To think you should get dressed to go shopping

Went into local town today and there were two women wandering around the shopping centre in their pyjamas and dressing gowns.

I mean really, it's not hard to throw a pair of jeans and a jumper on is it ?

OP posts:
MountPheasant · 29/12/2018 15:14

People on mumsnet always respond with ‘why do you care what other people are wearing?’

But I’m 100% with you OP. How hard is it to put some clothes on.

Limensoda · 29/12/2018 15:19

Can't think of a single reason that's ok but I'm sure you'll get lots of responses saying it is.

Julianaa · 29/12/2018 15:21

It's odd but I don't really care. If I lived with someone who did that and they wanted to wear the "outdoor" dressing gown indoors, especially in/on the bed, then I would have to ask if they would change. But that's the same as if anyone wears "street" clothes/shoes indoors.

ineedtolovemyself · 29/12/2018 15:22

Would love to do this as I love pjs and my dressing gown but never actually would. Obviously have no respect for other people let alone themselves

madmum5811 · 29/12/2018 15:22

My friends Mum is dying of cancer, they have sent her home. My friend was in Asda this morning with a coat thrown on over her pj top to find something her Mum had said she fancied.

I cannot judge after hearing that.

Klobluchar · 29/12/2018 15:22

Yeah you will get lots of posts accusing you of judging and “why do you care” etc but honestly, it does matter.

Would you be happy if someone in your family went out in their nightwear because I wouldn’t.

crispysausagerolls · 29/12/2018 15:25

I don’t think it’s acceptable, no. But i am interested by the changing times - 100 years ago, a man not being in a full suit on a daily basis would have elicited the same shock/horror. I do think getting dressed to leave the house is a sign of self respect and just generally having your shit together.

Superpooper · 29/12/2018 15:26

When I was a student I’d throw on a hoodie over my pjs to go shopping. I was 17. No way I’d ever go out in a dressing gown and pjs - bizarre!

LastOneDancing · 29/12/2018 15:27

I have once been changed for bed & realised I had no milk for the kids breakfast, so I threw on boots & a hoody and went to the corner shop.

I absolutely wouldn't go to a shopping centre in broad daylight because that's just odd.

Were they last night's PJs?? Do they get dressed when they get home? Did they have pants on, and if so we're they yesterday's slept in pants?
So many questions...

whataSummer · 29/12/2018 15:27

sssh/ That's disablist or classist or misgynist. or somesuch nonsense.

PositiveVibez · 29/12/2018 15:29

I'm sure that is not the case for everyone who goes shopping in their pyjamas though is it madmum

You used to see it alot in my nearest town. Pj's, face full of make-up and rollers in.

I'm sure it's not the pyjamas they slept in either, meaning they have chose to put pyjamas on instead of clothes. It's attention seeking behaviour.

JacquesHammer · 29/12/2018 15:29

Dressing gown? No.

PJ trousers? Absolutely. I spent 3 months in a full leg cast. My options were limited Grin

LagerthaTheShieldMaiden · 29/12/2018 15:32

I do nip out in mine occasionally, they just look like joggers though. I wouldn't go out in a dressing gown. Can't see how it matters. I work hard, sometimes I feel like being lazy, so I do.

ADastardlyThing · 29/12/2018 15:33

Exceptional circumstances aside (as in the time I had noro and no one to drop the kids off at school so i had to chuck them out the car so I could go straight home and die) I think it's grim.

DialsMavis · 29/12/2018 15:40

I wouldn't want to get my lovely indoor stuff all gross from going outside in it

NameChangerAmI · 29/12/2018 15:42

It's common in my local supermarket.

Not sure how I feel about it. Part of me wants to do it, but I never would.

whataSummer · 29/12/2018 15:44

@NameChangerAmI

Do you come from the North?

CarolDanvers · 29/12/2018 15:45

I walk the dog in my PJ's for his short ten minute walk at half six/seven in the morning, at the weekend, then go back to bed.

I don't understand why it affects anyone else.

Fantababy · 29/12/2018 15:45

Do you come from the North?

Hmm
JacquesHammer · 29/12/2018 15:48

Do you come from the North?

I’ve never seen anyone shopping in PJs and dressing gown. Unless you count my PJ trousers but I’m pretty sure casts are the same down south too Wink

XOhTriangleSquare · 29/12/2018 15:48

IME ifs always women. I’ve never seen a man shuffling round Tesco in his dressing gown. And I’m sure it would read very differently.

Going to the shops in your pjs is literally saying ‘I don’t give a fuck’ - not about myself, or about anyone else. Or it’s about attention seeking. Neither are particularly attractive.

On the internet that may be a ‘right on’ sentiment, but in real life I tend to generally prefer people who do give at least a little bit of a fuck. I think it’s a decent quality to have.

Personally, I respect the fact that no one needs or wants to see me in my slobby nightclothes.

TornFromTheInside · 29/12/2018 15:48

People shopping in Asda in their pyjamas are a disgrace.
There's nothing up with Sainsbury's

Mouseville65 · 29/12/2018 15:49

If there was 2 of them in full pjs and dressing gowns could it have been a charity thing?

yips · 29/12/2018 15:50

I wouldn't do it personally, but can't say I'd be bothered if I noticed someone else out in PJs. Doesn't affect my life in the slightest.

TheyMostlyComeAtNightMostly · 29/12/2018 15:50

Yeah you will get lots of posts accusing you of judging and “why do you care” etc but honestly, it does matter

Why?
