I've been told that is utterly ridiculous to spend that amount of money for that but I still love the jumper!

Not at all

DH wears a particular brand of jumper (Schoffel) £100-£150ish price point. They wear and wash brilliantly - it is what he likes, so that is what he gets. He'd rather have 3-4 nice jumpers than a pile of cheap ones.

As long as you can afford it then how on earth can it be an issue?

If you have sold the family silver to pay for it then yes, YABVU.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 19/12/2018 17:02

I can't criticise anyone for spending a fortune at Anthropologie. That shop's my Achilles heel.

That jumper looks like it'll shrink though. What are the care instructions?

Someone earlier in the thread said it was dry clean only!

ErrolTheDragon · 20/12/2018 09:11

Looks like granny knitted it too big!

Yes... from leftover wools which didn't really go with each other at all.

I used to knit when I was a student in the 80s and it looks like the sort of style (ie very simple) which would be dead easy but I'd have used nicer colours.

supersop60 · 20/12/2018 11:31

To answer your original question. If you love something and you know you are going to wear it a lot, then £118 is worth it.
Personally - alpaca would make me itch, so I wouldn't bother.
I do like stripes, though.

neveradullmoment99 · 20/12/2018 11:32

How is the striped one festive?

neveradullmoment99 · 20/12/2018 11:34

I dont like either. The striped one is not very nice colours. The confetti one looks like a cheap jumper out of asda. Neither are worth it. Much much nicer jumpers out there.

Hoppinggreen · 20/12/2018 11:36

Spend what you want as long as you can afford it but don’t Bragg about it on here. It’s crass and insensitive

Notwiththeseknees · 20/12/2018 11:37

That is one fugly jumper Confused I'd be quietly (and politely) gutted to receive that!

Limensoda · 20/12/2018 11:40

It's your money so you do what you like with it.
You've already done it so there's no point in asking if you should have.

Ellisandra · 20/12/2018 11:45

Definitely granny-knitted!

I always think the first question should be “would I buy it for a fiver in Asda?”. If no, then you’re being seduced into thinking it’s lovely by the price and brand.

Beyond that - if you like it and can afford it, then whatever - your choice.

Onehellofaride · 20/12/2018 11:46

YANBU to buy it. Personally I don’t like the jumper but I’ve paid £120 for a Ralph Lauren jumper for DH for Christmas.

Villanellesproudmum · 20/12/2018 11:48

Anybody else had to google esoteric? Probably just me Grin

Christmasisforadults2 · 20/12/2018 11:50

Love it and if you've got the money go for it and enjoy.
I wear my Christmas jumpers in February if I'm cold. And starry in October Grin

mel71 · 21/12/2018 17:30

The striped Anthropologie jumper is half price on eBay. Always check eBay first...

KirstiiieA · 21/12/2018 17:33

I think both look nice and it’s worth spending the money for good quality items!

Poloshot · 21/12/2018 17:35

If you want it and can afford it then take no notice of the 'I shop at primark so you must wear shit too' crew

Sunflowersforever · 21/12/2018 17:38

Adding to what others are saying. Your money so do as you please.

I know people who will spend that much on smoking over Christmas and New Year, or on cocktails. Who is to say what’s a waste and what isn’t. All relative.

lilybetsy · 21/12/2018 17:38

I hope you haven't bought it for me !

Lovemusic33 · 21/12/2018 17:39

I doesn’t look like a Christmas jumper. I wouldn’t spend that much on a jumper for a gift as you don’t know if the recipient will even like it? If it was for yourself then I think it’s fine, lots of people on here spend that much on shoes or a handbag (but not me). I think the jumpers ok, I would wear it but wouldn’t pay the price tag myself.

WilburforceRaven · 21/12/2018 17:40

I don't like it, but it's your money, spend it as you like. Why do you need to justify it?

category12 · 21/12/2018 17:41

www.anthropologie.com/en-gb/shop/festive-striped-jumper This one?

Cardiganqueen71 · 21/12/2018 17:41

I’ve looked it up. It’s not to my taste but on the right person it would look great. I wouldn’t think anything of spending 118 quid on a jumper so don’t feel like you have to ask for permission.

Petalflowers · 21/12/2018 17:42

Love it.

If you can afford it, no problem. If you can’t afford it, then not good.

category12 · 21/12/2018 17:42

Oh doh, why am I even on this thread? RTFT, category12.
