To ask what we have to look forward to after March 29th 2019

It turns out Theresa May’s definition of ‘soverignity and democracy’ is to postpone a democratic vote, not allow anyone except her to change their mind and generally run to clock down until her deal is the only option.

So what do people think about that?

What are the benefits we have to look forward to when we leave the EU given it turns out ‘they don’t actually need is more than we need them’ after all?

What are we doing this for?

(And for those who want to ignore Brexit, don’t read this thread. Equally, this is the biggest thing this country has ever faced in most of our generation so please don’t banish this to the Brexit section)

I think the lack of answers is telling.

I think the lack of answers is telling

Indeed.

But why would people, who can’t even convince themselves of the upside to this, choose to still support It?

Why is the immediate reaction always to deflect from the discussion or to try and make it go away?

No idea, stubbornness,

ChristmasTwatteryDoesMyHeadIn · 18/12/2018 19:35

Not , it was meant to be ?

JustanotherCHRISTMASuser01 · 18/12/2018 19:40

We have the delights of paying more for most things not travelling as easy and loosing money off our property...

sleepingdragon · 18/12/2018 19:43

I admit I'm biased as I still hope brexit will be cancelled. My mum (who did vote remain but now feels we need to unite behind leaving) is looking forward to everyone only being able to eat UK grown seasonal food so becoming more in touch with nature, people having less money for stuff so becoming less of a throwaway culture and also an increase in people growing their own food. She refuses to think through how this vision of the future will affect anyone not in the same position as her (has a garden and at least 3 of each household item due to mild hoarding tendencies and a refusal to get rid of anything after her parents and in-laws died).

ThisCoolBean · 18/12/2018 19:44

Anyone seen this trailer for an HBO film called ‘Brexit’?

Bearbehind · 18/12/2018 19:45

It is utter madness that there’s not one sensible benefit isn’t it?

MiddlingMum · 18/12/2018 19:45

I'm a staunch Remainer, and am furious with Leavers.

However, the world will still turn, the days will get warmer and sunnier, trees will come into leaf, flowers will bloom and the local river will have ducklings and cygnets. I don't believe in the Doomsday scenarios being predicted, although no doubt there will be problems for everyone.

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 18/12/2018 19:46

I voted Leave OP ...I cannot give you any answers.I can give you my best guess though..I would think we would move on to WTO rules. This will without a doubt cost the country a lot of money initially,no doubt about that.I do not hold with project fear though that medicines will dry up and motorways which will be turned into car parks etc.I think we are an exceptionally rich nation and a major trading partner so it would seem that deals will need to be done and want to be done with UK plc.The trade issue might be a bit of a bumpy road but it works equally.I am astounded by the complete mess in delivery of the whole brexit debarcale from all parties though. The lies peddled by both sides stink.I still think it will all be ok in the long run.I am looking forward to seeing how it will all pan out,I was asking my mum the other day (who voted to go in to the EU way back when we joined in the first place) how we went on then and she couldnt really answer me factually as apparently there was not the barrage of media coverage back then so she couldnt compare.I am confident in the trade though, they need us as much as we need them. The only thing I do know is that the thing that makes the world go round rightly or wrongly is money and we have plenty and so do they despite what they say!I am not so worried about it all...I look forward to seeing how it all pans out though once the politicians stop behaving like muppets and the day finally comes and goes...then the real work will start and we get an end to the white noise and stupid posturing going on now .

Bearbehind · 18/12/2018 19:49

So nothing tangible to look forward to then sally other than ‘seeing what happens’ whilst acknowledging it’s going to ‘cost the country a lot of money’

I accept the apology Bearbehind. I'm not one to hold a grudge but I'm in two minds to name change.

It just seems to happen on Brexit threads which is quite scary. I just hope it is not an indicator of what my family
will endure in this country in the future. Up to now we have felt safe here.

ChristmasTwatteryDoesMyHeadIn · 18/12/2018 19:54

Money is going to be a huge issue, not for those who have it obviously, but for those already struggling I can’t see it getting better.
The EU also has a huge part in employment terms and conditions, which concerns me when they’re no longer able to temper the Tories.

Bearbehind · 18/12/2018 19:54

TBH russia, I think it’s a sad fact that this came about because of an intolerance to anyone with a foreign accent or name.

Many people are already feeling the effects of that.

I wrongly assumed you were a Russian bot posting propaganda / shutting down debate, but that’s nothing to do with racism.

I voted Remain, the racists voted Leave.

And before I get jumped on again, not every leave voter is racist, but every racist voted Leave.

Op what are you complaining about? Hold onto the edge of your seat because in the late 2050s we'll all start to see the benefit of Brexit.

StealthPolarBear · 18/12/2018 20:00

Sorry 2060s. Postpone the party a little

StealthPolarBear · 18/12/2018 20:00

"Life will go on, the earth will not spontainiously combust and we will all be ok"
Most of us will live through it true. Most of us will be slightly less OK than before. A few will be screwed.

Bearbehind · 18/12/2018 20:00

Fab - I’ll mainly be dead by then 😂

OP posts:
ChristmasTwatteryDoesMyHeadIn · 18/12/2018 20:00

StealthPolarBear going by life expectancy in Glasgow I’ll be bloody dead by then, trust me to miss a party Grin

SummerGems · 18/12/2018 20:01

An end to all these goadie fucker threads....

ChipsAreLife · 18/12/2018 20:01

Are you genuinely saying post brexit you will have no joy in your life? At all?

StealthPolarBear · 18/12/2018 20:01

And if your bar for everything being OK is the earth not spontaneously combusting, you must be rarely disappointed.

StealthPolarBear · 18/12/2018 20:02

Sorry op. Maybe a little pre cenebratoon in the 2040s for you. Toast your grandchildren.

StealthPolarBear · 18/12/2018 20:05

A new baby shark song

Bearbehind · 18/12/2018 20:05

No chips I’m not.

As I said, my thread title is being taken a little to literally.

I’m asking what we have to look forward to that required us to leave the EU.

And so far the resounding answer is a great big fuck all.
