To ask what we have to look forward to after March 29th 2019

It turns out Theresa May’s definition of ‘soverignity and democracy’ is to postpone a democratic vote, not allow anyone except her to change their mind and generally run to clock down until her deal is the only option.

So what do people think about that?

What are the benefits we have to look forward to when we leave the EU given it turns out ‘they don’t actually need is more than we need them’ after all?

What are we doing this for?

(And for those who want to ignore Brexit, don’t read this thread. Equally, this is the biggest thing this country has ever faced in most of our generation so please don’t banish this to the Brexit section)

OP posts:
icannotremember · 19/12/2018 16:45

I don’t understand the argument
Colour me fucking surprised

ChristmasTwatteryDoesMyHeadIn · 19/12/2018 16:48

Will you let me in as a refugee from Brexitland please?

There’s a gif on Twitter whenever an English person asks that question. It’s a boiling kettle, meaning “come on up, the kettle’s on”. So aye, come on up, the kettle's on!

Only thing is, it does rather put a pin in the “but Scottish nationalists are so anti English” bullshit argument. Which is nice, because it’s bullshit, it’s not England we hate. It’s westminster.

ChristmasTwatteryDoesMyHeadIn · 19/12/2018 16:52

The irony is, that having read back over the thread, the Leave voters seem to think that

Trade will be better without being part of a trade agreement

The Tories will invest in U.K. industry without those pesky regulations

Immigrants will all fuck off apart from the “useful” ones because they are prepared to tolerate being hated and slated and attacked by so many that they’ll be doffing their caps in gratitude.

That “short term pain” is worth it, said by pretty much nobody who is really going to suffer.

And that the EU (thinly veiled disgust for foreigners usually evident) won’t be the boss of us any more yay!

And blue passports, made in France.

God if it wasn’t so awful it would be funny.

DoctorTwo · 19/12/2018 17:26

@Justanotherlurker Krugman is talking about the US/Canada border. Comparing it to UK/Europe is like comparing apples to oranges.

WinterfellWench · 19/12/2018 17:45

@Middlingmum

I'm a staunch Remainer, and am furious with Leavers.

Why are you not FURIOUS with the people who did not vote?

Like virtually HALF of people under 30.

THEY are the ones your anger and FURY should be directed at, not the people who voted to leave.

I am FURIOUS with Remoaners who have been frantically trying to derail Brexit for the past 2.5 years. (And failing LOL!)

'No deal Brexit' is what I am wishing and hoping and praying for now.

THAT will fuck off the controlling and bullying EU good and proper. Grin

UnnecessaryFennel · 19/12/2018 17:45

ChristmasTwattery - I'm heading up to Scotland first thing tomorrow to see dp's family for a few days - I love the place and genuinely can't wait until we can move there ourselves. Put the kettle on for me Grin

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 19/12/2018 18:20

Like a pp, if there is no deal on March the 30th I will

Lose my job
Lose my house
Lose my only pension
Lose access to healthcare
Be unable to live in the same country as my husband and children

But hey
This is Mumsnet, where the day isn't complete without a healthy dose of hysteria.

Helmetbymidnight · 19/12/2018 18:21

But don’t forget, it’s not the fault of the people who voted for it. Hmm

yolofish · 19/12/2018 18:25

The only down side to Scotland is the weather (softy southerner here).

Just discovered DD2 is going to Andorra on 29th March - it would be lovely to think I might see her again after that date...

ForalltheSaints · 19/12/2018 18:27

I have forgotten the one good thing about Brexit, which is the case whether a deal or not. There will be 22 people elected as UKIP MEPs out of job.

FilthyforFirth · 19/12/2018 18:36

I've only read the first page but love that people are still deluding themselves over trade. Yes, as the negotiations have shown so far, everyone is clearly queuing up to trade with us.

I have to begrudgingly admire leavers who insist such nonsense to be true while ALL the evidence so far points otherwise.

There is nothing to look forward to.

HTH.

F1ame · 19/12/2018 18:38

I’m yet to speak to s Brexiteer who can name one EU law that was interfering with their life. Actually, I’ve yet to meet a Brexiteer who could name an EU law full stop. Did anyone even give what goes on in Brussels before all the hype around this vote. I did hear one person on a bus explaining that, “the EU makes us have more expensive and powerful vacuum cleaners.” Grin So there you go OP, you will have the option to buy a vacuum with warmer suction.

I’m absolutely baffled as to the point if Brexit, but some seem to be hell bent on it at all costs, even to the financial ruin of the nation, like lemmings off a cliff.

Can SOMEONE please explain how this is in anybody’s interests please? Our house price has already dropped £250K since September. And it hasn’t even happened yet.

F1ame · 19/12/2018 18:39

A vacuum with weaker suction! (Sorry OP).

icannotremember · 19/12/2018 18:46

Why are you not FURIOUS with the people who did not vote?

Tbh, I am generally more unhappy with people who have done something shitty than with the people who stood by and did not prevent it. Yes, the second group should have tried to stop it- that does not make the guilt of the first group any less.

Fucking brexiteers. You won, get over it. You're going to have to own it some time.

WinterfellWench · 19/12/2018 19:07

@icannotremember

Yeah I thought as much.

FURIOUS with the people who voted for BREXIT - but not the people who could not be arsed to vote at all.

Fucking pathetic, cherry picking your UTTER RAGE! ..... This is just one thing (of many!) that highlights the ignorance and stupidity of some Remoaners.

Moussemoose · 19/12/2018 19:26

I think apathy is is not as bad as actively getting involved.

This is reflected in our laws in the U.K.

If you are actively involved in fight or a car accident then you are judged more harshly by the law than someone who watches and walked away.

So being more angry at people who voted leave than people who were apathetic does not "highlight the ignorance and stupidity of some Remoaners".

It would be more accurate to say it is the way we - as a society - react to apathy. Therefore, to call remainers who are angry "fucking pathetic" does demonstrate a lack of understanding of society's norms.

UnnecessaryFennel · 19/12/2018 19:35

Oh look, winterfell is back, staggering under the weight of her undergrad degree, her masters and her vast salary (it's probably 3 times as much as yours, you know).

I'll ask you again - why should Remainers be angry at people that didn't vote?

Unless, of course, you're saying that those people would have voted Remain, and therefore Remain would have won, and therefore Brexit probably isn't actually the will of the people.

Is that what you're suggesting?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/12/2018 19:41

Like virtually HALF of people under 30

Ill post it again

The results found that 64% of those young people who were registered did vote, rising to 65% among 25-to-39-year-olds and 66% among those aged between 40 and 54. It increased to 74% among the 55-to-64 age group and 90% for those aged 65 and over. It is thought that more than 70% of young voters chose to remain in the EU

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/12/2018 19:44

(it's probably 3 times as much as yours, you know)

Wouldnt be hard in my case

I only earn £190 a month Grin

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/12/2018 19:45

fennel

Excellent point Grin

UnnecessaryFennel · 19/12/2018 19:45

C'mon rufus, we know that in Brexiteer Maths 36% is almost certainly nearly half. Probably.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/12/2018 19:47

Again fair point fennel

Just getting a bit fed up with that particular statistic and im sure ive said that three times on this thread alone

Moussemoose · 19/12/2018 19:50

Oh wow if someone earns more than me that makes them correct automatically. I withdraw any negative comments that I have made about people who earn more than me.

Not.

UnnecessaryFennel · 19/12/2018 19:51

It's tiring, isn't it? Still, never mind, I reckon we've probably only got another 10 or 15 years of this shit [wails]

Bearbehind · 19/12/2018 20:10

This is soul destroying.

How on earth can people be expected to ‘get behind’ Brexit when even those who support it spectularly fail in even beginning to assert its benefits - on account of the fact there aren’t any benefits.
