To ask if you look like shit?

No matter how much I mosturise, sleep, drink water, eat healthy(ish), remove my make up before bed, exfoliate, exercise etc etc etc ... all the usual stuff you're told to do I always look like shit. I'm due on my period next week so it's only going to get worse so my high hopes of looking all refreshed over Christmas are down the drain.

Does anyone else feel like this?

Past six months have been trying to drink more water and everyone said oh your complexion will thank you. Huh!! Granted there's menopausal stuff going on but my skin has been terrible.

Hedgehog80 · 14/12/2018 13:02

I have awful dark circles from sleepless nights with dc
If I could find a good concealer I would look a million times better but can’t seem to find the one

Mummblebee · 14/12/2018 13:02

Christmas Raven no you are not invisible!
Treat yourself to a hair salon appointment and a few new staple pieces for your wardrobe if you can. Get down to a department store and pick up some new make up items. Paint your nails! Pamper yourself! Don't ever let yourself fade into the background because you think you don't deserve to feel beautiful. To shine!

My pastor is 60 years old and she is bloody fabulous! She wears lashes, hair extentions, nails done...just as all of the young girls are doing. She dresses classy and looks amazing.

48 is still young!

MrsCrapBag · 14/12/2018 13:03

Smurfie12 - that's funny & yes a good job you have a GSOH. My DH to be fair tells me I look beautiful but I tell him he needs to get his money back from specsavers 😂

Went to the dentist last month so teeth feeling abit better minus the plaque. Had my hair cut at the end of November but she didn't do a great job this time so not overly pleased about that but I get anxiety going to the hairdressers so don't want to go back to complain.

I have a few pamper things planned next week so hoping I at least feel abit better even if I don't necessarily look it.

I currently do. Been gaining weight the past year. So I can't fit most of my nice clothes. Can't be bothered with makeup either tbh. Except if I go out. I do a bit.

Bitchfromhell · 14/12/2018 13:06

37 weeks pregnant here and by god I look shocking. Not sure why people talk about a glow? I have a slightly sweaty sheen and a double chin.

Grace212 · 14/12/2018 13:06

I've reached the stage where I don't want to leave the flat without makeup

3 years ago, I didn't wear make up!!! In fact, I probably started at 42...I don't know what happened. It's nothing to do with health either - in spring, before dad got sick, I was bursting with health and energy and just looked like shite. It seemed to happen overnight. Never had any idea about make up and had to learn quite fast.

I keep looking at friends the same age or older and thinking they look great, but I can't judge if that's partly make up.

Grace212 · 14/12/2018 13:07
  • judge

I mean can't tell, not sitting here being judgey!!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 14/12/2018 13:07

My sister once told me, doesnt matter how much you eat well, drink water, exercise etc.,..if you dont get enough sleep you will always look crap....so i dont bother eating well or exercising, will start again once my toddler is in her teens.

Davespecifico · 14/12/2018 13:08

I'm 48 and I think I look better than I did in my 20s and 30s. I have a good hair cut and Goldy/Blondie colour. I never leave my hair wavy, ghd it. I wear nice dark jeans and cashmere and boots that are smart/everyday. I wear full make up everyday. I feel more dignifiedlinr this.
I lack the height and the imagination to look wonderful, so I make sure to have a sort of uniform I feel good in.

EerieSilence · 14/12/2018 13:10

I got to the point where I don't care anymore. Funny enough, I have been getting compliments ever since :D

Mari50 · 14/12/2018 13:11

OnlyFoolsnMothers I get lots of sleep, the last few days i’ve managed 12 hours a day thanks to jet lag. I look fucked. And not in a cute sexy way, more in a road traffic accident kind of way.

Grapetree · 14/12/2018 13:13

Yes!!! I’ve posted about this before, I feel I have such a high maintenance body

No offence to the well meaning posters suggesting simple fixes such as fake tan, or getting your hair done .... no use on someone like me Blush
I eat sooo well, I’m in shape, don’t drink, etc but my skin is disgusting (thanks to poor genetics and stubborn PCOS), hirsutism, dark circles, dandruff, ptosis, eczema, acne, bulbous nose, KP

As well as frizzy hair, big feet, uneven brows stretch marks, the list is endless...
I feel like a sinking ship when it comes to my appearance. What’s scary is that I’m young (20s), and it’s only going to get worse

Twirlo · 14/12/2018 13:15

Yep, have a 12 week old and a 2 year old. Living in leggings and gross baggy jumpers. Will lose weight/make more effort/buy new clothes next year! 😬

Grace212 · 14/12/2018 13:15

Dave "I wear full make up everyday"

I look fine if I do that. What I want is to not care so that I'm not putting make up on. I want to accept my face as it is.

probably one reason I'm surprised by the change is I maybe don't know what most women my age look like without make up, if you see what I mean. and with so much botox and fillers going on, I might be thinking "I shouldn't look this way" when it's actually totally normal.

Toooldtocareanymore · 14/12/2018 13:15

ok you have just made me ring hairdressers and make an appointment, as yes I look shit I need a cut as its all straggly looking and need colour done, since October, and I've been too busy, I said I needed roots doing receptionist tells me as I haven't had colour done in over 6 months, I need an allergy test done again, they now have a six month rule and she's pretty sure its more than roots will need doing after all this time?? now ill feel worse all weekend till I can get it done

JingleJake · 14/12/2018 13:16

My hair is awful at the moment and my nails. Ive got bad skin and I refuse to buy new clothes until I’ve lost weight, plus sleep deprivation = me looking like shit

GhostSauce · 14/12/2018 13:17

I'm only 34 and look like total shit recently. At night I use hot cloth cleanser, glycolic toner, la roche moisturiser, serum. Olay total effects in the morning.

Still look like knackered shite. Eye bags, tired skin. I try to be in bed by 10 and drink loads of water.

Fuck sake.

HJWT · 14/12/2018 13:21

I have to use a cleansing battery powdered brush daily for dry skin, moisturise, serum, skin peel mask once a week, mario badescu spot drying lotion, and I get a facial once a month at my sisters shop, and when I get my period it all goes to shit again 😂😂😂

YetAnotherUser · 14/12/2018 13:21

I fell out of the ugly tree and hit all the branches on the way down.

I've made my peace with it Grin

HJWT · 14/12/2018 13:22

And don't forget the toner for my huge pores ! 🧐

RoyalChocolat · 14/12/2018 13:23

@amusedbush I am also 4-5 stone heavier than a year ago. We had the worst year ever and binge eating has taken my life over.
No matter what I do, I look like shit.

IHopeThisIsAGoodIdea · 14/12/2018 13:23

My once beautiful hair is now in a constant state of looking like shit, almost 8 months post partum. I know it will get better eventually But I have a load of white hairs I didn't have before and a feeling they're going to stick around. 😭

Jux · 14/12/2018 13:23

I'm 60. People say I don't look it, but I do look shit for whatever age you might think I am. My skin is dreadful, my hair dreadful. Do you know what? Ihave found that NOBODY CARES!! Whether it's because I'm old or because I'm disabled or both, I have no idea. I must say, I stopped worrying about how awful I looked quite a while ago....

GoblinsAndGhouls · 14/12/2018 13:23

I don't know if it's worth trying but my skin is loads better since I started using the oil cleansing method.

I use coconut oil generally. People often think I'm younger than I am and I'm mid 40s.

I don't smoke, don't drink much, but don't eat particularly healthily and I rarely wear make up.

I can also pretty much guarantee that no one else is as critical of your appearance as you are.
