To want a Dyson Airwrap

My hair is hideously straight. Poker straight. Not-in-a-good-way straight. Just sodding straight.

I have, over the years, spent much money on heated rollers. I've tried blow-drying with a big metal brush. I've tried every effing thing to get a bit of bounce into my stupid straight hair. My current curling device is Remington straighteners - it's fine for about 25 minutes (so long as there isn't a scrap of moisture in the air) but my hair is snapping off at the ends. It's long - or was, until it started snapping off. FML.

I covet the Dyson Airwrap. I could afford it if I gave up eating for several months, and cut back on several other things. But is it worth it?

The Airwrap Complete has come back into stock on QVC and I may have panicked and ordered one Blush

I have no qualms about returning stuff though so if it's not absolutely amazing it's going back!

MrsChollySawcutt · 03/01/2019 12:07

I may also have accidentally bought one...

ElizabethMainwaring · 03/01/2019 13:16

Same here! Thanks for letting me know that it's back in stock! QVC is brilliant for things like this. I'm so excited!

LadyHooHa · 03/01/2019 13:41

I have never looked at anything on QVC, but I will be doing now.. Thank you, amused!

I bought one in early November.

I absolutely love it. I spent the extra £50 and got the full set as I thought dd would the attachment for thicker hair.

I have thin fine flyaway hair that no matter what I've tried I've never been able to curl it with a wand or electric rollers.

It's a lot of money but if you go through boots you'll get a lot of points, check cash back websites as sometimes places like Currys have great cash back deals then there's also QVC where you can pay in four instalments and return if you don't like it.

I've watched so many tutorials and reviews and it did take me a while to find products that work but I've pretty much nailed it now, I wash it, have a cuppa and a potter by which time hair needs a quick blow with the rough dry and then another ten mins to curl it straighten with brush and I'm done. I've had curly hair more times in the last few months than in my whole life.

I use the brush for volume and shape a lot and love it too. It's like ghd straight but with way more volume.

Some department stores have demos where you can try. It's one of those things where people seem to find it amazing or me.

It's a lot of money and I paid £450 for the set but my Parliament hairdryer (£150), ghd wand, £90, ghd straighteners £150 come to not much less and this does the same if not better job than all of those.

My dd hates it though and prefers round brush and dryer although she doesn't do her own hair, mugging here does it 😂

Bugger.

I've bought one on easy pay with QVC

IcedPurple · 03/01/2019 15:54

I read your post and nodded at every line. I too have super-fine hair which won't hold a curl no matter what I do, and like you I have a drawer full of styling implements which I thought were going to finally be The One... but all of them have disappointed.

I tried the Dyson in a shop before Xmas - even at over £400 a pop they were completely sold-out! - and while it did make lovely vintage-style curls, my questions are a) would I be able to achieve the same effect myself and b) would the curls hold? In my experience, getting curls into the hair isn't a problem. Getting them to stay longer than approximately 5 minutes is, no matter how much product I put in.

If only you could do a trial period and use it at home for a few weeks before splashing out so much cash....

missfliss · 03/01/2019 15:56

iced you can if you order via QVC or Dyson direct. You can return for a full refund within 30 days if the device isn't for you

IcedPurple · 03/01/2019 16:01

@missfliss

Interesting! Will they take it back if it's not faulty and you simply don't get on with it?

missfliss · 03/01/2019 16:34

Yes - as long as in good condition with original packaging / instructions etc they will .

Easy pay on QVC enables you to pay in 5 instalments too ( interest free)

amusedbush · 03/01/2019 17:52

You can also return it to Boots within 35 days. I returned my first Dyson hairdryer because I wasn't getting on with it and they didn't ask any questions, just inspected to make sure it was in immaculate condition and then did the refund.

amusedbush · 03/01/2019 17:53

Sorry folks, it sounds like we're all going to be skint... but at least we'll all look great Grin

U2HasTheEdge · 03/01/2019 21:21

Oh no. Now I am really tempted. Would like to have done it over 5 payments, not 4.

Think I am going to have to wait for a while :(

ElizabethMainwaring · 04/01/2019 07:46

I've never seen QVC do more than four easy pays. I thought four was the maximum.

missfliss · 04/01/2019 08:29

elizabethmainwairing

Sorry was my typo- you are correct that it is 4 instalments

Luckystar1 · 04/01/2019 08:34

Well the instant I saw someone say yesterday that it was online at QVC, I went and bought it Blush. I’m expecting to look like a model soon...?

I have very thick hair that I just cannot style myself as it takes so long!

amusedbush · 04/01/2019 10:20

Luckystar1

Sorry Grin

I'm an enabler!

Truckingonandon · 04/01/2019 10:34

I just put one in my basket on QVC, then thought I'd read the reviews, which were so mixed and lots of negative ones, so I changed my mind and bought the Revlon one instead 😑 I don't think I'll be satisfied though until I've tried one!

Ethel80 · 04/01/2019 10:42

Thanks to this thread I've been watching videos on YouTube and now I really want one. I actually squealed when I saw it working.

I'm going to go to John Lewis to have a go myself and then hope I have a windfall as I really can't afford one.

missfliss · 04/01/2019 10:44

I have the hairdryer which is why I'm giving this a punt - but fully prepared to send back of its not amazing.

Reasons I love the hairdryer are twofold

  1. speed - it dries my heavy and wavy hair beautifully fast - half the time of my parlux hairdryer

  2. no heat damage to my bleached hair

However - I'm growing my hair longer, after getting my hair fully (and damage-free) dry with the dyson - I am then running straighteners through it which achieves a nice result but is absolutely frying my hair.

Riotingbananas · 04/01/2019 10:52

I've got a Babyliss sheer volume and I love it. It's great for creating a tousled look or ringlet type curls. I find the best way to do it is to let the hair twirl off the top of the Babyliss and keep twirling (as if you were winding it round your finger). Then once it's all twirled off the curler and is still all twirled up, I leave it and go on to the next section. Once its all done (only takes a few mins) a quick spray of Shebangabang wax and a bit of shaking if you want a tousled look, then its all done.

No idea if the above makes any sense Grin but it really does work on my fine, fairly straight hair.

apairofblueeyes100 · 04/01/2019 10:56

I'm tempted too despite being the owner of a Dyson hairdryer.

BTW if I do decide to get one I might purchase via a 0% interest credit card and break up the monthly repayments that way to pay it over 6 months. This would make it more affordable than the QVC easy pay plan.

Stopwoofing · 04/01/2019 12:17

i watched the youtube with a woman with fine, dyed straight hair like mine and she loved it, i'm convinced i'm waiting for restock. She doesn't dry it first she curls it straight off as it dries enough like that.

On dyson you can spread the cost...it is a ridiculous cost for a hair tool.

amusedbush · 04/01/2019 13:10

Stopwoofing

Yeah, it's not a curling tong, it's a curling... dryer... thing Grin

It has to be used on damp hair and it sets the curls by drying the hair that way. I love the look of my curls when I use my GHD wand but my god, my hair feels like shit when I use it. It's like pubes thanks to all the heat damage Blush

Imalittleelf · 04/01/2019 13:21

Have you tried going to a really good salon and getting a proper haircut (no offence but I can't see a £14 Groupon deal being good) also I found having the same stylist who got to know my hair much better.

I have poker straight hair, doesn't hold any style. However since going to a proper hair dresser and paying £50 for a senior stylist who likes dealing with volune my hair has volume and straight and easy to dry and style.

Might be worth trying first?

I would love A dyson.... dh is not convinced at all
