To ask if you look like shit?

No matter how much I mosturise, sleep, drink water, eat healthy(ish), remove my make up before bed, exfoliate, exercise etc etc etc ... all the usual stuff you're told to do I always look like shit. I'm due on my period next week so it's only going to get worse so my high hopes of looking all refreshed over Christmas are down the drain.

Does anyone else feel like this?

Yeah. I'm on medication that gives me acne. I'm unfit and thin like a lumpy wheezing skeleton. My skin has that waxy tinge of someone on a lot of medication. My hair has weird tufty bits coming off my forehead. My eyes water and I permanently have a slight nosebleed.
I used to consider myself quite attractive. I can wind it back to looking passable if I cake myself in make up and put on a smile but quite frankly I rarely have the energy.
I have had a cold this last week and am wearing all the jumpers.
I look like shit. But men, I am still alive and last Christmas I didn't know if I'd see another so... There's that

Reflexella · 15/12/2018 20:38

Go on a mirror diet and definitely get rid of any magnifying mirrors. It really helps.

Truckingonandon · 15/12/2018 20:40

I was traffic stoppingly beautiful. Jaw dropping. I really was 😁 Then I hit 47 and my looks fell off a cliff. I now look like shit. Baggy, saggy, jowly, ordinary, plain, just shit really. Ageing is tough but if I get lucky, it's only going one way, so I'd better get used to it.

OneStepMoreFun · 15/12/2018 20:52

In winter, I always look like shit. In summer I look years younger, with a light tan and sun-highlighted hair. But in winter my skin turns grey, hair mousey and flat, I have purple rings under my eyes, itchy red eyes from central heating, spots from fatty foods. And I am two stone overweight.

grumpy4squash · 15/12/2018 21:01

I look like shit.
I have a wobbly spare tyre where my waist used to be. My upper arms have started to flap. Everything is getting cellulitey and generally podgy. I have to dye my hair every 3 weeks to keeps the greys at bay. I never look elegant or even smart at work - I feel like Mummy Pig in a jacket.

IcedPurple · 15/12/2018 21:10

Why do men have this George Clooney gene where u hit 40 and bammm

I've always thought Clooney way overrated but he looked best in his ER days, when he wasn't yet 40. And have you seen him recently? Definitely hasn't aged well imho.

It's a myth that men age better than women. In my experience, the opposite is true, partly because women haven't been fed the lie that they 'age like a fine wine' and so make great efforts to keep up appearances. Men tend to let things go to seed. Not all, but most. I'm in my 40s and while I see good-looking, well-groomed women my age every day, I hardly ever see a similarly aged man who I find attractive.

Seabreeze18 · 16/12/2018 06:22

I think the trouble is very few people do nothing and look amazing, most of us women have to make a concerted effort.

If u can’t be bothered to put some make up on or do your hair or think about how u dress what do u expect?
I personally feel so much better with fake tan. I need to loose a couple of stone but I know what clothes suit my shape and even though they are only primark that’s what I wear.
Finding the right moisturiser for u is good to and actually the cheap £2 tube of Nivea worked better than the £30 cream for me and my breakouts have now improved.
Nothing will be an over night success but changing little things might be all u need to feel amazing

DuploRelatedInjury · 16/12/2018 07:21

I look awful. Up until about 6 years ago (23/24ish) I was still being offered child tickets on the bus. Now I've got wrinkles, grey hairs, flaky skin, flabby body, eye bags that would exceed the airline luggage limits. I've gained over 3st. I'm permanently exhausted and short tempered from lack of sleep as 4yo DC has started waking in the night again and 16mo DC has never slept through.

8 years of marriage and 2 DC have aged me!

PietariKontio · 16/12/2018 07:29

It's my age and up and down weight, but I look like shit. I care about 33% of the time; mainly when glancing at the mirror, looking at photos or considering why my wife fancies me.

Otherwise I have no f's to give. Age happens, and life happens, and I was never hot to begin with

frogface69 · 16/12/2018 07:32

If I didn't pluck for a month I would have a beard.
I always seem to feel and look better when I don't have anywhere to go.
Cest la buggery vie.
Now I am old I don't care so much what people think, I just wish I realised how lovely I was when I was young.
Bitter regrets over wasted angst.

AlaskanOilBaron · 16/12/2018 07:32

Mid-40s here, I think I look a lot better than I did at 40 (I've become incredibly high-maintenance, I spend about 10 hours a week between hair, skin and exercise) but far worse than I did at 30, when everything was effortless.

Nothing is easy when you have toddlers. Nothing.

TipseyTorvey · 16/12/2018 07:42

I looked fine til about 40 and people were always 'surprised' when I told them my age. Then i had DC 2 and never slept again. Can't seem to shift the last stone despite LCHF and running. It used to take a couple of minutes to put on basic makeup but now I have to carefully sculp it on to look reasonable. Then I do what a pp said and catch sight of myself in a car window and wonder why I bother as I look so awful. I'm still making the effort though, I veer towards depression if I don't do make up, hair up and dressed in a coordinated way every day. I'm hoping once my youngest is more self sufficient I'll get the odd hour to do more stuff for myself though. Pondering botox ....

goodbyeeee · 16/12/2018 07:54

43 in a few weeks and look shocking. Wrinkly, dry flabby face. Dark circles. Teeth ok but could be whiter. 3 year old who still wakes around 5 most days. Stressful job long commute. Figure ok but can't be arsed to eat well enough or exercise enough to get rid of my belly. Probably drink too much. I'll try and improve myself when DS2 goes to school!

LucieMorningstar · 16/12/2018 08:37

Bar maybe the day after I’ve had a shower, yeh I look like shit. I’m 37, skin is horrible, hair is going grey and need to lose some timber.

Then I look at my mate who’s 45, slim, gorgeous, long lovely hair and think bitch!!!

My friend is gorgeous and I’m a potato.

feelingverylazytoday · 16/12/2018 08:42

No I actually never think this, and nor do I think this about other people either. Leaving aside the weight issue (which I see as a health issue) most people look absolutely fine.
I never wear makeup and don't agree that 'most of us women have to make a concerted effort'. Do you think the same about men?

LordPickle · 16/12/2018 09:23

Yes! My problem is, I get ready and I think I look good, then someone takes a picture and I'm like "who the hell is that?" when I see myself. Confused

I must have trick mirrors because what I think I look like, and what a photo looks like, are simply not the same. Blush

Shutupanddance1 · 16/12/2018 10:32

Yep, I hear this! I’ve two little people under 3 (so basically no sleep) and I have vitiligo. I’m Caucasian so basically this means that I look like I’ve a bad fake tan job Sad - fucking sucks and my 2 pregnancies have made it worse!

But I did get my hair cut up and people have been commenting on it, saying it’s nice

SureIusedtobetaller · 16/12/2018 10:54

Unbelievably craptastically shit here.
Middle aged, overweight, skin a mess, no style.
I need to find my look- I’ve never liked conventional fashion, but now I need to sort myself out. There’s a fine line between free spirit and batshit crazy old lady.
I am planning for New Year but starting on skin, going for walks etc from now.

Punta · 16/12/2018 16:10

Yep...I’m 46. I looked great until 3-4 years ago. The stress of two parents dying of cancer and subsequent mental health issues, mean I stopped caring and went from size 12-14 to an 18.

I also have terrible allergies to mascara, so can’t even put that on the make me look better. I still look young for my age, but the weight gain is making me feel Sad

Ifangyow · 16/12/2018 16:26

Most days i look like i've been dressed by a blind man at a jumble sale before being dragged through a hedge backwards....twice!
I don't wear make up or defuzz anything simply because i can't be arsed.
If anyone has a problem with that then they can go tell someone who cares.

At the moment i'm dressed in knackered old leggings, topped off with a baggy old jumper that has a complimentary gravy stain on the front of it and hair that looks like i've been wired to the mains.
My give-a-fuck O meter is barely flickering. Smile

SecretWitch · 16/12/2018 19:00

I do try, I really do. Most days though, I look like Ma Kettle. Just give me a pitch fork and off I go.

Who ever took my lips, please return them. I miss them.

Applepudding2018 · 17/12/2018 09:00

@ILoveDolly Thanks

Miffymeow · 17/12/2018 10:39

Yesss! I'm 30 and for some reason I always look ill lately... and my coworkers certainly like to make me aware of it. Every day one of them asks if I'm tired. A few days ago one of them actually asked me "why do you always look so tired these days?" and another separately told me "you look even more tired than usual today"... Not helpful!
No matter how much sleep I get or water I drink I still have this hollow look under my eyes, no bags, but purple and hollow looking. My hair looks dull and lifeless, and I feel exhausted and stressed all the time. It's starting to really get me down.
I don't really bother wearing makeup anymore because I have just stopped caring at this point and I just wear comfy clothes to work because what is the point.
