to think piercing of childrens ears should be banned

why why why would anyone want to do this to a three year old????? I went to a childrens party at the weekend, there was a lovely little girl there with the most awful blingy "diamond" earings pulling her ears down - ear piercing hurts, it is tantamount to child abuse IMO.

and as too cooking......... lol. I know a certain someone is offended by MarsLady's LDC. I just can't let it lie!

lucyellensmum · 27/06/2007 15:39

blimey MamaD 2? oh bless its funny, i am soooooooo not girly - i have my ears peirced and i have tattoos. My DD1 is much like me, not very girly but precocious (shes 17yers) she has facial piercings and is desperate for a tattoo. (and now has a summer job which she insists she is going to start saving for, oh god!!) but my DD1 despite my efforts to not sexually stereotype her (i buy her trainsets and cars - he he) is a real girly girly girl and she isnt even two yet - bless her heart, she wants necklaces and frills and insists on looking in the mirror after i dress her every morning - who says its nurture over nature, but im not sure where she got her girly genes from - now theres a thread i might start, might be lest contentious, what do you think.

if you eat pizza or you are embracing part of someone else's culture, or noodles, or curry...

it is not just that your views seem racist, they are racist..not just a question of perception

so you had a miserable time being brought up in your own family;s cultural heritage, does not give you the right to tell other people to get back to their own countries.

lucyellensmum · 27/06/2007 15:47

UD I am just checking your profile as i know someone with their foot tatood ;)

To true LEM!

My dd is really girlie in regards to looks - she asks to wear dresses and ALWAYS wants to wear pink, but then runs outside and digs mud puddles, chases the dog, helps dh in the veggie patch and climbs everywhere. I end up putting her in jeans daily after numerous floaty skirt incidents.

I'm not girlie at all, I'm a soldier for crying out load and wear combats to work (!) but dd tells me "I'm a princess mummy" and likes to look in the mirror and say "oooh pretty girl" to herself.

I really dont know where she gets it from (the earrings thing is just because Nana's earrings were shiny and dangly - I hope).

lucyellensmum · 27/06/2007 15:48

oh, its not you lol

OP posts:
lucyellensmum · 27/06/2007 15:50

nah MamaD, shes going to grow up to be a ballerina - lmao

OP posts:
MamaD · 27/06/2007 15:56

Bloody hell I hope not. Not that I've got anything against ballerinas, it's just the constant watching their weight and standing on tip toes can't be healthy, surely? (God, not wanting to start another thread at all)

Maybe I'll make her a tutu out of my old combats - and fairy wings!

theUrbanDryad · 27/06/2007 16:00

LEM - you don't know me then?

lucyellensmum · 27/06/2007 16:01

never mind that MamaD, it can't be a healthy thing for your bank balance either, all those lessons and pink shoes. It could be worse though, she could decide she likes horses!

No - UD, not unless you have developed freckles, have ginger hair and have just had a baby ;)

OP posts:
theUrbanDryad · 27/06/2007 16:08

theUrbanDryad · 27/06/2007 16:17

dal21 · 27/06/2007 16:19

No...not at all UD! between you and LEM, you've saved it!

theUrbanDryad · 27/06/2007 16:21

bummer

Hopeitwontbebig · 27/06/2007 16:22

Personally I don't like it on very young girls, especially on babies.

I remember vividly having my ears pierced when I was 7, and it was a very exciting day for me. For me, I knew that it would hurt, I wanted it done, and I only wore discreet studs.

I'm expecting a little girl in September, I already have 2 boys. I don't know what age I'll let her have her ears pierced, probably not until she is at least 8 or 9, and then, like me, just tiny studs.

cathcart · 27/06/2007 16:27

urban 'and perhaps a notice up in places like Claire's saying "Ear piercing in a baby is more likely to get infected and causes a baby pain" or something' - nice thought but this is a high street retailer we are talking about ! targets targets targets!!

lazyemma -
'They might have felt sharp, but they wouldn't have been nearly as sharp as a surgical piercing needle, which is also hollow, so that it slices through the skin - rather than ripping/forcing its way through, which is how the stud gun works. Stud guns are also impossible to sterilise properly, leading to a higher risk of infection. Piercings from stud guns generally take longer to heal than piercings done by a properly trained body piercer, partly because of the higher risk of infection and partly because of the tissue damage a stud gun causes. '

agree with you here! My post was just in response to the 'blunt metal' comment! I am not pro earpiercing! Just giving my experience

laneydaye · 27/06/2007 16:28

I dont like o see it on young babies/toddlers (rather chavvy) certainly wouldnt let my dd2.6 have them done!! Think if the child decides they want it when they are old enough then i will certainly discuss it, dont you think if the child isnt old enough to decide then its a bit like abuse? forcing them to have a metal ring shot through their ear?

lucyellensmum · 27/06/2007 16:44

UD - sorry to disappear, had to attend to my RL - dont you just hate it when RL interferes with MN
