I've been told that is utterly ridiculous to spend that amount of money for that but I still love the jumper!

OP, they are both lovely. Such a great gift. Happy Christmas Xmas Smile

@RiddlyW I agree with you that this appears to be advertising and looks like a post designed to drive traffic to a particular website. It happens on social media all the time, so why not mumsnet.

SushiMonster · 19/12/2018 08:54

It’s a nice jumper and isn’t really a ‘Christmas’ jumper.

fruitbrewhaha · 19/12/2018 08:56

I love Anthropologie. So no, YANBU.

Do you buy all your friends Anthropologie clothes?

It's been too long OP, we must catch up

Pradababe · 19/12/2018 08:59

your money, your choice...

Is it likely to be available in January as a sale item ?

Enjoy it if you buy it!!

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/12/2018 09:00

Back view. Looks like granny knitted it too big!

Really not my thing at all. I like things, which fit preferably fitted.

I see plenty of other people the thread like it so if it’s appreciated and not bought as a surprise main present for your 14 yo, that’s fine.

nooddsocksforme · 19/12/2018 09:02

I quite like it but wouldn’t buy it. I think it’s such a marmite choice that it’s not a good present unless you know the recipients taste very well.
I bought a cardigan from Anthropologie tho that cost the same amount earlier in the year . I love it but probably lots of folk wouldn’t - I don’t care .

montenuit · 19/12/2018 09:02

YABU only because it'll be half price by the end of this week!

borntobequiet · 19/12/2018 09:03

Aargh that model (back view) looks like DD’s Sindy doll when her head got twisted round!

steppemum · 19/12/2018 09:06

I don't like either jumper.

The stripey one is a bit saggy, looks like it stretched in the wash, and being dry clean is just a 100% no from me. Although in principle a stripey coloured jumped is something I'd like, this one isn't it.

The Sequin on looks really frumpy to me. (maybe I'm not young enough to get away with it) It is also quite niche, when do you wear sequins? I wouldn't wear them during the day, and then in evening a jumper isn't my first choice...

So, I guess the point of all that is that you need to be pretty sure that you reipient will like it.
If you know it is just what they want, and you can afford it, then price is not the issue.
If you are guessing their taste, waste of money.

steppemum · 19/12/2018 09:07

stripey one also looks weird over the shoulders

Yinv · 19/12/2018 09:12

Look it’s your money and your decision what jumper to wear. If you can afford £118, then go for it.

steppemum · 19/12/2018 09:14

Yinv - but she isn't wearing it, it is for a gift

CarolsSecretCookieRecipe · 19/12/2018 09:31

I think it looks cheap, and doesn't fit very well.

ushuaiamonamour · 19/12/2018 09:40

If you think the person you're giving it to will be happy to get it, then fair play to you; it's a generous present. Don't know how well it's made, but given that it's mostly alpaca that's a fair price . You might let the recipient know that it's best handwashed (no rubbing or wringing, no long soaks--just gentle squeezing & swirling for a short time in warm water); jumpers with good yarns repay good treatment.

Crazyaboutdots · 19/12/2018 10:48

fruitbrewhaha OK! Let's go for a coffee to catch up haha Smile

A big thank you for all the answers!! Merry Christmas everyone!

Ps. Back to the shop tomorrow to exchange the stripes for the sequin-confetti-pullover 😜

Motoko · 19/12/2018 14:39

Well, at least the stripy one is mostly alpaca, a natural fibre, but the sequin one is all man made, so I really can't see how the price is justified, other than the name.

It's always dodgy buying clothes for someone as a gift. You need to know their size, and what fibres/fabrics they like to wear (and what they don't, lots of people won't wear things made from man made fibres/fabric), and you really need to be sure that they'll like it.

Maybe get a gift receipt and let the recipient know they can exchange it if they want to. Because if they don't like it, they're going to feel really bad that you've spent so much on a gift they don't like.

Would they prefer some candles from there instead? The Capri Blue Volcano is Anthro's signature scent that they use in their stores. It's very nice.

RhiWrites · 19/12/2018 14:46

I vastly prefer stripes to the sequins but I think it’s over priced. You know the gift recipient though, OP. I hope they love whatever you decide on.

3WildOnes · 19/12/2018 14:59

I really like the sequin one but I wouldn’t pay £118 for a Synthetic jumper. I would pay that much for wool or cashmere.

agedknees · 19/12/2018 15:04

How old is the recipient? I like that jumper.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 19/12/2018 15:20

Why would you go back and exchange it for the sequined one, when someone has already posted a link to a jumper which is almost identical, nicer infact, but costs just £20??

Or are you one of those people who needs everyone to know how much money they spend?

ChoctasticFantastic · 19/12/2018 15:30

I’m absolutely astonished at how many people like that stripey jumper. Does this mean it’s actually me that has terrible taste?!

RiddleyW · 19/12/2018 15:32

Maybe it means not everyone has the same taste?

RiddleyW · 19/12/2018 15:33

It’s a thinker though isn’t it?

BobDobbs · 19/12/2018 16:52

I quite like the sequin one but not at that price. The asos one looks like a much better deal.
