Many people and organisations use these words interchangerbly. The meaning is always clear. I actually don't give a stuff if others disagree.

I'm with tell I care if the TRA is triggered by the word woman being used as it's meant to be and not the way they want it to be as they aren't just shouty keyboard warriors they are actively and violently attacking women who are rightfully questioning the dogma they are trying to push that TWAW. Just look at what happened to Prof. Rosa Freedman at Reading University, her office door was covered in urine and she has been stalked and harassed because of her stance in the trans-rights debate. A 60 year old woman was punched in the face by a TRA member, in public, and when that went to trial the 6"+ tall trans-woman was given a lesser sentence because the woman she bashed didn't call her 'she'. Not to mention what is happening with men being transferred to women's prisons because of how they identify Angry. The TRA are trying to not only silence women but to erase us completely and they aren't just being 'triggered' on twitter. It is real and it is terrifying.

I agree with yours, who wouldn't? But

I care because or the erosion of women and the eradication of their safe spaces.
I care because of women's sports and the insistence that men feel like women so can therefore compete with them.
I care because for every news story where a woman stand against it, only to be torn down, there's another 50 women that didn't make the news.
I care because I don't want my daughter to be less safe just to make a man feel better.
I care because I don't want my.daughter to be put at risk because a rapist decides he's female.

Sex and gender arent interchangable. Sex and gender are important. Sex and gender are worth fighting for because, if you don't, woman rights will fall to a third position behind mens rights and behind trans rights and I don't want that to happen.

SwimmingKaren · 12/12/2018 14:08

I care mainly because they are two words with entirely different meanings. Grin

YES, YES, YES!!!

NonExistentFox · 12/12/2018 14:29

For anyone monitoring this thread, Germaine Bunbury's work gives a pretty clear explanation of the difference. You may want to look her up.

You mean that's not Oscar Wilde's lesbian drag name?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 12/12/2018 14:44

Sorry to cut in, but I thought it was the intent which was being policed on Twitter; i.e. the intent to cause distress

fucking hell, if you're distressed by dictionary definitions, you need to rethink your life choices

jesus

NonExistentFox · 12/12/2018 14:58

Gender is a social construct

Could someone humour me, just for once on this, and prove it, please?

Avegemitesandwich · 12/12/2018 15:05

What you call "personality" I call personality and identity, including - for example - gender identity.

What do you mean by 'gender identity' here please?

Avegemitesandwich · 12/12/2018 15:07

When Malala Yousafzai got shot in the head by the Taliban, why was that again? Was that to do with her gender identity? Could she have just said 'wait l, I identify as a boy, let me go to school' and avoided the whole fiasco?

Silly Malala......

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 12/12/2018 15:08

So Nonexistantfox, do you think gender stereotypes are innate?

Crikey

Avegemitesandwich · 12/12/2018 15:10

Could someone humour me, just for once on this, and prove it, please?

So you believe in 'lady brain' then? Or that if a woman has good spatial awareness skills, then she actually has a male brain?

raspberryTrousers · 12/12/2018 15:14

"woman rights will fall to a third position behind mens rights and behind trans rights and I don't want that to happen."

Can you tell me where that happens in the UK?

HandsOffMyRights · 12/12/2018 15:15

I care.

Sex is a protected characteristic. Single sex spaces and protections/laws were introduced for a reason. If you replace 'sex' with gender, those rules become redundant. Women and girls no longer have protections.

This is why I will always cross out 'gender' on forms and replace 'sex'. Once we erase the word 'sex' we erase women's rights.

HandsOffMyRights · 12/12/2018 15:16

Replace with the correct word, 'sex'.

HandsOffMyRights · 12/12/2018 15:20

Those who are confused or ambivalent should read this excellent article by Professor Katheen Stock:

medium.com/@kathleenstock/what-i-believe-about-sex-and-gender-and-what-i-dont-15da1cba88c6

HandsOffMyRights · 12/12/2018 15:23

*Some transwomen argue for a conceptual revision, not just of the term ‘woman’ but also the term ‘mother’. The social implications of this, if successful, are unknown and under-theorised.

Still 'not bovvered' by the twisting of language?

raspberryTrousers · 12/12/2018 15:25

No, @HandsOffMyRights. Completely unbovvered.

Some people argue that the Earth is flat. It has no impact on me.

KlutzyDraconequus · 12/12/2018 15:31

Can you tell me where that happens in the UK?

Do you want news articles or just generally?
Or are you trying to say it doesn't happen?

Ian Huntley is now a woman btw. He's named himself after the mother of one of his victims and now wants moving to a woman's prison.

So that's putting his rights ahead of the women in the prison he wants to move too, ahead of the rights of his victims families to live without more hurt being caused by him.

There's also Posie Parker.
Her rights as a woman to defend herself and her woman hood. Her rights trampled by a man who says he's a woman.

How about the girl guides?
Every single girl in the girls guides has had to have their rights to single sex spaces removed to make way for people born male on the say so that they're Trans.

But I'm guessing these examples.probably.dont count to you for some reason.

GlitterStick · 12/12/2018 15:35

I'm with raspberry trousers and ratrolypoly on this one.
Also agree with the poster who said you don't bond with the sex, do you? You bond with the gender.
That's a fair point!

Helmetbymidnight · 12/12/2018 15:36

Also agree with the poster who said you don't bond with the sex, do you? You bond with the gender.

I don’t know what that means- can you explain?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 12/12/2018 15:37

I'm pretty sure I would have bonded with my children regardless of their sex or gender

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 12/12/2018 15:37

so this

you don't bond with the sex, do you? You bond with the gender

makes me Confused

RivanQueen · 12/12/2018 15:39

Raspberry you should be bovvered, we all should be, and if you as a woman (and I am just assuming you are a woman in the true and biological sense seeing as this is an anonymous forum) ever find yourself in a space like a hospital ward, open changing room or anywhere else that should be kept single-SEX (for a myriad reasons) alongside a full bodied man who is in there because he identifies his gender as female (or really anything other than male seeing as the list of gender options nowadays is insanely long) you might just change your mind especially if his intentions are not good
Or how about the young women of the world who could end up having to share these spaces because menz feels and their rights and trans rights should always take precedence over womens' rights, what about them?
Women of certain religions? How about them?
Elderly women? Them? Do they matter?
Do any women matter to you? Do you think any of them would be bovvered? I'm fucking bothered let me tell you.
Women don't have penises, men don't have vaginas, I don't want penises in women's only spaces.

Avegemitesandwich · 12/12/2018 15:39

Can you tell me where that happens in the UK?

If the GRA is reformed to allow self id this is exactly what will happen. You have been following haven't you?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 12/12/2018 15:40

bernard

To be fair i think you probably bond with the stereotype
