To think you should get dressed to go shopping

Went into local town today and there were two women wandering around the shopping centre in their pyjamas and dressing gowns.

I mean really, it's not hard to throw a pair of jeans and a jumper on is it ?

There was a woman in my local Sainsbury’s in her pjs with a dressing gown over it yesterday. I didn’t stare or anything but I did silently judge
It’s just attention seeking, it takes 30 seconds to chuck in a pair of trackies and a hoody

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 29/12/2018 16:57

I live in the South and have seen someone in the Tesco Metro in our village in pjs slippers and dressing gown more than once. I tutted inwardly.
On Christmas Eve there was a man in Pjs and dressing gown in the large supermarket I was shopping in - after again inwardly tutting I realised he was a member of staff and there were in fact a few staff in their pjs (although the others seemed to have on only pj bottoms with a T shirt) - I don’t care if I’m a snob I thought it was gross. It looks slovenly and I really didn’t want to be served by someone who was wearing clothes they go to bed in.

blackteasplease · 29/12/2018 16:58

I don't see why people don't just wear a tracksuit to bed if they are going to do this! Then at least no one woild know.

Of failing that pull on a hoodie and trackie bottoms over their pjs. A dressing gown is a step too far imo!

blackteasplease · 29/12/2018 16:59

Slippers is extra awful as it means you have dirty slippers when yoi get in! Which defeats the object of slippers surely?

I mean it doesn't upset me but I just wonder why you woild.

Furrycushion · 29/12/2018 17:04

I was in Costco one day & the women of the family were in slippers, PJ's & fleecy dressing gowns one of which had big white stars on it so couldn't have doubled as a coat. It looked so weird & I think it's very different from slinging on a hoody & a pair of boots over pj bottoms to dash to the corner shop (which I haven't done but can understand)

recklessruby · 29/12/2018 17:05

I don't like it. I think it does look like you just got out of bed and went out without washing. It's like you don't respect yourself.
However I have stuck a coat and boots over pyjamas to collect dc unexpectedly in the middle of the night and like a pp was really worried about breaking down and having to call Green Flag. Yadnbu

MishMashMosher · 29/12/2018 17:08

Yes you're right. It's not hard to put clothes on and it is a bit odd, but as long as they're not naked or wearing offensive clothing, I'm not that bothered what anyone else is wearing.

guacatrole · 29/12/2018 17:10

People can wear what they want, wearing pjs to town is still very scummy though. On a slightly different subject, pretty much everyone that lives here wears jeans/t-shirt/casual for shopping. My DMs family are from a large northern city and it seems pretty standard to dress up and wear slap to go to town. Again, people can wear what they want but it seems OTT to me

So less than you is scummy, more than you is over the top?

guacatrole · 29/12/2018 17:11

I used to be offended by young men wearing rude or misogynistic or outright pornographic clothes but thankfully that seems to have become less fashionable. Can't get worked up about PJs.

speakout · 29/12/2018 17:12

Some people stink and possibly wear the same clothes for days running.
Some people may wear outdoor shoes in their house.

Blueblueyellow · 29/12/2018 17:12

A lot of the time that I see girls/women do this is because they are going to get hair make ect done for a night out so pj's are easier to put on and off. Just a thought!

MaisyPops · 29/12/2018 17:14

As predicted, some people have gone for the woke 'who cares they're just clothes' approach.

It's not ok to go shopping in pyjamas. In my area it's only women who seem to do it and they're never cross over ones that look like jogging bottoms.

I did an impromptu pick up for DH after a night out in my checked/tartan flannel pyjama bottoms and a hoody. It felt scruffy and I was worried if I broke down. Grin

CherryPavlova · 29/12/2018 17:15

Definitely odd/lazy/a bit Eastenders but each to their own.

wrenika · 29/12/2018 17:18

It's no worse than some godawful fashion trends...I've been out to do food shopping or pick people up with a hoody and boots over pjs but not into town shopping mode. Comfort is everything. I live in pjs when I'm not working.

couchparsnip · 29/12/2018 17:19

Can't see how its a problem. They arent naked and not hurting anyone.

I drove my son to his friends in my slippers yesterday though. I must be slovenly.

RosaAbsolute · 29/12/2018 17:24

I've done it before but I agree it's slovenly and not right. When I say I've done it I mean I've pulled a big coat on over a pyjama top and pair of pyjama bottoms that look like jogging bottoms but I would never wear a dressing gown or slippers out! Hopefully no one noticed when I did it. I'm sure I looked scruffy but sometimes the idea of pulling on jeans when pyjamas are so soft and comfortable is really unappealing.

Offredismysister · 29/12/2018 17:32

On the flipside, I was at a local dog walking spot yesterday. It was very muddy & there was a man in a pin stripe suit, camel overcoat, hat & cane. Bizarre.

JuniperSling · 29/12/2018 17:36

It's like publicly sating "Hey, I haven't had a wash today!"

JuniperSling · 29/12/2018 17:40

*stating

Bakingberry · 29/12/2018 17:41

I don't think I'd even answer the door to my supermarket delivery in my PJ's! GrinGrinGrin

MrsFoxPlus4 · 29/12/2018 17:43

Is it attention seeking behaviour? Who gives them attention? I wouldn’t do it, but sometimes I throw a massive hoody and leggings on and still look as terrible as I do in pjs lol

MaisyPops · 29/12/2018 17:45

I'm not sure its attention seeking but it's certainly a trend that is reinforced in some places.
I'm aware of primary schools who have sent letters home to parents asking them to get dressed on the school run instead of wearing pyjamas.

MrsIronfoundersson · 29/12/2018 17:46

I've just been to Sainsbury's and seen a man in a very grubby onesie in the wine dept.

My dear old dad used to get out of bed to collect me and my friends (aged 16 / 17) from nightclubs at 3am in his pyjamas with a coat over the top and I loved him for it (but did slightly worry about breakdowns!)

We have a guy in our village who goes to the paper shop every morning in vest, pants and flat cap.

speakout · 29/12/2018 17:46

Bakingberry

I am the same.
I only pad down to the kitchen very early to make a coffee to take upstairs to drink while I get ready.
I am always showered and dressed by 7am, I don't even have family breakfast in my PJs.

formerbabe · 29/12/2018 17:47

Unless you're seriously ill, have just come out of hospital or have just given birth, then yanbu and people should be dressed.

When my second baby was a newborn, and I had to take my toddito nursery, I'd stick on a pair of leggings, leave my nightie on and wear my coat over it!
