DPD driver stole money from my porch - AIBU?

I left £190 in cash under a plant pot in my porch for a delivery of logs today while i took the dogs for a quick toilet trip (15 mins). I live out in the sticks and no one has any reason to be on my property unless they are delivering something.
My neighbour saw the delivery driver behaving suspiciously, spending far longer than needed at my door and lifting up the pot in question.
My parcel was then put in a weird place next to a drain.
When I got back 5 mins later the money was gone.
OK I know it is not a secure place and I certainly won't be doing it again, but I live in a tiny little village with no through traffic.
I am trying to report to the police, but DPD are not interested.
AIBU to expect them to question the driver?

I find this very odd.

I have several deliveries a day atm, all delivery drivers are over worked, overstretched and struggling with a heavy workload.

They all simply want to drop and go to get on with other deliveries.

Why would this driver in question decide to go looking under plant pots?

Of all the properties that he visited that day there must have been hundreds of plant pots, but stones, ornaments near front doors.

Given that he is so busy then he is unlikely to go lifting hundreds of plant pots during his working day, just on the off chance there may be money there.

Or did he have special psychic skills that led him to that exact plant pot where your money was placed?

I find that highly unlikely.

More likely has been stolen by someone that was watching you, or knows of your habits.

TrickyKid · 14/12/2018 17:38

Why would the delivery driver lift the pot up though?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 14/12/2018 17:38

If the money had been in plain view in an unlocked porch, instead of hidden under a pot, it’s still theft for the DPD driver to have helped himself to it, and I’m aghast that people don’t see that.

TonTonMacoute · 14/12/2018 17:38

Report it to the police, but don't expect them to do anything about it Angry.

It may spur DPD into looking into it with a bit more vim.

Snorkers · 14/12/2018 17:39

I know it was silly, and i can't prove it was dpd man
I also know i won't see it again.
It was not my neighbour he is as honest as they come. It is NOT my neighbour!
Really gutted as we are out of fuel, it's freezing.

AIBU to tell DPD to not come onto my property again? I donlt want this person near my house

shockers
Friend was subject to a break in once by 3 men carrying various weaponry whilst she was in the house.

Police didn’t even dust for finger prints or take even a photo of the muddy boot prints left on her kitchen floor.

Don’t think they would bother even coming out to dust for finger prints on a pot left outside.

speakout · 14/12/2018 17:41

Was the money intended for the log delivery person to help themselves to when he delivered logs?

Is this a usual arrangement?

Butchyrestingface · 14/12/2018 17:41

I concur. Why would a DPD delivery person start lifting up random plant pots?

Sucks though. Sad

Notquiteagandt · 14/12/2018 17:41

I cant imagine leaving money under plant pots is common.

Whilst leaving a spare key under one probally is.

I reccon he was looking for a key to break in. Which is even worse!!

Theres literally no other reason he would randomly look under a plant pot.

Snorkers · 14/12/2018 17:42

Speakout - my porch is open and the plant pot is the only item next to my door, and the drivers usually put parcels behind this pot to keep out out of sight - they sometimes move the pot against the door frame to keep it in place if its small

OP posts:
speakout · 14/12/2018 17:43

Does your log man take the money himself when he delivers logs?

Snorkers · 14/12/2018 17:44

Yes - he's delivered multiple times before i do not suspect him.

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 14/12/2018 17:46

How long does it take to swipe some cash? Confused

Sorry, I still suspect your neighbour no matter how many times you say it wasn't them.

littleducks · 14/12/2018 17:47

I'd call the police. A BT engineer stole a bag (less money than that in) from my house and police visited him at home. No evidence was found so it went no further but you have a witness

Snorkers · 14/12/2018 17:49

Worra liberty - as in 2 mins rather than 20 seconds.
It was not my neighbour - he is loaded he has no reason to nick money from me.

Wealthy people have been known to steal too. It isn't uncommon.

Andthatswhytheycallittheblues · 14/12/2018 17:52

Hold up. DPD have tracking on their couriers so you would have known exactly when the courier would arrive. You also knew that when he arrived it was likely he'd move the pot for the parcel to be placed behind. Why on earth then did you have to take your dogs out at that time? Something isn't right here and it's not DPD or the courier.

WorraLiberty · 14/12/2018 17:53

You don't know how much he's got in his bank though do you?

Besides, not everyone steals because they 'need to'.

speakout · 14/12/2018 17:53

Why was the neighbour taking such an interest in a delivery man " acting suspiciously"?

How does a delivery man "act suspiciously " anyway?

Delivery men here leave stuff in all sorts of places, may life wheelie bin lids, open doors etc.
All part of a days work.

Your log man may not have stolen the money but he may have let it slip to someone that you usually put cash under a pot in the garden- told a relative/friend/new employee.

And yes if the neighbour is such an attentive person he may well have noticed you go out and taken the cash himself.

I doubt the police will be interested, nor the delivery company, unless you have solid proof.

Fluffythrow · 14/12/2018 17:53

I think it was the neighbour what done it. Does your neighbour know you leave money for the log man?

MirandaGoshawk · 14/12/2018 17:54

Could the cash be seen? Would that be why the driver lifted up the pot?

Pinkyyy · 14/12/2018 17:54

OP just to warn you- I recently had a 5 week long battle with DPD to get refunded for a very expensive parcel that was 'lost' by the driver. The customer service is absolutely appalling and I really wanted to take my complaint further but gave up in the end out of immense frustration.

Snorkers · 14/12/2018 17:54

Police said they are looking into it and will consider dusting for prints but it's been passed to an investigator to decide.
The reason i am doubly suspicious is that the parcel was left somewhere it's never been left before, almost as if they did not want to draw attention to the fact they had even been near the usual place.
I don't hold out much hope.
DPD said now they will question the driver when he returns.

OP posts:
shouldwestayorshouldwego · 14/12/2018 17:54

The police might be interested if they think that they can actually solve this one. Isn't it all about crimes solved? With a witness, a roster etc. it should be straightforward to at least go and investigate. You probably have lost the money though.

Pinkyyy · 14/12/2018 17:55

But saying that, you have absolutely no proof that it was the driver so I doubt you'll get very far. I had CCTV footage to back up my claims and it still took 5 weeks for them to issue the refund.
