Hi everyone

I have lurgy and I feel miserable with it. I'm feeling rubbish and drowning in my own snot. Who else is sick? Remedies please! Grin

lubeybooby · 14/01/2019 14:53

I've hired a cleaner

a week later I remain at only 95% better. Still so tired easily and in snotville with bungy ears but feel otherwise well. I just cannot get on top of the house though, I am exhausted. So fuck it - been thinking of getting one for a while but this lurgy is the final straw

Hoopaloop · 14/01/2019 15:19

Was ill from beginning of December to about a week and half ago. Came down with it again on Saturday, but colder, hotter, coughier and more confused/muddled thoughts. Taken a day off sick today and am so utterly bored senseless.

MrsJamin · 14/01/2019 15:34

Me me me I have the lurgy. Had it just after the new year, got better and just had snot and have nosedived over this weekend. So annoying. Am So bored and frustrated.

iwonderwhen · 14/01/2019 18:02

I'm on the mend, I hope. After 3 weeks of it. Still got a hacking cough but not so bad as it was.
It does seem to come and almost go then come back with a vengeance

pineapplebryanbrown · 14/01/2019 19:26

poached i knew if i kept trying one day i would find a talent and i have.

The key to my success is a complete lack of training and knowledge, I'm not really fettered by intellect either. I'm a keyboard healer rather than a keyboard warrior.

lubey well done on hiring a cleaner, housework has exhausted and bored you into the state where you had to lie in the bath pissing yourself and wearing a crash helmet. You must rest, don't even look at mess or filth ever again it could be dangerous, you're very fragile.

YoThePussy · 14/01/2019 20:02

I developed the lurgy on the 26th October last year and have had it on and off ever since. Today I managed to walk up the slight slope to my house without clinging to lampposts and having rests every ten seconds.

I suspect the Lord has risen again in the form of Thigh with her cunning medical skills and advice. I am on a diet of M&S truffles and Antiguan rum following her ministering. I have taken out shares in Tena lady, Covonia and Lemsip and going ob others posts think I may make my fortune.

pineapplebryanbrown · 14/01/2019 23:08

Oh Pussy you poor kitty. You are ill because there isn't enough elegance in your life. You're suffering from disgust, not lurgy. Replace your dog's diamond collar and bathe in ass's milk.

OP posts:
YoThePussy · 15/01/2019 06:36

thigh I have gone one better and replaced the dog with two cats. Their arrival coincided with that of the lurgy but am sure they are not to blame. Their patting me with soft paws and constant loud purring is comforting. But, I fear this is just greed and wanting their food on the floor promptly at what they decree are mealtimes.

Am sending my tweeny maid out today to acquire some asses milk. Will immerse myself later with a tankard of rum.

Rafabella · 15/01/2019 08:53

I spent Christmas and new year in some weird twilight zone. Horrible just horrible.

Fluids - plain water or put some fresh lemon slices in there and literally knock it back. Glass after glass after glass. When you think you can't drink any more - drink some more! Thins the mucas which will make you feel better. Nurofen cold and flu tablets work for me. 2 every 4 hours.

When you feel up to it - soup.

mimibunz · 15/01/2019 09:03

I’ve found my people! Only on day 5, wicked cough with a side of peeing and pharting. Not an ounce of sympathy from my cat but my DH is a big believer in solidarity so has test coughed a few times too see if he’s got a lurgy in the making. Hmm

UniversalAunt · 15/01/2019 09:45

Days 28 & 24 here.
The worst has passed...but it is with us still.
The hacking cough just less of the wretching, still the mucous just cups rather than buckets worth, the aching swollen throat now tickles.

At first I thought it was the flu’ but however horrendous it has been,
and now matter how many times I tested with a reliable digital gadget, I have had a normal body temperature even when I have felt feverish and unwell. So not the flu.

We’ve managed to get every few days for some fresh air and essential supplies. OK for a half hour then exhaustion comes and rest essential.

I have been too tired to bother with the glorious beauty bestowed upon me by the Gods (rail, rail) so I tied the tumblng tessses up and out of bother and got by with glycolic face pads. After three weeks, it was just bleugh.

Yesterday I treated myself to a wash and blow dry at the local salon. Oh so much better, worth every penny. I now am in need of one of those new fangled Dyson curl-as-you-whirl hairdryers.

Thinking of a restorative salon facial...

YoThePussy · 15/01/2019 10:01

What a good idea, a facial sounds wonderful. Maybe a full body massage to knead out all the impurities and solidified phlegm. My cats have taken to pounding up and down my back when I am in bed which has a similar effect. I suspect they have acquired hobnailed boots from somewhere.

Once more into the breech dear friends, out for milk and that strange affliction called work.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 15/01/2019 10:04

I have the lurgy.

When I try to talk, I cough up green, lumpy phlegm. Confused

pineapplebryanbrown · 15/01/2019 10:25

Gleep that's good, phlegm is a physical manifestation of everything bad you've ever done leaving your body. The more you misbehaved as a yoot the more phlegm. It's nature's absolution, be comforted.

^Good tip about fluids and mucous @mimibunz.
This really does help.^
OH took this approach and did not have the near-death (!) drowning cough experiences I had.

I got by on bowls of soup and very milky porridge.
Just slid down, no effort to swallow.
Very comforting.
Although I had no appetite, I could eat something regular such as soup/porridge which meant I didn’t fall starving upon the neglected Christmas stash of nibbles(as often as I might have done). Blush.

I found my usual recipe of Lemsip etc did not touch the sides of this, I only got relief from the aches and pains enough to sleep from Co-codamol and MN recommended Difflam sore throat mouth wash.

Lozz22 · 15/01/2019 10:45

Kidney infection, full blown cold with sinusitis and now it's looking like a chest infection too. Cracking!!

lubeybooby · 15/01/2019 10:46

@thighofrelief101 you are my fave person ever

day 15 here - the mucus never ends (possible title of my new album)

UniversalAunt · 15/01/2019 10:54

green lumpy phlegm - how green?
Is there a Dulux *paint or DMC thread colour for matching?

Vivid green phlegm with raised body temperature and tiredness? I would consider a trip to GP to have your chest checked and take any meds prescribed.

Trust that Auntie in her heyday when nothing slowed her down would have ignored her body signals and ploughed on, only to be completely pole-axed flat out, depleted with a far longer recovery time.

Pneumonia is not known as the workaholic’s cold for nothing.

Many many years on, a more careful, considered and cautious approach leads Auntie to listen to body signals and take better care.

  • Farrow & Ball for stealth boast 😉
CobaltRose96 · 15/01/2019 10:57

Sinusitis here! Drowning in my own phlegm.

I'm also currently 32 weeks pregnant so can't take any of the usual meds aside from paracetamol. Arse.

UniversalAunt · 15/01/2019 10:59

@YoThePussy Maybe a full body massage to knead out all the impurities and solidified phlegm.

Oh yes, yes and thrice yes.

At worst of hacking cough, OH would ‘thump’ my back to loosen the cough. Given the lack of percussion type massage technique, the exercise possibly had a laying-on-of-hands placebo effect. Felt good at the time.

romany4 · 15/01/2019 11:04

DH and I managed to avoid it all Christmas but started feeling ill on New Years day. Not through drink as we're both teetotal I might add!
Now on day 14, still feeling awful. Headaches, shivers, sinus pain, earache, DH has a horrible cough and we both feel constantly sick and exhausted. Really fed up now.

pineapplebryanbrown · 15/01/2019 11:12

lubey why thank you, your welfare is never out of my mind.

OP posts:
pineapplebryanbrown · 15/01/2019 11:14

Romany well there's your problem I'm afraid. You've upset the blood / gin balance in your body. I am also teetotal but i was careful to drink enough to last a lifetime which was just caution on my part really.

'Day 46 in the Lightlypoachrd virus house'
"Poached unwisely continues to battle though and did a trip to Manchester and back yesterday (from London) for work. She is now even more clammy but refuses to submit and lose the challenge. Poached Went to a ballroom dance class tonight 😬 and the teacher almost squirmed when he put his hand on her clammy back. 😉
Let me confirm that this bug does not enhance dance ability. "

Had a 2 hour sleep earlier (am working from home today) and my cat decided to noisily throw up next to me in the bedroom. Ffs.
