess if a size 20 top online will actually accommodate their breasts without making them look like they're wearing a tent then the high street might be in healthier shape.

As to the original issue. I've never noticed that maternity clothing comes up when I shop online...but to be honest if the cut looked OK I'd buy something irrespective of the intent of the designer.

Life is a lot more fun and a lot less stressful when you wear what you want and stop worrying about whether you’re too fat to wear it. I’m not sure where my size is placed on the surprised-they-wear-miniskirts scale, but I own a lot of them. After spending my entire teens (as a size 10) too self-conscious to bare my legs, I now don’t give a fuck if my thighs upset someone.

Klobluchar · 30/12/2018 23:50

One day there will be a thread on plus size clothing without some arsehole coming along talking about “normalising obesity” etc but that day ain’t coming any time soon. Just give them a round of applause for being thin and move on.

Eviecee · 30/12/2018 23:50

Imagine that...a size 24 woman in a miniskirt Shock

LoniceraJaponica · 30/12/2018 23:52

"Is maternity wear cut differently?"

Yes it is. When I was pregnant I didn't want to spend a lot on maternity clothes, and started buying larger sizes of jogging bottoms and leggings. The problem is that only my waist was larger. My legs and hips weren't, so they didn't fit very well. Same with tops. A size 16 top would go over my bump, but I didn't have size 16 boobs.

They don’t want us to buy clothes, they want us to stay indoors and only come out when we’re thin and therefore worthy of being considered human.

BeanTownNancy · 31/12/2018 00:06

Aaaah, I'm actually relieved to be pregnant. I've been blessed cursed with massive boobs and a huge arse and thighs my entire life (seriously my first bra at age 12 was a 34DD and I wasn't fat then). Working out just makes my arse and thighs bigger and nothing shrinks the boobies. But I've always had a smaller waist, so it's refreshing to just be able to buy fat lady clothes and have them not be saggy in the middle. I still don't want pregnancy clothes though, because those won't fit right. Hmm

Kummerspeck · 31/12/2018 00:07

It's pathetic that some women have to assert their superiority by making fat-shaming comments at strangers online
It is hard enough to find good plus size clothes without having to see disparaging comments on any threads discussing it.

Biscuit Biscuit Biscuit for those posters and I hope they make you fat too Grin

SheilaHammond · 31/12/2018 00:16

Lots of bigger women look good in a mini skirt. I’m a size 18/20 because of no waist and big stomach. Slim legs though. Mid thigh skirt, thick tights, boots, long shirt on top with a long line jumper.... comfy and looks ok.

Lalliella · 31/12/2018 00:21

Phoebesgift

Is that true? Im a standard size 10 but I buy a lot of clothes online. I am often surprised to see certain items like mini skirts going up to a size 24.

Heaven forbid that a fatty should wear a mini-skirt, what is the world coming to? Should we just pop down to Go Outdoors and get ourselves a nice tent?
