To want a Dyson Airwrap

My hair is hideously straight. Poker straight. Not-in-a-good-way straight. Just sodding straight.

I have, over the years, spent much money on heated rollers. I've tried blow-drying with a big metal brush. I've tried every effing thing to get a bit of bounce into my stupid straight hair. My current curling device is Remington straighteners - it's fine for about 25 minutes (so long as there isn't a scrap of moisture in the air) but my hair is snapping off at the ends. It's long - or was, until it started snapping off. FML.

I covet the Dyson Airwrap. I could afford it if I gave up eating for several months, and cut back on several other things. But is it worth it?

I got my daughter one and then borrowed it (Ahem)! I love it! Don't know if its worth the money mind but i still love it

FoxFoxSierra · 11/01/2019 16:21

I really want one but refuse to pay what they are charging currently! I think that in a year or 2 there will be a newer version everyone will want and these will be available much cheaper, I will get one them

My curls stayed in beautifully. I read a while back that when you curl your hair you should reduce the amount of conditioner you use drastically (none at all for v fine hair like mine) and it's true, it works. I use a heat protecting hairspray before doing each section, and a really light texturising spray instead of hairspray to hold the curls.

This was back when I was using the Cloud 9 tongs, but it works for the Airwrap too.

I wouldn't be so sure. The Supersonic has been out for a long while and I don't think I've ever seen the price reduce - not even in flash sales.

BifsWif · 11/01/2019 16:51

There is a returns policy with both Dyson and QVC.

I agree that it won’t be reduced anytime soon, the hairdryers haven’t been reduced since they’ve been on sale.

kmc1111 · 11/01/2019 16:56

I wouldn’t expect a price reduction in the future. If Dyson comes out with a better version in a couple of years they’ll just discontinue the current version.

They are likely to bring out a few different colours/cases, and if you hold off you might be able to pick it up when they have a free gift promo, but I wouldn’t wait for a sale.

NyNameIs · 11/01/2019 17:00

The dyson hairdryer hasn't dropped when they launched the pro one and that's been a round several years, I can't see this one dropping anytime soon.

NyNameIs · 11/01/2019 17:22

smeg Ditching conditioner made a massive difference to my hair in general. I also have fine lanky hair :)

My salon owner had a play with mine last night and she loved it, she didn't charge me for dds haircut yesterday as she used my airwrap to do her own hair once she'd finished dds. Her curls looked gorgeous this morning and had dropped to a beach wave. She said it's felt really really weird using it though but she put that down to her spending several hours a day for the last few years using a round brush and dryer and a wand or ghd to curl clients hair so can see why a new technique would feel clunky. She's considering getting one for personal use but I've seen other professional hair stylists say they don't rate it.

I've seen people say it's great for long hair but shit for short as well as people say it's better on shorter and shit for long. That it's a waste of tine for people with thin hair and then people with thin hair saying they don't think it would be good on thick hair. Some professionals love it, some think it's over rated.

It seems to be something that you'll not know until you've spent time it and because if the price it's a lot to take a gamble on. Several places have a good returns policy and the fact it keeps seeking out means people are buying it so for every person who says it's not worth it there's people who feel it's very much worth it.

In hindsight I could have saved myself £50 and just got the volume set as I don't really use the bigger barrels or the harder brush, I figured at the time if I only got the smaller barrels I'd want the bigger ones at a later date and they'd be £50 alone whereas with the complete set for £50 you get two extra attachments, so I thought fuck it!

For the pp who's developing frizz at roots, I've seen a few people mention this and some people have used a tiny bit of smoothing serum at the roots.

LadyHooHa · 11/01/2019 20:22

Right. I have decided. I am getting one as soon as they return on QVC. If it doesn't work for my stupid hair, I will return it. If it does, I can cope with the monthly repayments, especially as I will stop paying for two credit cards soon Grin.

Bluebells, I think we may be of a similar vintage!! I have also experimented with perms recently-ish (having had poodle perms in the 80s). One wasn't too bad (though was also pretty pricey). The other was just as pricey, and was absolutely hopeless. It looked as if I'd had nothing done. I went back to the hairdresser, and she very kindly styled it for me - but then I looked like Kylie Minogue in Neighbours. Grin

I love love mine. Curls have stayed in all day and no frizz at all! I've had a lot of people notice how shiny my hair is. Love love!

BluebellsareBlue · 11/01/2019 20:52

Ha ha @LadyHooHa they used to say I looked like Debbie Robinson from neighbours... def of the same era Grin

Fleabag123 · 11/01/2019 20:55

I tried one in John Lewis today and now really want one! Grrr

Littlefish · 11/01/2019 21:01

I had mine done with the Airwrap today at the hairdressers. My hair simply won't hold a curl, but it's stayed in for 7 hours so far, and is curlier than I've ever seen it before! It's actually a bit too curly. I'll be really interested to see whether the curls are still in tomorrow morning.

MrsChollySawcutt · 11/01/2019 21:14

Ooh mine finally arrived from QVC this afternoon. Can't wait to try it out on mine and DDs hair tomorrow!

BifsWif · 12/01/2019 10:47

I’ve had to stop using mine halfway through to post a photo. I actually said “wow” outloud.

My hair is so damaged it snaps, it’s been coloured and processed for years and straightened every day. It is like candy floss before I put the straighteners through it. This is it with just one section done using the straighting brush.

I love it.

Those who preserved from QVC, how long did it take to come after you received your shipping email please??

Chomping at the bit to get mine!
