Many people and organisations use these words interchangerbly. The meaning is always clear. I actually don't give a stuff if others disagree.

We - humans.

FamilyOfAliens · 13/12/2018 08:28

We - humans.

So you’re soeaking for the whole human race now?

GlitterStick · 13/12/2018 08:35

Did you miss the bit where I said I think? I wasn't speaking for everyone.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 13/12/2018 08:37

I'm still waiting to understand why we should dismantle perfectly functional safeguarding precautions because there's stuff the human race doesn't know yet

anytime you feel like explaining it NonExistentFox or GlitterStick, I'll be right here, all ears

FamilyOfAliens · 13/12/2018 08:38

No I didn’t miss that bit.

You said you think there are things we don’t fully understand, which means it’s your opinion.

My opinion is it’s just you who doesn’t fully understand either what a transwoman is or what a woman is, and that’s why you think everyone else doesn’t either.

Ereshkigal · 13/12/2018 08:39

I'd venture that the Taliban don't know about the existence of neutrinos, either. Both the Taliban and neutrinos exist nonetheless, though.

LOL. No one is saying male people who don't identify with masculinity haven't ever existed in history. Absolutely no one. What we are challenging is that there is anything else to it.

Ereshkigal · 13/12/2018 08:41

The kind of doctor who would refuse hormone treatment if you didn't show enough concern about the shapeliness of your ankles.

You sound intimately acquainted with the process. I'm guessing you have a dog in this fight?

GlitterStick · 13/12/2018 08:41

All ears to listen to other views sensibly Grin alrighty then lol

Gileswithachainsaw · 13/12/2018 08:42

Are you ready to give a definition yet?

What makes a woman ?

Ereshkigal · 13/12/2018 08:43

I predict this thread will go the same as the many other threads where posters have failed/refused to define clearly what a "transwoman" is.

FamilyOfAliens · 13/12/2018 08:44

glitter

Why not share your definition of a transwoman and then people can decide.

GlitterStick · 13/12/2018 08:45

I think I need a rolly around the floor emoticon. Yeah, seen enough of these threads to see it always goes the way of define woman" demands. Grin

xwhoiamx · 13/12/2018 08:45

Hiya, professional biologist here, sex and gender are different words that mean different things

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 13/12/2018 08:47

yes, come on Glitter

stop being snarky and help me understand

why does somebodies gender identity mean we need to expose women and girls to increased risk of sexual assault and voyeurism?

because that's what happens when you change toilets and changing rooms from single sex to mixed sex

if you're happy with that outcome then you must have a really good reason

I'm not asking you to do anything unpleasant or painful, just explain to me how you have reached your conclusions

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 13/12/2018 08:48

and if you're upset about the requests for your definition of woman:

shut them down by providing it

it's really very simple

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 13/12/2018 08:50

But glitter that's kind of the point.
If people say they 'feel like a woman, so they ARE one', then it's reasonable for others (who don't agree) to ask what they mean by that.
Especially when we are being asked to give up protections and invite people who we see as men into previously segregated spaces, and when we get abuse and threats for saying 'well I don't agree that someone who 'feels' like a woman, actually IS one'.
Just tell us what you mean. What does it feel like to be a woman? Especially when you have a male body?

FamilyOfAliens · 13/12/2018 08:51

Yeah, seen enough of these threads to see it always goes the way of define woman" demands.

The solution is in your hands.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 13/12/2018 09:00

And I'm a bit sad that RaspberryTrousers with the amazing convenient career and the delicately built cage fighting husband never came back

FamilyOfAliens · 13/12/2018 09:02

bernard

Ereshkigal · 13/12/2018 09:02

I feel she may be. Don't fret.

Ereshkigal · 13/12/2018 09:03

I mean I'm sure she just had some important headmistress stuff to do.

Datun · 13/12/2018 09:05

My sister wants to send to her daughter to a single sex school based on the statistics of single sex learning. But if the school, as in the girl guides, was advertised as a single gender school the outcome could be completely different. And the opposite to the one she seeking.

Many people say gender when they mean sex, and we understand what they are saying.

But in the world of identity politics, the conflation of sex with gender is entirely deliberate.

Identifying as the opposite gender is fine, no one cares. It's only inhabiting superficial gender roles. But that quickly switches to and therefore rights based on sex should be ceded.

It's not an accident.

FamilyOfAliens · 13/12/2018 09:06

She’s unemployed, erishkigal.

Or “between jobs” if you prefer a more euphemistic phrase.

Ereshkigal · 13/12/2018 09:07

Oh I missed that.

TwistedChristmas · 13/12/2018 09:07

Funny how none of the people who say TWAW can actually define what makes them so. "Because I say so" doesn't really work does it.
