My real life recent examples:

"About to hang up our Christmas cards onto the wall and gutted to find our stapler is crap, doesn't staple anything, argh!"

Stealth boast translation: look how popular we are

"I'm so sick of getting asked for ID, I just want to buy my gin without ratching for my drivers license, I'm 35 and a mother of three for goodness sake"

Stealth blast translation: I'm soooo young looking

"Wow Holly got a Nintendo Switch for Christmas! 😱😁"

Stealth boast translation: we got her the Nintendo Switch, so we aren't thanking anyone but just want to show you all what good parents we are

GrinGrin

The only thing I find utterly ridiculous are people who follow or befriend people they don't like, they barely know and feel inferior to.

It must be quite amusing to have such a following and adding little details in every post to wind them up!

starcrossedseahorse · 27/12/2018 12:09

Couldn't you just see it as a thank you to people who gave their child a present?

Pogmella · 27/12/2018 12:11

starcrossed it was accompanied by the obligatory stash shot and tbh comes at the end of a year full of #blessed #lifeofaworkingmummy type posts

DarklyDreamingDexter · 27/12/2018 12:14

For people saying some posters are mean-spirited, it's all about context. To use a previous example of someone posting in first class and loving it. (Especially if not used to such luxuries.) Friends will probably think, "Good on you mate, fill your boots!"

Someone else might post "Isn't it annoying when the first class seats clash with your new Prada bag and shoes? I knew I should have worn the Armani ones!" (without a hint of irony) The likely reaction of many people reading something like that is "Twat!" (Except some MN'ers who are absolute saints and never have a sarcastic or judgemental thought or reaction - ever.)

WhatsUpHun · 27/12/2018 12:14

merrybloominchristmas This thread is one of the most mean spirited things i have ever read.

you must be new to mumsnet

thebaronetofcockburn · 27/12/2018 12:14

I love this thread! I go on social media just for the entertainment factor. The piles of presents are my favs. DH's sister bought her 9-year-old all manner of crazy expensive gifts and she rang my 13-year-old to tell her about it. Thankfully he refrained from telling her that her mother is in so much debt from living above her means the court will probably force her into bankruptcy this year so she's basically robbed creditors to buy expensive shit for her kid.

starcrossedseahorse · 27/12/2018 12:16

Darkly yes I get that. I think maybe it's because I am not on FB so don't see this stuff in that kind of context. Perhaps it's for the best!

starcrossedseahorse · 27/12/2018 12:17

But thebaronet how is that 'entertaining'? Surely that is just really sad?

Blackness78 · 27/12/2018 12:19

Notacluethisxmas You mentioning you are a people watcher, reminds me of a date I once went on. The guy in question was sat a little further up from where we were meeting (pub).

From where I was stood, I couldn't see him, but he could see me. Cue, ten minutes of me looking gormless and uncomfortable; only for him to say that he had seen me, but he was a 'people watcher' and wanted to see my reaction at being (supposedly) stood up. Grin

canigetaliein · 27/12/2018 12:20

ShotsFired 🤣🤣

thebaronetofcockburn · 27/12/2018 12:22

But thebaronet how is that 'entertaining'? Surely that is just really sad?

I wrote that social media was entertaining, star, not the phone call to my teenager Hmm. At any rate, I do agree, racking up debts to have a lifestyle you cannot afford and then bailing on your debts is extremely sad.

RoboticSealpup · 27/12/2018 12:25

I didn't realise having a cleaner was something people thought was worth of brag! How do you stand on central heating and running water then?

Sorry, @starcrossedseahorse, but this is actually the most Mumsnet comment ever...

TheMoleInAHole · 27/12/2018 12:28

How the hell is having a cleaner equivalent to basics such as running water and central heating?

starcrossedseahorse · 27/12/2018 12:30

Robotic it may well be a very MN comment but I didn't make it...Hmm

starcrossedseahorse · 27/12/2018 12:31

baronet apologies, I misunderstood your post.

e1y1 · 27/12/2018 12:31

Couldn't you just see it as a thank you to people who gave their child a present?

I could If the "it's 4pm and we've only just finished opening presents, son came down this MORNING (for the love of God, don't forget morning, some may think we started opening presents at 3:30pm) and said it was an avalanche (what child says this?)......

Teeandee · 27/12/2018 12:32

"When somebody is just as freaky as you in the bedroom #naughtyness" posted twice in one week.

Stealth boost translate: I'm great in bed

Cringe.

RoboticSealpup · 27/12/2018 12:32

TheMoleInAHole

Surely, every flat-sharing minimum wage earner in the country must have a cleaner? Grin Actually, that post was a brilliant example of a stealth boast. "I'm so wealthy that I can't even imagine anyone living without such basics. I mean... Who does their cleaning??"

starcrossedseahorse · 27/12/2018 12:33

Tee that makes me feel a bit ill! 'Freaky'...?

e1y1 · 27/12/2018 12:34

"When somebody is just as freaky as you in the bedroom #naughtyness" posted twice in one week

Vom Envy not cringe

RoboticSealpup · 27/12/2018 12:34

@starcrossedseahorse

You said that my post about having a cleaner but but telling people was the most Mumsnet comment ever. I thought the response to it was even more so.

Teeandee · 27/12/2018 12:34

@starcrossedseahorse

She's deadly serious, too.

It's a friend of a friend I know from a baby group. I can't believe anybody would want to broadcast anything like that to family and friends Sad
