To ask for the funniest stealth boasts you've seen on social media

GunpowderGelatine · 27/12/2018 00:11

My real life recent examples:

"About to hang up our Christmas cards onto the wall and gutted to find our stapler is crap, doesn't staple anything, argh!"

Stealth boast translation: look how popular we are

"I'm so sick of getting asked for ID, I just want to buy my gin without ratching for my drivers license, I'm 35 and a mother of three for goodness sake"

Stealth blast translation: I'm soooo young looking

"Wow Holly got a Nintendo Switch for Christmas! 😱😁"

Stealth boast translation: we got her the Nintendo Switch, so we aren't thanking anyone but just want to show you all what good parents we are

I don't understand how some people don't understand the difference between being rightly proud of something (e.g. Graduation) or enjoying a nice holiday and a nauseating faux 'woe is me' post which uses something like a stapler or a pile of designer carrier bags as props to say "Look at me! I'm richer and more popular than you!"

starcrossedseahorse · 27/12/2018 11:13

Wow there are some horrible posts on this thread. Some people are incredibly mean spirited aren't they?

Cantusethatname · 27/12/2018 11:14

My manager says "my team" and I always take it to mean she is supportive of us all and has our backs, which she has.

UnknownStuntman · 27/12/2018 11:17

Fishtank, as someone who has worked in the motor trade for a few years, I wouldn't take anyone mentioning a Range Rover as a stealth boast. I'd feel sorry for them for not being able to have a reliable car.

They're (along with most JLR product) renowned in the industry for being in workshops more than any other manufacturer.

canigetaliein · 27/12/2018 11:17

Some people have more than you some have less.Get over it

🤦🏼‍♀️ Some people really don’t get what stealth posts are.

Would IBU to say the posters accusing some of us of being jealous or killjoys love a bit of stealth posting? #hatersgonnahate

Cantusethatname · 27/12/2018 11:19

I'm not mean spirited, I don't wish anyone harm but I am realistic and just as I am not filled with joy when I see an acquaintance's child doing well etc I don't expect many people to feel the same about me.
And I agree that the charity boasters are nauseating, it should be illegal.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 27/12/2018 11:24

this is one of the many reasons I gave up with social media, MN aside.

no matter how inoffensive you think a post might be, you just know that someone somewhere is rolling their eyes and making a cat's bum face at it.

Billben · 27/12/2018 11:25

Multiple Alexa family must have a small house.

😂🤣😂🤣

SlowNorris · 27/12/2018 11:26

Why not start your own thread: ‘share your sweetest non-stealth boasting, yet slightly boastful but it doesn’t matter because I enjoy seeing things people are proud of and I’m not at all envious, social media posts’

And bore off this one.

I know which one I’d rather click on.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/12/2018 11:26

Actual boasting is fine. I don't mind people putting up a pic and saying "check me out in first class!" That's fine and makes me happy for them.

canigetaliein · 27/12/2018 11:27

If you are proud of an achievement eg passing your driving test, getting a degree or new job this is not stealth boasting.

Posting about a new Chanel bag, amazing holiday or 1st class tickets is not in itself stealth boasting.

Taking a photo of your coffee with your Chanel & first class tickets deliberately in the photo but not mentioned is stealth posting.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/12/2018 11:28

Stealth boasting isn't the same, I think it sometimes comes from insecurity but you can usually footbridge too.

Oldraver · 27/12/2018 11:29

I know someone who constantly posts pictures of his GF on a train in First Class of course. The pictures are odd in that she has to tilt her head to one side so we can see the First Class logo. No has ever mentioned it though

Lat week he had to post a video with ...there wasn't a First Class carriage and we had to sit among the drunken singers

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/12/2018 11:30

For "footbridge" read , " spot those" jeez it's hard to type in this top notch iPad that my best hubby got me especially with these diamond rings and new nail job... " Grin

JacquesHammer · 27/12/2018 11:31

I don't understand how some people don't understand the difference between being rightly proud of something (e.g. Graduation) or enjoying a nice holiday and a nauseating faux 'woe is me' post which uses something like a stapler or a pile of designer carrier bags as props to say "Look at me! I'm richer and more popular than you!"

And again I do, I just find innocuous posts on social media really hard to get riled by.

SerenDippitty · 27/12/2018 11:32

The funnny thing is you can upgrade to 1st class quite cheaply at the weekend so it’s not that big a deal.

GenerationSnowflake · 27/12/2018 11:33

For it to be SB (which this thread is making fun of), the post would need to have pretended to be about something else.

thank you.
Most of these examples clearly are not.

Some of us are happy to see lovely photos of friends and relatives, even if they are of luxury resorts and expensive jewellery, that's the main difference.

If I was friend with some of the posters here, I would post photoshopped photos all day long just to wind them up Grin

SushiMonster · 27/12/2018 11:33

Dang, the Lambo is in the garage getting a custom spray so carless again! Gonna be such a pain getting bubba to Eaton interview today.

Notmorewashing · 27/12/2018 11:34

#mr&mrs #flowersfromhubby #hubbycooked #holidaymode

Loads of cringe selfies with wine with the expensive label clearly in view

Pic every time there is a bunch of flowers

Pic of them on first class flight

I can’t understand how people can not see how cringe ! The whole instagram is them and also throwback to wedding pics every single week blerghh

flugelhorn811 · 27/12/2018 11:34

Totally agree with PPs - shameless boasting is fine in my book, it's the stealth boasting that drives me mad. Especially the ones that start with 'That awkward moment when...'.

SerenDippitty · 27/12/2018 11:34

For "footbridge" read , " spot those" jeez it's hard to type in this top notch iPad that my best hubby got me especially with these diamond rings and new nail job... " grin

I googled footbridge in case it was some new social media term I hadn’t heard of Grin

redcarbluecar · 27/12/2018 11:35

@Jacques - I don’t think anyone is riled, more amused at a particular style of social media posting.

redcarbluecar · 27/12/2018 11:37

One of my friends, who has sterling humblebragging form, has just posted ‘Not such a merry Christmas’ with a photo of a car on a tow truck - but added ‘thank goodness for our second family car!’ which made me smile.

Doraismissing · 27/12/2018 11:39

Constant fb posts from mum who posted that she was leaving fb as it was toxic who lasted 1 week without posting. One of the latest was about how dds school phoned her to say how fantastic dd was.

Jaxhog · 27/12/2018 11:39

The ones with the photos of the graduation ceremonies, class of degree included.

That's not a stealth boast. It's something to be genuinely proud of, surely?
