To think you should get dressed to go shopping

Went into local town today and there were two women wandering around the shopping centre in their pyjamas and dressing gowns.

I mean really, it's not hard to throw a pair of jeans and a jumper on is it ?

I can't believe someone used the word disabilist to throw around as a joke FFS!

I am disabled and I'm also seriously ill,I also have 5DC and 3 of them are autistic,I have never and would never go out in my PJ's or a dressing gown Envythat's the thought of it making me sick!

The only women I knew that did this were not disabled, were not ill,did not have loads to cope with they were both very very lazy and that was how they described themselves!

I think it shows a real lack of respect for yourself and for people around you,try explaining to an autistic child why they have to put clothes on to go out when there are grown women walking around in PJ's!
Not something I had to deal with but friends who have children on the autism spectrum have gone through that and it was a bloody nightmare for them!

AGHHHH · 29/12/2018 16:31

It looks sloppy and I wouldn't do it myself but it doesn't really bother me or affect me in any way.

HarrySnotter · 29/12/2018 16:32

It's absolutely not OK. Never has been, never will be.

NotTheQueen · 29/12/2018 16:33

The worst I’ve seen was an older man, his dressing gown mostly open to display grubby tightly no so whiteys and a stained singlet in Asda Roehampton about 8 years ago. I’ve done the milk dash in my PJ trousers and a hoodie to the corner shop, but actually wandering around the supermarket or shopping centre is wrong. Unless they’re teenagers trying to be cool I judge them as having no self respect. I remember job centres in Ireland had to put up signs informing Claimants that ‘street clothing’ must be worn when attending job see,I gotta appointments

OneOfTheGrundys · 29/12/2018 16:33

Of course there are exceptions. Extreme exceptions. Illness, trauma, grief.
As an everyday habit however, I think it’s horrible. Or, to use a word much favoured by my grandma, slovenly. Have some standards. Just. Get. Dressed.

NotTheQueen · 29/12/2018 16:33

Damn auto correct - job seeking appointments

riotlady · 29/12/2018 16:36

Have totally thrown a hoody on over my pjs (which are generally joggers or leggings) to go to the shops. So long as you can’t see my bits I don’t think it really matters

XmasHolly · 29/12/2018 16:37

I've been to A&E in pyjamas plus I've done an emergency dash to the vet in pjs too but other than that I've always got dressed. Especially living in a village as People Will Talk. Grin

BowStreetStunner · 29/12/2018 16:38

For me absolutely not but it is not for me to tell others and it certainly does not bother me!

Villanelley · 29/12/2018 16:39

I have been known to slip a coat over my PJs to take the dogs out. 10 mins round the block at 12pm is about as low as I'd go though.

Tartyflette · 29/12/2018 16:40

speckeldy that is indeed very odd, especially for a lowly sub. Had they just come off the overnight night shift?
Even so, while some degree of laxity was to be observed on overnights, you still generally had to wear actual clothes.
—can’t decide which broadsheet would be more likely, Telegraph or Grauniad—

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 29/12/2018 16:41

Scruffs.

Hedgehogblues · 29/12/2018 16:43

So weird to get upset by other people's clothing choices

KnightlyMyMan · 29/12/2018 16:44

I’ve been into Tesco wearing a rubber duck onesie... but in my defence I was en route home from a charity PJ day at work and realised I had no cat litter for a tray that desperately needed changing.

I explained this to the cashier- who said I was not the first to come in PJ’s that day 😂

halfwitpicker · 29/12/2018 16:47

If you don't think it's gross, you have a problem really.

Claw001 · 29/12/2018 16:48

I don’t have a problem with it.

I often wear my pj’s to the local corner shop, early morning/late night.

Eliza9917 · 29/12/2018 16:48

You should get dressed to go shopping but this week I really wish it was acceptable to go out in pyjamas with hair as is and no make up.

As such I haven't been out since we got back on boxing day Grin

poppiesallykatie · 29/12/2018 16:48

It's the same as heavily pregnant girls in the maternity unit sucking hard on the cigarettes; it is a fuck you to society. It is also territorial, this is my 'hood' I am so comfortable in it, I move between my house and my space seamlessly. I am not talking about tired harassed people who pop out for a second, but those who choose the style of pjs to go out in.

guacatrole · 29/12/2018 16:49

Yeah you will get lots of posts accusing you of judging and “why do you care” etc but honestly, it does matter.

It honestly doesn't! Why would it?

jane1956 · 29/12/2018 16:50

If they are in Pjs have they bothered to get washed??? doubt it

guacatrole · 29/12/2018 16:51

Trufacts.

Proper turf wars round these parts between the robe wearers and the flannel pj wearers.

Bastards, it'll be some MadMax shit next.

Tutlefru · 29/12/2018 16:51

YANBU. Saw a woman in Morrisons in a bright pink dressing gown. Heard her before I saw her.

I don’t get why anyone wouldn’t just put on a coat tbh. They’re designed to be worn outside. Confused

She then complained about the carrier bag charge. Hmm

Itsear · 29/12/2018 16:52

People can wear what they want, wearing pjs to town is still very scummy though. On a slightly different subject, pretty much everyone that lives here wears jeans/t-shirt/casual for shopping. My DMs family are from a large northern city and it seems pretty standard to dress up and wear slap to go to town. Again, people can wear what they want but it seems OTT to me

Mad Max: Furry Road?

Schmoobarb · 29/12/2018 16:54

YANBU. It’s lazy and dirty.
