to think piercing of childrens ears should be banned

why why why would anyone want to do this to a three year old????? I went to a childrens party at the weekend, there was a lovely little girl there with the most awful blingy "diamond" earings pulling her ears down - ear piercing hurts, it is tantamount to child abuse IMO.

This is great we have one thread for giving ourselves labels (alhpa/slummy/spaghetti mummy etc) and one for our teenaged kids

funkimummy · 28/06/2007 14:30

Never heard of a townie! Ah I'm liking the acronym!!

Witchandchips - a spaghetti mummy?!?!?!?! I think I must have been living too long in the backwaters of the coutryside!

butterfly911 · 28/06/2007 14:35

no i agree with you i think its wrong to pierce a small childs ears. its painful why would ne 1 want their child to b in pain. i think when the child is older and if its what they want then ok

witchandchips · 28/06/2007 14:36

in another thread we had alpha mummys and then beta mummys and then alphabet mummys (all parenting styles of the alphabet) This became alphabet spaghetti mummys

we thought it was funny

sparklesandwine · 28/06/2007 14:36

OP posts:
sparklesandwine · 28/06/2007 14:41

can i just ask by the way what is an 'alpha mummy' and a 'beta mummy'?

lucyellensmum · 28/06/2007 14:42

the worse thing you can do is post, you can just about ignore it otherwise, but if you have posted something you get dragged back to see how many feathers you have ruffled.

funkimummy · 28/06/2007 14:45

sparklesandwine · 28/06/2007 14:49

thanks witchandchips

Manictigger · 28/06/2007 14:53

Yes Funki, I should be doing housework but after getting very little sleep last night am slumped in front of Mumsnet gazing resentfully at the sleeping baby on my lap.

Am trying not to look at controversial threads however because sleep deprivation tends to have the same effect on me as alcohol - I lose my patience more easily.

stops twitching fingers from replying to 'should I buy-to-let?' with 'yes if you're a selfish greedy twat who doesn't give a toss that first time buyers/key workers etc will never be able to afford to buy a home so long as you're ok Jack'

Sorry. Completely irrelevant. Will go and try to get some sleep.

lucyellensmum · 28/06/2007 15:05

its no good what is here, if there is something meaty at least i dont feel i have COMPLETELY wasted what free time i have scrolling hopefully through threads looking for trouble

lucyellensmum · 28/06/2007 15:07

oh i am at work today so i can lurk at leisure and think at least im not wasting MY time - he he

skay · 28/06/2007 15:17

O.K. So most of you think I'm a BAD Mummy!

I still don't care.
Report me to... MN towers for child abuse!

I'm still going to take my DD to have her ears pierced!!!!

lucyellensmum · 28/06/2007 15:24

skay i dont think that at all, you have cultural reasons behind your decision and i respect that

OP posts:
3andnomore · 28/06/2007 15:27

Skay, don't think anyone will report ya, lol!
Saying that, I am not in favour of ear piercings in young children....a lot of people here do it so very young, the Kids are still tiny Baby's, and that one really does make me shudder.
But other then the pain you would put onto a child, there are also other issues to consider...like the earing/stud could come out and be a possible choking hazzard (sp?) or the earing could get so easily ripped out, which doesn't look all that nice.
I am wiht those that say it's a decision the child should make when they are old enough.

I sometimes also wonder, what wiht all those acupuncture points in the ear, could that give one side effects? This doesn't just go for Kids, for adults, too, of course...

Manictigger · 28/06/2007 15:28

Provided you've considered the whole open-wound/babies having very immature immune systems/MRSA and other less dangerous germs being very common in general population issues, Good for you!
