DPD driver stole money from my porch - AIBU?

I left £190 in cash under a plant pot in my porch for a delivery of logs today while i took the dogs for a quick toilet trip (15 mins). I live out in the sticks and no one has any reason to be on my property unless they are delivering something.
My neighbour saw the delivery driver behaving suspiciously, spending far longer than needed at my door and lifting up the pot in question.
My parcel was then put in a weird place next to a drain.
When I got back 5 mins later the money was gone.
OK I know it is not a secure place and I certainly won't be doing it again, but I live in a tiny little village with no through traffic.
I am trying to report to the police, but DPD are not interested.
AIBU to expect them to question the driver?

Yes, I would expect them to

JustanotherCHRISTMASuser01 · 14/12/2018 17:08

But what proof do you have? That somehow a neighbour didn't see you put it there or something?

7yo7yo · 14/12/2018 17:09

Tell them
You’ve got CCTV and will be passing it on to police and posting in social media.

Snorkers · 14/12/2018 17:11

Yes I know - i did not see him in the act, but it doesn't look good for the driver.
My neighbour would not do it - he is old, rich and semi disabled.

I'd absolutely call the police! Hopefully the thought of police involvement will scare the driver into returning the cash

Jimdandy · 14/12/2018 17:17

If you’ve got a witness then the police should prosecute

NewbornBaby · 14/12/2018 17:22

Why would you leave money in your porch under a plant pot? And that much money too...?!

You could report it but it probably won't go anywhere without proof... accept it's gone and don't be so daft again.

And what if it wasn't the driver... he could lose his job over nothing...

Allthewaves · 14/12/2018 17:23

You have no proof dpd dri we took it unless neighbour makes a statement

Confusedbeetle · 14/12/2018 17:24

Unfortunate you were so trusting but sadly you have to take responsibility for this. It will be your word against his

CryingMessFFS · 14/12/2018 17:25

Your neighbour seems to know a lot. Could it have been them?

CryingMessFFS · 14/12/2018 17:25

You say that he’s old etc but honestly it’s usually the least ‘likely’

Shockers · 14/12/2018 17:26

No- phone the police and ask them to fingerprint the pot!

Why should people think they can take something just because it’s there? Don’t give up- the driver did wrong!

LoobyLou1976 · 14/12/2018 17:26

Sounds as though he left the parcel in a weird place so that he could claim he was never even in your porch. I would absolutely call the police and I'm outraged on your behalf. You should be able to leave money wherever the heck you like in your own home! Call DPD and say you have CCTV footage, and if they don't immediately conduct a driver interview you are going to the Press (eg Daily Mail) with the footage and posting all over social media.

CryingMessFFS · 14/12/2018 17:27

It’s crap but definitely report it, as for the DPD driver it’ll be your word against his and there’s no proof it was them unfortunately. It’s shit but no actual proof means the police can’t do anything really

Shockers · 14/12/2018 17:28

I live in the sticks with two elderly neighbours; I can fully imagine the scenario you describe. We hardly ever lock our doors.

Spieluhr · 14/12/2018 17:28

I'd be more suspicious of my neighbour personally.

KitKat1985 · 14/12/2018 17:30

Just tell DPD you are reporting it to the police. Although they have limited evidence with which to prosecute on.

But leaving £190 in cash unattended under a plant pot is mad, no matter how rural you are. Sorry.

diddl · 14/12/2018 17:30

I'm not sure what DPD could do though?

DeepanKrispanEven · 14/12/2018 17:32

Confusedbeetle, how can it be OP's word against the driver's when there's an independent witness? Plus there may well be fingerprints.

BoebePhuffay · 14/12/2018 17:34

Don’t bother with DPD. Just report to the police and let them investigate.

Guiltypleasures001 · 14/12/2018 17:36

DPD are shit our stole a new iPhone, it's still not sorted out, even though it was activated and used for two months and we were paying for it.

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 14/12/2018 17:36

Would your neighbour not have to be awfully close in order to be able to see someone inside your porch and exactly what they were touching?

I know it’s not impossible but seems a bit convenient that the neighbour saw something so specific.

cheesywotnots · 14/12/2018 17:37

Was the money left out for a different delivery or was it for the logs, how did the DPd driver know where it was. The police can sort it out for you.

Heartofglass21 · 14/12/2018 17:37

This is a police matter. It's a shame you don't have CCTV.

KlutzyDraconequus · 14/12/2018 17:37

With how stretched the police are I'd be surprised if they gave a monkeys to be honest.
You left money in a place easily accessible by any one.
The dpd driver can just say there was no money.
Can you prove you put it there?
Can you prove how much it was?
Can you prove the driver took it?
