To think you should get dressed to go shopping

Went into local town today and there were two women wandering around the shopping centre in their pyjamas and dressing gowns.

I mean really, it's not hard to throw a pair of jeans and a jumper on is it ?

I remember the days when you'd be thrown out of a supermarket for wearing your pyjamas. It was "indecent".

Was it really that long ago??

LagerthaTheShieldMaiden · 29/12/2018 17:48

Hilarious responses. Lazy, grim, dirty, slovenly and I'm surprised and delighted to see woke being thrown in the mix too 😂 People get really over excited about what others do or don't choose to wear, don't they!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 29/12/2018 17:50

We don’t get that in our Waitrose Xmas Grin

Inthetropics · 29/12/2018 17:57

It's common where i live either at breakfast time or at night. Nothing obscene, though.

CarolDanvers · 29/12/2018 18:05

My pj's are all jogging style bottoms so I can walk the dog first thing in the morning in them. Fleecy lined joggers from Primark are the best.

MincePieMum · 29/12/2018 18:22

I was literally just thinking about this today. I've not seen it at the school gates at all. And not heard any stories of outrage for a few years now. I wondered today, if this was not a thing anymore?

I was comfy and warm in my new matching pjs and dressing gown. Time to drive home from DM's for a few days and I didn't want to get dressed. Fear of having to stop at the services in my pj's got me dressed. I needn't have bothered.Grin

SadOtter · 29/12/2018 18:32

It does look scruffy and is lazy but, I went to work in my PJ's for a charity thing and it was the most comfortable day I have ever had at work, if I could find a way of making it look acceptable every day I would.

AsleepAllDay · 29/12/2018 18:48

Not a gown but I do wear PJs on the five minute journey to Tesco. Clothes are clothes

DontCallMeCharlotte · 29/12/2018 18:51

I work in a naice home counties village and there are two women who regularly go to the shop in full night attire, PJs, fleecy dressing gown and fluffy slippers. Usually just after lunch. You bet I judge. But my main thought is get a fucking job.

girlonatrain19 · 29/12/2018 18:53

Its gross op, I totally agree with you! Grow up and get dressed, heck, even have a shower if you feel like it!🤦🏻‍♀️🙄

The only time I've gone out in pjs is with a coat over the top to walk the dog round the block at 6am.

Schmoobarb · 29/12/2018 18:54

People get really over excited about what others do or don't choose to wear, don't they!

No, not really.

People were asked a question. They answered. 🤷🏼‍♀️ If you think that amounts to over excitement you really could do with getting out more get dressed first

It is lazy because it takes a matter of minutes to get dressed so not being arsed to do that is laziness. It’s dirty because the likelihood is they’ve been sleeping in those PJs with sweaty crotch etc and not showered. Because if they had they’d get dressed, presumably. Into clothes.

Schmoobarb · 29/12/2018 18:56

My pj's are all jogging style bottoms

Same here. Mine are all legging style or like plain black trousers. I don’t go out in then but at least it would look better than fluffy pink unicorn ones or tartan ones!

User758172 · 29/12/2018 18:58

After my third was born, I was so busy in the mornings I used to wear pyjamas for the school run - mind you, it was winter, so I put jeans and a coat and scarf over the top. Came home and was back in my pjs again. No one would have known...

User758172 · 29/12/2018 19:02

And mum did the same in the 70s! Did the school run in her nightie, put a coat and scarf on, and and tells me other mums with newborns did too. Very posh school too. And she’s very fastidious, do it must be alright to take these shortcuts, as long as no one knows you’re taking them!

Bluntness100 · 29/12/2018 19:08

I've seen this and it was two women who were clearly attention seeking and thought they were somehow fab to go and go get a takeaway down a busy parade in the early evening in their slippers, dressing gown and pyjamas.

Everyone basically laughed at them, they looked like a right pair of twats. If they had one ounce of self awareness between them then I'd bet good money they didn't repeat the experience.

Did I judge, yes, I also thought they looked like a right pair of twats and I also laughed.

Screamqueenz · 29/12/2018 19:36

Loungewear as outerwear, I understand, they might not realise what loungewear means. But dressing gown and slipper is a bit far.

I wouldn't do it myself, and would judge someone else for doing it, but I don't see anyone getting excited.

I judge people who don't pick up after their dog, or spit in the street, or are rude to shop assistants or waitresses.

Luckily, I've got a new pair of judgey pants, (which I will only wear at home because they are loungewear).

Livpool · 29/12/2018 20:02

I hate this too! And I always wonder - are they in the same pjs from the night (I.e. slept in and they haven't washed) or brand new and clean pjs. I find new pjs more weird - why not just put on clothes?! But less icky I suppose

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 29/12/2018 20:05

It's never acceptable.

It's lazy and quite frankly disgusting. I hate seeing people wandering around places like Tesco in PJs they've clearly spent all night in.

It doesn't take long to throw on a pair of jeans, a top and to brush your hair.

masterandmargarita · 29/12/2018 20:06

I'm not sure why having a new born means you can't get dressed

OhFlipMama · 29/12/2018 20:08

I've never seen it and would assume they're doing it for a charity day or something - you never know, really.

OutPinked · 29/12/2018 20:10

Putting a jacket over a pj top is different to just going out in full pjs, dressing gown and slippers. I don’t think there’s any excuse for it tbh, it’s sheer laziness.

OutPinked · 29/12/2018 20:10

Have had four newborns, never left the house wearing my PJs.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 29/12/2018 20:17

I stopped at an M4 motorway services the other day and saw a family - ALL in pyjamas and dressing gowns (including the driver!!) - getting out of a car at just after midday. Each to their own, I suppose, but I'd be so embarrassed to behave like that...

ForalltheSaints · 29/12/2018 20:28

Hygiene reasons make me think it is unreasonable not to get dressed. Even though I have a poor sense of smell.

Get up ten or fifteen minutes earlier (and with catch-up tv, no reason not to go to bed earlier if you need a given number of hours' sleep).

PatchworkElmer · 29/12/2018 20:34

I was just wondering earlier whether I could get away with a late night gym session and shower, and changing into pjs there before heading home. Decided against it, though tbh I’m not sure why!
