To ask if you look like shit?

MrsCrapBag · 14/12/2018 12:42

No matter how much I mosturise, sleep, drink water, eat healthy(ish), remove my make up before bed, exfoliate, exercise etc etc etc ... all the usual stuff you're told to do I always look like shit. I'm due on my period next week so it's only going to get worse so my high hopes of looking all refreshed over Christmas are down the drain.

Does anyone else feel like this?

OP posts:
Beaverhausen · 14/12/2018 14:31

Yep I do, 47 and no matter how much extra effort put in I still look crap.

FaFoutis · 14/12/2018 14:31

I agree with you halfwit. I look better when I drink plenty of wine.

TroysMammy · 14/12/2018 14:33

I've got a cough and a cold. Not only do I look like shit, I feel like shit.

I look worse than the patients coming into the surgery that I work in.

Crimson72 · 14/12/2018 14:34

I haven't had a haircut in over two years, I never moisturise and haven't shaved my legs since summer Blush

So in answer to your question OP, yes!

DailyMailFail101 · 14/12/2018 14:34

Yes I always look awful, I have awful skin, big pores and nothing makes it look any better, I haven’t got the time or energy to apply a full face of make up everyday.

AbsentmindedWoman · 14/12/2018 14:38

Raising my hand! I look dreadful at the minute. Constantly bone tired, regularly queasy which means I'm not eating enough fruit and veg, and hair is falling out. Yay.

Cakemonger · 14/12/2018 14:39

I eat healthily, exercise, try to get sleep, do a skincare routine etc. My skin looks good but I always look a mess because I simply haven't the will to style my hair.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 14/12/2018 14:39

I've found that the whole problem is solved by just not caring! I have a facial scar, dull skin and grey hair. All of these things might bother other people, but I can't usually see them unless I look in a mirror.

I'm not landscaping myself to improve the view for other people and I haven't frightened any livestock yet, so while I might care one day, that day won't come for a while.

Snowdrifthill · 14/12/2018 14:42

Yes I do,
I've had a stinker of a cold for a fortnight, I've got grey skin and I've cut my own fringe it looks rubbish!

tiggerkid · 14/12/2018 14:42

I don't think you really look like shit. I am sure it's your perception due to excessive self-criticism. Try not to look in the mirror and look for faults. Most of us look worse than normal before period. I never noticed that in my 20s but absolutely do now. There is nobody, who looks perfect all the time but there is also nobody, who looks bad all the time. We all look good some of the time and not so good some of the time. That's normal, and as you can see from some celebrity photos even the best looking folk on the planet doesn't look that amazing sometimes. Don't be so harsh on yourself. It's Friday. Have a glass of wine and chill :) That would be my suggestion.

DarlingNikita · 14/12/2018 14:43

I always look like shit.
I've always had terrible eye bags and they only get worse.
I've inherited my looks from the side of my family that has a tendency to down-turned mouths and bloodhound-type jowls and cheeks.
My eyes are chronically dry and so always look bloodshot, and I have milk-bottle-top glasses so they're like very very small piss-holes in the snow.
I've got big feet and knobbly knees.
My hair is a bird's nest and resists attempts to be styled in any meaningful way.

Thankfully I am also old and tired enough not to give a flying one about any of this any more Grin

CaMePlaitPas · 14/12/2018 14:44

@Category - I could have written your post, in fact are you me? Late twenties, two children - toddler and a baby - used to be attractive, now look like the lady who feeds the birds in Mary Poppins. Dreadful.

Thurmanmurman · 14/12/2018 14:50

I’ve always looked young for my age until recently. 40 next year and it looks like all the drinking, smoking and partying in my 20s and 30s is finally catching up! I still have a half decent arse but that’s about as good as it gets.

Sgtmajormummy · 14/12/2018 14:50

LCHF has done wonders for my skin, nails and most noticeably hair. I’m of the “frizzy, used to be blonde, dyed straw with split ends“ genre and for the last 10 years have defaulted to a scraped back bun, just to get it out of the way.
Now with fats (animal and vegetable) making up a large proportion of my diet I can really see the difference. I brush my hair and it stays where I want it. I now have a fringe and am contemplating spending most days with my hair down. Unheard of!
No more sugar-induced skin breakouts. My liver is functioning better as I’m alcohol free and that shows in skin tone, too. Face is smoother but neck is craggier due to weight loss. Most of the kilos have gone from hips and legs not boobs (yay!) so some sagging but easily disguised. Scaly upper arms are gone.
At 51 I’m 5 months since my last period but they keep coming back so I can’t say I’ve reached full menopause yet but, at the risk of sounding evangelical, THIS DIET HAS BROUGHT ME BACK from a scary, shitty (!) place health-wise. I’m now 5 dress sizes smaller, full of energy and loving my strong healthy body.

However, you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear and I don’t think I’ll ever fit into the generally accepted definition of “beautiful”.
Grin

PlatypusPie · 14/12/2018 14:57

I think I look alright when I pout into a mirror when putting on some lipstick but then catch sight of myself unexpectedly in a window or shop mirror and see my father in a blonde wig looking back at me.

MonoClue · 14/12/2018 14:58

I’m just back from an emergency haircut Grin
I posted in Style and Beauty about catching sight of a frumpy old lady in a shop window the other day and realising it was me!
I went shopping yesterday and got a couple of outfits to see me through Winter and
hopefully 4 stones of weight loss before next Christmas Confused
I’m feeling a bit better about myself now.

Onecutefox · 14/12/2018 14:58

I have noticed that I look bad if the haircut isn't right, if my foundation or concealer colour isn't the right shade. I feel better putting concealer under my eyes and allover my face to have an even tone. A little bit of eye shadow to the eyes instead of the eye pencil and hair, yes, it needs to be cut right. Too long and I look too old, too short and I look too old Grin. Take care ladies and don't be to harsh on yourselves Flowers

abacucat · 14/12/2018 15:03

What matters is that your body works and does amazing things. Seriously the dynamics of walking is seriously complicated. Our bodies are all amazing. And I guarantee you will look back at photos of yourself in 20 years time and wish you still looked so good.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 14/12/2018 15:06

PlatypusPie “I think Iook alright.....then catch sight of myself unexpectedly in a window or a shop mirror” Yes, yes to this! I know I look a bit rough and wrinkly when I get up but when I do my hair & make-up, I feel fine, sometimes I even think I look quite good - right up until the moment when I catch myself off guard! I am clearly deluded. I look about 20 years older in real life than I do in my head. Every bit of my face and body has sagged. Nothing is where I think it is!

I’ve got the stye from hell on my eye lid this morning. It’s huge, red and leaking so I look like a bloodshot cyclops this morning. My other eye is watering in sympathy. In a desperate attempt to look less shit, I put some lipstick on which sort of matches the pinky red eyelid. I’ve clipped my fringe back at a jaunty angle with a sparkly clip, so it doesn’t go near my sore eye. DH says the hair clip and lippy don’t help much Smile

lilybetsy · 14/12/2018 15:30

I look loads better than I did in my 40's. I'm 54, slimmer (now normal BMI) have well cut hair that is treated with keratin and colour so t looks healthy and great, I dress well, minimal make up but some, and try to eat healthily. I don't drink alcohol don't smoke (do vape) and get a bit of Botox for the frown lines.

My kids are older now so I have more time for myself, and looking good boosts my confidence.

I'm no beauty, uneven face, hooked nose and pointy chin which is over large, but thsee days I make the best of what I have. I bet you all look great :-)

YouBetterWORK · 14/12/2018 15:31

I've lost weight, had a good haircut yesterday so lots to be content with but the sleepless nights with DD who has a bad cold, as do I, have taken a toll on my face. Dark circles which I never had before, dry skin, and my god the lines. All round my eyes, big creasy behemoth crow feet, ones that resemble a sheer cliff face under my eyes when I so much as grin, and worse of all a flap of skin on my eyelids with are starting to hood. Who am I kidding, starting?! They're there already! I'm 40 next year, and used to look so young for my age but it's crept up out of nowhere!

Grace212 · 14/12/2018 15:48

@snuggledonthesofa

"The trick is not to wear make up"

yes, I thought about this when I started wearing it....realising that people would get used to it and would think it's just what Grace looks like. Perhaps I made a mistake there!

Googlybearwazowski · 14/12/2018 15:51

Yes, I'm mid twenties, two young kids, self employed and permanently exhausted. I never wear any make up, hair is straggly and in need of care, often not brushed. I brush my teeth and wear deodorant but that's about it. I shave my legs twice a year probably! I'm a wreck. I'd rather keep the house clean and I can't even manage that so shrugs
