To want a Dyson Airwrap

My hair is hideously straight. Poker straight. Not-in-a-good-way straight. Just sodding straight.

I have, over the years, spent much money on heated rollers. I've tried blow-drying with a big metal brush. I've tried every effing thing to get a bit of bounce into my stupid straight hair. My current curling device is Remington straighteners - it's fine for about 25 minutes (so long as there isn't a scrap of moisture in the air) but my hair is snapping off at the ends. It's long - or was, until it started snapping off. FML.

I covet the Dyson Airwrap. I could afford it if I gave up eating for several months, and cut back on several other things. But is it worth it?

Has anypne tried and perfected using the Tyme Curler/straightener?

Reading with interest as I have fine but thick straight hair that doesn't hold curls.
Still none the wiser about what I should try. The CocoLoco is tempting at £20 but I do like GHD products Hmm

I love the sounds of this... but at £400 I just can't afford it now. Maybe in a few months time if I paid off all of my cc bills by then...

Has anyone tried it from QVC or Dyson and successfully been able to return it? I wouldn't mind trying it but don't want to have to battle for months to send it back if I don't like it.

Accidentally ordered one too Xmas Blush

I was looking at the Tyme thing, but a lot of reviews said it was too hot and burnt their hair.

Accidentally ordered one too. My hair is pretty fried from straightening and I'm hoping this cuts out the crispy feeling I get from curling with straighteners.

You'll all love it! Honest my hair feels so much better since using it and I curl it and it drops a bit by the end of day but not much. I actually look put together!

Okay, I took your advice and used a voucher I’ve been saving to book a last minute appointment with a senior stylist at swanky salon (she normally costs £60 for a cut and blow dry Shock) and my hair looks great! So much thicker and smoother, and a much nicer shape than my usual ‘whichever stylist is cheapest’ Blush

@amusedbush

I'm glad you had a successful appointment!! It's amazing what paying more money can get you (my dh has heart failure when he knows I pay £50 for mine)

If you can stick with the same stylist if you like it then it does help. I have a short bob style with layers and get mine cut every 8 weeks. I also use treseme boost spray before drying on my roots if I am going out for the day as it helps keep the volume.

If you don't like anything with your cut don't be afraid to tell them. Don't forget it's your hair and you are paying them for the service.

@Imalittleelf

I’m painstakingly growing my hair so I would be happy to stick with her as I only get my hair cut every 12-15 weeks or so. That price isn’t too scary a few times a year Grin

I got the volumising/curl airwrap for Christmas. It definitely does give more volume to my hair and it stops it being a bit frizzy too. I'm not great with a conventional hairdryer in one hand and brush in the other so my hair looked a bit straggly as I couldn't be bothered with the hassle nor did I want to use straighteners daily.

If I were to buy one via QVC and the 'four payments' deal, does anyone know whether would I still be able to return it if it didn't work for me? I haven't done this kind of thing before...

lady yes you can take advantage of the easy pay option and still return within 30 days, you just pay for the postage both ways. If you do return the item, ensure you get proof of postage or send recorded.

Thanks, Queenie - much appreciated!

I've got one.

What I love:

  • it's soooo fast at doing my hair, and this is really the clincher - I'm so time poor that most of the time I just didn't bother before.

  • Leaves my hair looking smoother and in better condition

-lots of volume

  • quiet!

  • no tangles or pulling, personally

  • really easy to use

  • hairdryer comes with it which is almost as good as the Dyson standalone one

What I don't love:

  • Having to switch attachments to do curls different directions is slightly irritating

  • curls do drop a lot, but then I don't tend to use the cool shot and don't want tight curls anyway

  • the curls are v glamorous. Not a problem for many but if you want more of a surfer / messy look you can get with straighteners eg not curling the ends it's quite a different aesthetic

  • price, obvs

Anything that actually gets me to do my hair is a winner really so for that alone I'd say it's a good investment.

QVC's returns policy, and customer service in general, is second to none.
You can use and return anything within 30 days (longer at Christmas). No questions asked. This includes perfume, cosmetics, shoes, earrings, large domestic appliances. Everything. At present the p&p is free on the Airwrap, but you'd have to pay p&p to return. I've been a customer for 20 years plus, and I cannot fault them.

Do you have to pay the first instalment straight away or do you pay it a month after you receive it?

Report
BifsWif · 05/01/2019 12:02

You pay the first instalment straight away.

is the hairdryer section on the Wrap really that good? I could consider ebaying the dryer and buying the wrap I suppose!!

LaurieFairyCake · 05/01/2019 12:58

The hairdryer is just a bit smaller head wise - I dry my hair in under 4 minutes with it - I think it's amazing

Grace212 · 05/01/2019 13:16

thanks Laurie.

am considering this now...and blaming OP Grin

It's ok, Grace212. I can shoulder the blame. In fact, I think it's really all the fault of amusedbush and anyone else who has mentioned QVC and monthly repayments. Grin Currently trying to pluck up the courage.

I had a word with myself and I'm not going to! I got the Dyson in the first place - despite being tighter than a gnat's arse - because it enabled me to get out of the door quicker for work - wash hair daily, go running etc and the Dyson saved me time every day.

so realistically I am not going to start making fancy hair dos for myself. Just got carried away for a moment there!

BifsWif · 05/01/2019 20:42

I did the same yesterday Grace. Had a strict word with myself and realised I didn’t need it.

And then ordered it Xmas Blush

I love your post, BifsWif. I am currently trying to talk myself out of it.
