To ask if you look like shit?

No matter how much I mosturise, sleep, drink water, eat healthy(ish), remove my make up before bed, exfoliate, exercise etc etc etc ... all the usual stuff you're told to do I always look like shit. I'm due on my period next week so it's only going to get worse so my high hopes of looking all refreshed over Christmas are down the drain.

Does anyone else feel like this?

If you think you're looking rougher than you "should", given your lifestyle and grooming, checking your blood pressure at a few different times of day might be worth doing. It being on the blink in one way or the other can stop your face getting the hydration it needs. That's aged me, but within the limits of the damage it's done, I look a lot better since getting it treated.

Babygrey7 · 14/12/2018 16:08

I always feel that I look rough at this time of year.

red nose with a permanent drip (what can i do about that?drives me mental) and tired eyes (I have no puffy eyes in summer, only in winter, again...why?)

maybe I am allergic to dust and in summer I take cetirizine for hay fever, but stop in winter...hmmm worth a try?! Not even sure you should take cetirizine year-round

pfff I am just so tired, and it shows

@Babygrey7

you might have general rhinitis/allergic rhinitis

my dad had that, not all his life, but for a few years. Weird. Had to use antihistamine or steroid nasal spray all year round at those times.

JudasPrudy · 14/12/2018 16:21

Yeah I look like total crap.

isitthehormones · 14/12/2018 16:36

I got some fancier than usual skin care bits for my birthday and to anyone else it might not have made a difference but it has to me. Also, because to me is bit more luxurious (Liz Earle), I feel really good after using it and had been really self conscious of my hormonal pregnancy skin.

I’d love someone to give out quick tips that take hardly any time / don’t cost a fortune but can either physically or mentally make a real difference.

lilyheather1 · 14/12/2018 16:50

I'm 27 and look like shit most daysGrin normal weight, normal height but my lifestyle is killing my skin. I walk my dogs for an hour every morning before work and the cold weather is making my face suffer. No amount of moisturising seems to help. Add that to stress- induced adult acne and lank hair it's a wonder I manage to pull myself together at least enough for work. Saying that though, I wouldn't give up my country lifestyle for anything, and my dogs are more than worth it Smile

tartantroosers · 14/12/2018 18:07

I hear you! I always looked much younger Han my age until about 50 then no one said "really?" Anymore :-(. Now too busy with busy job and boy turning into a teen! A couple of things which have helped:

  1. In est in a really good cut and colour - get some consultations first
  2. Tan- I found this wonderful stuff which you add a couple of drops to your moisturiser. It's so natural and not stinky. Can be used with body moisturiser too.
  3. Eyebrows. Tint and thread. Makes you look more awake and youthful!
  4. Eyelash curlers. Same.
Hope this helps. Ageing does suck though even ylthough im much happier all round.

Awful typos- sorry!

Sarcelle · 14/12/2018 23:16

I am 53. Have more shit looking days than not, regardless of any regimes. My face is a game of two halves. The first half of the day I look ancient. Second half, it settles and falls into place and I don't look too bad. Jeez, I don't look too bad, that's as good as it gets these days.

NameChangeToAvoidBeingFound · 15/12/2018 02:26

I'm 23,, short, overweight and wear all the wrong things for my shape. I still have acne and generally always look rather crap, rumpled out of place next to my friends who rage from looking sleek and well put together or cutesy.

Biggerknickersagain · 15/12/2018 09:28

Yep!
I can no longer leap out of bed and dash out of the house - my face looks like a crumpled rag for the first hour I'm up until gravity does it's thing and it gradually uncrumples itself.
Unfortunately the downside to that gravity is making itself known in other areas! Grin

Add to that no dress sense, too lazy to wear makeup and that I have thin, wispy hair on my head and thick wiry stuff on my face and I look like something out of The Witches!

Writing that I Think I've just discovered why I'm single 🤔😂

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 15/12/2018 11:59

Oddly enough since moaning here, my spots seem to be clearing up. {Spooky!} Except for the angry one in the middle of my forehead that can probably be seen from Space.

Whataboutbobbo · 15/12/2018 18:15

Yes I look like shit. Big fat effing munter. Hair needs colouring and don't bother wearing make up. An oil painting I am not.

Worriedwombat2015 · 15/12/2018 19:06

Me me me! Somehow my skin is able to be dry and flaky yet also oily and spotty. It's a state.

Between the ever increasing and darkening bastard hair on my upper lip and the greys that poke through my hair dye a week after doing it, I look like a bag of crap.

Add to that all the post pregnancy sagginess and stretch marks of boobs and tummy, that will never be fixed.... urgh.

I need more sleep, too tired to do my nails, I drink lots of water, hair is the worst thing, so time consuming trying to hide those bastard greys. I'm only in my mid thirties ffs.

youvegottobekidding · 15/12/2018 19:08

I do! I look sad & tired, I get told that quite a lot, that I look knackered! I do 'wear' make up but just not a great deal of it, I just cba at the moment and I guess it shows. Oh well 😔

Seabreeze18 · 15/12/2018 19:16

Edwinbear have u had your thyroid checked?

Mummadeeze · 15/12/2018 19:18

I am 44 and get lots of compliments about how I look now. I used to be about 3 stone heavier, frumpy, quite unbothered about grooming but I didn’t feel great. Things that have helped: I gave up dairy (I developed an allergy but I think it has made me slimmer and much healthier looking), I ramped up the exercise (am currently exercising between 4-5 hrs a week), I put fake tan on my face twice a week (REALLY helps), I started grooming and using pencil on my eyebrows, found a lipstick that suits me, darkened my hair a bit. I feel like a different person now and it has helped my self esteem to some extent. Don’t give up on yourself, it is never too late!

xwhoiamx · 15/12/2018 19:24

Oh hell yeah. I have permanent dark circles under my eyes (and I mean permanent - not just that I'm always tired or whatever, but they're just THERE however much sleep I've had or what I'm eating) so I tend to look like I've just been dug up a lot of the time. Concealer makes it worse cos the skin is dry so it just cakes on and looks so obvious I'd have been better skipping it. So yeah. But don't care. It's much more emotionally healthy (and cheap) to accept myself for who I am and not worry or try to fix.

ethelfleda · 15/12/2018 19:39

Yep. I look fucking awful despite my best attempts.

ethelfleda · 15/12/2018 19:55

My problem is that I think I look ok but I catch sight of my face and my expressions make me look awful. I’m only 34... but my smile is horrible, my laugh is terrible and makes me look like I’m gurning and my frown is just as shit. I use a lot of exaggerated facial expressions and I have no idea why. I try to remind myself not to but I can’t help it Sad

I’ve have a 13 month old and the breastfeeding and the lack of sleep have left my skin dull and haggard

I pretty much hate myself at the moment.

VulgarVulva · 15/12/2018 19:58

I look like shite, but give zero fucks!

Oysterbabe · 15/12/2018 19:59

I look like shit.
I haven't slept since eldest was born 3 years ago. Youngest is 1 and I still have almost 2st of baby weight. I never buy new clothes because it makes me feel depressed. I can't be bothered to put on make up. I have my hair cut about once a year.
I look like shit.

shiveringtimber · 15/12/2018 20:25

I'm 56 but blessed with good genes so normally look ten years younger. Recently however, I look more my age. I'm really suffering from stress and insomnia. It's depressing.

Dimsumlosesum · 15/12/2018 20:27

Absolutely, do I look like shit. Started to happen as I passed 27. Then children just sped it all along, and now I will never have the same kind of face again. I guess at least if my husband leaves me though I won't have to worry about dating, because i'll know in advance no one would want me lol.
