To want a Dyson Airwrap

My hair is hideously straight. Poker straight. Not-in-a-good-way straight. Just sodding straight.

I have, over the years, spent much money on heated rollers. I've tried blow-drying with a big metal brush. I've tried every effing thing to get a bit of bounce into my stupid straight hair. My current curling device is Remington straighteners - it's fine for about 25 minutes (so long as there isn't a scrap of moisture in the air) but my hair is snapping off at the ends. It's long - or was, until it started snapping off. FML.

I covet the Dyson Airwrap. I could afford it if I gave up eating for several months, and cut back on several other things. But is it worth it?

DH bought me the Dyson hairdryer last year and I made him take it back for a refund......I didn’t even take it out the box. The sales assistant thought I was mad but I said I couldn’t justify him spending that much. Anyway, the hair wrap I got chatting to a Dyson rep in John Lewis and asked if this could be used as a hair dryer as well and she said no. Now I’m confused as I’ve seen people say they dried their hair with it as well as curling?! I asked if it’s ok to use a heat protector spray on my hair with it and she said ‘it doesn’t heat up enough to warrant a protector spray, only heats to 125 degrees’ to which I thought that’s flippin hot enough to damage hair!! Also then thought well if she’s saying it’s not hot enough then surely won’t the curls fall out easily?
My hair is super curly but also super frizzy!! I never wear my hair curly as I can’t get rid of the frizz. When I have it blow dried at the hairdressers within half hour of leaving the curl has dropped and hair has frizzed. I hate my hair so much!! 😔

I got the Revlon one step for Christmas & I love it, my hair had volume and looked good for once. It’s fine but I have lots & lots of hair takes forever to dry, I’m determined to have good hair next year for work as I finally found a dye I can use. Was bargain for £40 from Boots, I think you can curl with it but not sure how.

Minimouse- one of the (many) airwrap YouTube things I've watched this week showed the woman hairspraying her curls and allowing them to "set" before loosening them off. I've done this and it really helps to maintain the curl.

My hair is super straight and doesn’t hold a curl. Spent years trying to curl it/ do bouncy blow dries that dropped within an hour of leaving the salon. I have given up and have learnt to embrace the straight. Got a mid length, blunt cut. Style my hair super sleek. So won’t be bothering with the hAoe wrap. I do love my dyspn hair dryer though. Condition of my hair has improved with it. So now have super sleek shiny straight hair.

Thanks for all the input. I'm still in an agony of indecision... Though immensely envious of all of you with naturally curly hair.

Not in London, unfortunately, SilverLake, but a good idea!

I think in reality I will have to settle for the Curl Secret.

You need to spend more on a decent hairdresser who gets fine straight dull hair. A good cut will make a vast difference, and a good hairdresser can show you how to use normal straighteners etc for decent curls. My hairdresser can use ghd straighteners to put lovely curls in my hair which last all day, so it’s a technique not an equipment issue.

Highlights and colour help hair feel thicker.

I have the air wrap and I bloody love it. It is great, I have bought every contraption going with no joy.
This is brilliant and is so much better for your hair. I have the hairdryer also and since having that my hair has been in much better condition.
Thank you Mr Dyson, love them.

Jaffa, I completely get it. But £400 would buy me four haircuts/colours. And then I'd be stuck for the next 2 years. Confused

My DH bought me one for Christmas - it’s unbelievably good!

I had one and gave it a good go every single bloody day for two weeks. It was shit, so I returned it. It did nothing for my thick straight hair and my roots were always frizzy because you can never get that bit dry properly.

I have an air wrap, absolutely love it.
My hair is very long and thick, I have a Dyson hairdryer too but don’t bother using that anymore as the hairdryer attachment does the job.
Because of the length and thickness of my hair, the curls do drop but they don’t drop out. What i’m left with is perfect for me.
I agree with the trick of a light hairspray before touching the curls, it seems to do mine good.
The other point is that I make sure I use the cool setting well before releasing the curl, so that it’s fully cooled.

I haven’t been sorry about my purchase, I absolutely love it.

I got one from DH for my Christmas but was too scared to open until now! I've been getting Brazilian blowdrys fir a few years now, results are amazing but the chemicals r so strong that my eyes nip like hell as soon as I go into shop! Have always known it can be good for u but the torment of thick frizzy hair made it worth the risk!

If this works like the majority of you it's are saying it will be a life saver! I went in for trial in John Lewis too & did seem easy enough to use. I liked how u only need to use one hand for most of it!

I have bought and tried everything mentioned here, the Big Hair (my favourite for many years), the Curl Secret, a Parlux and many more but my favourite now is the AirWrap. It’s not intuitive to use but with practice I get great waves, flicks and volume in my very straight, layered hair with none of the frizz I used to get with the Big Hair or the snarls that sometimes happen with the Curl Secret.

Someone upthread said buy from QVC as you can return it within 30 days if you dislike it. In fact if you buy direct from the Dyson website its an even better deal - it’s free P&P, a 35 day trial period and if you decide to return it they send a courier to collect it free of charge whereas with QVC you have to pay postage for delivery and returns. So you really can try it out with no cost to you.

I've changed my mind now as I did my hair from wet last night straight with the curls and it was amazing! They hardly dropped out at all

I really want the hairdryer! I'm hoping that there will be lots of second hand ones for sale with people having replaced them with the air wrap Grin

@LadyHooHa I was reading something about the cocoloco hair curlers for straight hair- I think I'm going to order them as lots of fab reviews on Amazon and only £20...

I have the babyliss Pro perfect curl. Loved it so much when I moved back here from abroad I bought another UK one so don't need to use the transformer. Absolutely brilliant. So easy to use, have dead straight, thick shoulder length hair. Takes me 10 minutes and either have them tighter ringlet style or leave them in less time and then use my fingers to loosen the curls for beachy waves. The curls easily last 2 days with the second day being more relaxed and beachy. About £100.

Just looked at the Dyson website, following those PP who mentioned Dyson doing a money-back guarantee - and they are out of stock! Fate is presumably trying to tell me something!!
