To ask what you think a normal house temperature is?

DH grew up with parents who have the thermostat set to 23 degrees day and night - to me this is swelteringly hot, and I sleep without covers on (or the window open if I can get away with it!). My parents, on the other hand, set theirs to 18 or 19 degrees during the day, and 16 degrees at night.

DH prefers a warmer house, I prefer a cooler one, so we have frequent heating wars!

What do you consider a 'normal' temperature for a UK home?

22 during the day and 19 at night

Around 25 around the clock. I am from a country with long and very cold winters and I am used to warm room temperatures. My first winter in the UK was a huge shock to me, with a landlady who did not turn the boiler on unless it was sub zero outside.

I work in science and room temperature is defined as 22C at our work.

jarhead123 · 15/12/2018 20:12

19/20 but did put it up to 21 today ( poorly house)

20-21 here. I am a cold person and grew up in a freezing house so I like to keep ours warm

blackteasplease · 15/12/2018 20:43

19 or 20 in the day. Cooler at night.

23 would drive me up the wall!

PancakesAndMapleSyrup · 15/12/2018 20:53

22 in the day 19 at night and even then I feel chilly!

We have the heating on constantly and for most of the year. Temperature is currently at 24 and I’m in fleecy pyjamas with a blanket. I sleep right next to my radiator too. My hands and feet are constantly cold.
My dd has her radiator off and sleeps in underwear. We call her room the freezer!

bananafish81 · 15/12/2018 23:16

21-22 - am freezing just thinking about the idea of sleeping with the bedroom window open, let alone radiator off

Heating on, window firmly shut, 13.5 tog duvet and currently wearing uniqlo heat tech thermal leggings and fleecy top as PJs

20 during day, but heating goes off 2.30pm to 4.30pm, and then off at night. Like a cold bedroom, windows open the year round and temp, ideally not above 10, preferably lower. Things have been difficult the last two years or so though, due to someone creating a stink every day with their wood burner and fumes entering our house. The rank smell doesn't dissipate until the small hours so, poor sleep for us, due to no fresh air.

jxnx · 16/12/2018 00:35

23 far to warm, generally around 19ish and not on overnight unless there is snow on the ground. Layer up an if you're cold then heat goes up (sound like my mother now)

I am at home all the time in a very well insulated flat. Heating gets turned on end of october and turned end of april.
Setting thermostat at 17 during the day(10-6) will give a room temp of 21
Turned down at 6pm to 14 will give a temperature of 18 by about 2am
I have a weather station and a cheap digital hygrometer to measure temperature and humidity in living room and bedroom as the flat was way too hot when thermostat was set at 20(room temp was 25). I keep my bedroom cooler at 18.
If I was not in poor health the heating would rarely be on as I was a very outdoors person and did not feel the cold!
