As I am lost in an fog of confusion! So many cars! Which car do you drive? Would you recommend it? I have 4 dcs but the eldest is an adult at uni and two others are teens. Any suggestions?

Pay attention to mpg and Road Fund licence for larger cars

My daughters mil has a diesel galaxy and is horrified at the poor mpg.

I drive a diesel Kia and been very pleased with it

MrsBungle · 17/12/2018 19:24

Hyundai ix35 which I like.

Grace212 · 17/12/2018 19:25

mini cooper drivers, how do you find it for visibility?

I'm planning to return to driving after a 15 year break Shock

had a Micra before.

Peugeot 308 and it's terrible! The only good thing is that it has a huge boot!

LBOCS2 · 17/12/2018 19:30

Volvo XC90. Love it, we have 3 children, two in car seats - there's plenty of room, and the two 'extra' seats in the boot are big enough for good sized adults to be comfortable.

ForalltheSaints · 17/12/2018 19:32

None. Living in London we have these things called trains and buses. Apparently rare outside London and Manchester.

MrsStrowman · 17/12/2018 19:34

I have a tiny little Suzuki swift no good for your needs, but PIL have just bought a 2018 Mazda CX 5 and it's lovely , very roomy, nice to drive, huge boot, if you decide a five seater is appropriate

MadamePeony · 17/12/2018 19:37

Just purchased a Skoda Karoq for dog and impending baby! Absolutely love it. Can't fault Skoda x

cadburysflake · 17/12/2018 19:41

Peugeot 5008, 7 seater suv, if you ignore the brand (my husband had massive issues with buying a French car because of their reputation) it's a brilliant car. The rear seats can fit adults as all the seats adjust individually. Loads of boot space with the rear seats completely removed and the middle seats folded down for moving stuff between home and uni too.

We love it! A bit ££ as they only came out earlier this year.

Grace212 I find visibility fine in mine. They have got bigger over the years. I've gone from a focus to this and it's great.
I considered the countryman which is bigger again but the inside of the cooper is spacious enough for me and 2 children in car seats.

Grace212 · 17/12/2018 19:47

thank you seashells

Donthugmeimscared · 17/12/2018 19:49

Three children aged 8 10 and 13 and I have a Renault Clio it only has 2 doors so it's quite cosy

JadziaSnax · 17/12/2018 19:49

Peugeot 207 and it's tiny. Had it for 5 years and it's been a great little car. The boot is really tiny though.

Flashinggreen · 17/12/2018 19:50

I have a Kia sorrento which I like a lot.

Oldraver · 17/12/2018 19:52

Ford Fiesta ST, we only have one pre-teen so suitable for us.

We have had three pre-teens in the back and they just fit, anyone older or bigger would be a squeeze

Torvi · 17/12/2018 19:53

Land Rover Discovery Sport. Love it.

Chocolate1984 · 17/12/2018 19:57

Ford C-Max with the 1L eco boost engine. Website says something like 50mpg reality is 32. Tank of petrol costs around £74 and only gets 360 miles. Our previous car was a VW Golf which managed 530 miles per £70 tank of fuel.

Slow, expensive, dull and can’t wait to get rid of it- only had it 4 months. It has put me off buying another Ford.

LittleScottieDog · 17/12/2018 19:58

Vauxhall Meriva. I love Vauxhall cars, just switched a Corsa for it, they're lovely to drive.

chipsnmayo · 17/12/2018 19:59

Ford Focus 2005 (well it is unofficially DD's car now as I brought myself a Mini Cooper)

The Ford Focus is pretty roomy, decent size boot and can easily fit 5 people in. Honestly one of the best car's I have ever had.

chipsnmayo · 17/12/2018 19:59

^Although to add it's only me and a teenage DD

GreyHare · 17/12/2018 19:59

Golf GTI, but I have no kids, just a couple of dogs that fit nicely in the boot.

Doodlebug5 · 17/12/2018 20:00

Bmw1 series
Oh has a bmw 2 series which is a nice car

AlletrixLeStrange · 17/12/2018 20:00

BMW 320d sport and probably am a typical BMW driver Grin but yes I would recommend it as it's really easy for the kids to climb in and out of, very spacious and it goes pretty fast which is very fun!

Celebelly · 17/12/2018 20:00

We have a pretty new Kia Sportage which we both really love. We also have a Peugeot 308 which is fine for a second car, although we plan to replace it soon as my DP wants his beloved saloon car back 🙄

19lottie82 · 17/12/2018 20:01

I’ve got a VW Golf GTD which I love. It’s very economical and great fun to drive.
The general rule when buying cars is Japanese / Korean are great, and French are shit.
