To ask what we have to look forward to after March 29th 2019

It turns out Theresa May’s definition of ‘soverignity and democracy’ is to postpone a democratic vote, not allow anyone except her to change their mind and generally run to clock down until her deal is the only option.

So what do people think about that?

What are the benefits we have to look forward to when we leave the EU given it turns out ‘they don’t actually need is more than we need them’ after all?

What are we doing this for?

(And for those who want to ignore Brexit, don’t read this thread. Equally, this is the biggest thing this country has ever faced in most of our generation so please don’t banish this to the Brexit section)

An end to all these goadie fucker threads....

summer what is goady about asking what the benefits of Brexit are?

OP posts:
ChristmasTwatteryDoesMyHeadIn · 18/12/2018 20:08

I find it very hard to believe that no Leave voters have come across this thread, which leads me to believe (especially given the aggression towards OP) that they’ve realised they’ve fucked up.

caddywally · 18/12/2018 20:09

Was there anything EU-related that you were particularly looking forward to? I can't think of anything to look forward to after Brexit, but equally I wouldn't be able to think of anything to look forward to if we were to stay in the EU (other than the usual things that I will look forward to regardless of our EU status).

Bearbehind · 18/12/2018 20:13

But leaving the EU was supposed to be the answer to all our ills.

So surely there should be at least 1 thing we can absolutely say we can look forward to, that will improve our lives, that couldn’t have happened whilst in the EU.

We know the downside is that we’ll all be worse off, we’ll have less access to EU products and just generally more hassle - the government isn’t even attempting to deny that anymore.

What compensates for that?

OP posts:
BlackeyedGruesome · 18/12/2018 20:15

Why accusations of being goady? It is the main story in the news. It is looking like no deal is getting more likely. Money is being spent on no deal preparations and on trying to make the deal work. What a waste of fucking money.

Disquieted1 · 18/12/2018 20:19

We can intervene to support British industry without falling foul of EU State Aid rules.

1981m · 18/12/2018 20:20

It will encourage us to shop local I guess and loose our love of having all fruit and veg imported throughout the year no matter the season?

Bearbehind · 18/12/2018 20:20

Which industries are you referring to disquieted?

And what can we do that the EU prevented us from doing?

OP posts:
80sMum · 18/12/2018 20:20

I'm afraid I can't envisage anything positive coming as a result of Brexit. It all looks rather gloomy to me: higher prices; inflation; public spending cuts to name but a few.

I think this rift in our nation between the Leavers and the Remainers could be with us for a long time to come, sadly. If we leave the EU, anything bad will be deemed to be the Leavers' fault. If we don't leave, the Leavers will feel betrayed and ignored and there could be civil unrest as a result. It seems to me that we're all caught between a rock and a hard place. Sad

ChristmasTwatteryDoesMyHeadIn · 18/12/2018 20:21

And what can we do that the EU prevented us from doing?

I’m curious about the answers to this question. Genuinely would like to know.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 18/12/2018 20:21

but every racist voted Leave

Thats not true

recently · 18/12/2018 20:22

Depends if it's after May's WA or a No Deal. If the latter, then potentially:

  • losing my job
  • not being able to pay my mortgage
  • not being able to live in the same country as my family
Whoop - a - dee- doo - da.
SummerGems · 18/12/2018 20:22

what is goady about asking what the benefits of Brexit are? because this thread has been done a hundred times already.

Because you started out by attacking other posters and went so far as to accuse them of having an involvement by virtue of their usernames.

Because it is blatantly obvious from the outset that you’re spoiling for a fight.

I voted remain and while it is clear that there are some issues relating to A, the deal, and B, us leaving the EU, the reality is that the world is genuinely not going to cease turning on the 31st of March, and anyone who genuinely believes that they will have nothing to look forward to after the 31st of March needs to start looking a bit closer to home for the answers to that.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 18/12/2018 20:23

Not being part of the EU army. Not being part of a profoundly undemocratic organisation. Not being part of an increasingly federalist organisation. Not being part of an organisation that is increasingly allowing extremist politics to flourish.

Bearbehind · 18/12/2018 20:23

Ok, rufus, every racist that voted, voted Leave.

OP posts:
Marmite27 · 18/12/2018 20:24

I’m a bit sad they chose this date, it’s my 5th wedding anniversary.

Canibuildasnowman · 18/12/2018 20:25

I’ll be hugging my Irish passport a little tighter and hoping Westminister doesn’t manage to fuck up my country with a pissing border none of us want or need and re-ignite a bloody conflict that we’re still healing from.

ChristmasTwatteryDoesMyHeadIn · 18/12/2018 20:25

There isn’t an EU army? There’s NATO, but no specific EU army.

Bearbehind · 18/12/2018 20:25

veni could you use actual examples rather than soundbites.

summer, I’ve repeatedly explained my thread title wasn’t literal. I’m asking what will be better as a result of leaving the EU.

OP posts:
SummerGems · 18/12/2018 20:26

So, given your attacks on russiawithlove, it would be correct to assume that you voted leave then? Given you appear to be a racist?

yolofish · 18/12/2018 20:27

I cannot think of anything to look forward to if we leave with No Deal.

Yes, the sun will still continue to rise etc, but my DH probably wont get his cancer treatment (radio isotopes being prone to declining within hours so if they are stuck on the M20 they aint going to do him much good).

I'm not really looking forward to the troops being on the streets to keep us plebs in line either, nor to spending £2bn on planning for a disaster we could just walk away from.

ChristmasTwatteryDoesMyHeadIn · 18/12/2018 20:27

Canibuildasnowman I’m worried about that and I’m Scottish, it must be horrendously frightening for you.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 18/12/2018 20:28

bear

Soundbites?

So which of those do you think is wrong?

Bearbehind · 18/12/2018 20:28

summer RTFT

I voted Remain.

If you haven’t heard about the link between the Leave vote winning and Russian involvement you might want to google it.

I got it wrong with that particular poster but it doesn’t change the bigger picture.

OP posts:
ChristmasTwatteryDoesMyHeadIn · 18/12/2018 20:29

VeniVidiWeeWee I didn’t respond to your initial post because I felt it was vague. None of it explains why you dislike the EU so it’s hard to reply, because it’s all fairly vague one liners if that makes sense.
