To think you should get dressed to go shopping

Went into local town today and there were two women wandering around the shopping centre in their pyjamas and dressing gowns.

I mean really, it's not hard to throw a pair of jeans and a jumper on is it ?

Well - I went to school in a uniform, work in smart professional suit, weddings in 'posh frocks', funerals in sober frocks, swimming in beach costume and to the shops in smart casual daywear.
It's called dressing appropriate to the occasion - and yes, accepting their are customary courtesies and social norms to recognise when deciding what you wear.

By all means dress according to your individual taste and desire, but don't be surprised if people comment. I'd find it very odd to find someone in the shopping centre in a bathing suit, pyjamas or in a baby grow as a adult ...........I'd assume they were attention seeking and a bit 'wanting'.

StoneofDestiny · 30/12/2018 23:53

......there are...

Claudia1980 · 30/12/2018 23:57

I personally think it’s lazy and sloppy and wouldn’t do it, but each to their own.

MarcieBluebell · 31/12/2018 00:02

I think you have to be quite attention seeking to do this.

TheyMostlyComeAtNightMostly · 31/12/2018 00:03

I guess my point was that there are many types of clothing that are worn to attract attention, many that some people don't like while others do, etc. and so as long as it's not offensive, it doesn't really matter what someone wears to the shops, does it?

But we have numerous people on this thread looking down their noses at those who would dare to say "it doesn't matter", as if they are a bunch of loony liberal snowflakes who ought to be more angered by the 100% harmless and meaningless life choices made by strangers.

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 31/12/2018 00:05

Apparently you must wear the kinds that are deemed acceptable by designers, the media and the "masses" though, otherwise you shall be subject to dirty looks and quiet judgment. Doesn't that sound ridiculous

No more ridiculous than by pj’s,dressing gowns and slippers in the first place though. Why bother? They aren’t designed to be hard wearing so why not just wear sloppy day clothes and socks to bed?

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 31/12/2018 00:07

Sorry - if you aren’t planning to change in the morning.

Don't ask me, I don't own pj's or a dressing gown. I do own a pair of slippers though. I don't wear shoes in the house and slippers keep my feet warm.

GabsAlot · 31/12/2018 00:23

apprently my tesco said their policy allow it as long as theyre covererd appropraitly so looks like we can all follow suit for out weekly shop

Strawbberrypineapple · 31/12/2018 00:30

Id think it was funny and laugh to myself!- as long as people arent exposing any part of themselves (and Ive seen a few bumcracks when people have bent down when wearing trousers!) then I dont care really but I wouldnt wear them out as Id feel too vulnerable.

pineapplebryanbrown · 31/12/2018 00:31

A pint of milk late at night with a coat on top and shoes i understand. But full dressing gown and slippers for a whole big shop is strange. Your slippers will get dirty. I change from shoes to slippers in the house to avoid tracking in dirt.

MissyCooper · 31/12/2018 00:34

Haha. I went out in my pj bottoms with ugg boots and my husbands hoodie when I was in labour with DD1. Only time I’ve been across the door in pjs and I’m not ashamed!

TheVoiceOfRaisin · 31/12/2018 00:36

I felt bad enough when I locked myself out of my flat years ago and had to walk barefoot through town in my dressing gown to get my flatmate's keys off him.

manicmij · 31/12/2018 00:42

If you disagree then you are guilty of some ism or other. So that's me guilty as charged. Who can't put on a pair of jeans or joggers, a hoody or jumper to go to a shop. Self respect!

Only once have I ever been in a shop wearing a nightie and leggings less than 24 hours after giving birth to buy ready made formula, I've never been so embarrassed Blush

WhenLifeGivesYouLemonsx · 31/12/2018 07:33

I just quickly put on some jeans and a t shirt but I definitely wouldn't go town wearing pyjamas and a gown lol aren't they cold?! Confused

JacquesHammer · 31/12/2018 08:48

Someone in a full leg cast? 😁

CarolDanvers · 31/12/2018 09:16

What the fuck. Is your fanjo not drowning in its own sweat by an hour past bedtime?

Absolutely not. Maybe you should see a doctor if yours is if you wear loose cotton pjs that are styled like joggers? Can't be pleasant for you Sad

pineapplebryanbrown · 31/12/2018 09:28

I also need to air my nethers at bedtime so PJs are for lounging in the evening. Airing my nethers also prevents my adult sons bursting into my bedroom unannounced so it's double bubble.

Belindabauer · 31/12/2018 10:09

thighofrelief101 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Belindabauer · 31/12/2018 10:12

I was always brought up to wear slippers in doors.
They are not outdoor wear.
However last year both my dds had 'sliders' these look like slippers but are in fact outdoor shoes. They wore them around the pool.

aspoonfulofyourownmedicine · 31/12/2018 15:57

I can't bring myself to be bothered by what other people wear.....

I've gone out in pyjamas, picked DH/DS/Dbro up in them, I wore them in public while heavily pregnant because everything else was so bloody uncomfortable - fair dos they were black loose bottoms, I've worn them to nip to the shops......

I come in from work, shower, clean pyjamas on, tea - if I have to nip out in the car as an emergency, I will do. My pyjamas are all legging bottoms/tshirt style, are clean every evening and I sleep naked , so don't even wear them for bed.

I would throw a hoody and coat on rather than my dressing gown though, but honestly can't be chewed worrying about other peoples lifestyle choices when they don't affect me

petmad · 31/12/2018 16:23

when my children were little their school was less than 5 mins away i never went in my pjs or dressing i was always washed and

PhilomenaNewYearButterfly · 31/12/2018 16:28

Same here with my first 2 petmad. With these 2 it's a 20 minute walk.
