Mrs May. Who's going to replace her as PM?

After her performance yesterday it's simply a matter of time? Or is it? Who is fit to replace her? I can't think of a time when there was nobody I'd entrust the country to by voting for them but now here we are. What on earth is going to happen?

But I didn’t vote leave on the basis of lies that were spoon fed to me. Why insult the intelligence of those who voted to leave? Some of us did our research and truly believe it would be better to leave, and voted accordingly. Not because we were gullible.

PebbleDashed · 12/12/2018 18:14

Some, no doubt, did. However many on both sides did not. I tend to think that there are more who did not on the leavers' side. We can all agree on the amount of lies that were being spread around I should think?

PebbleDashed · 12/12/2018 18:18

I'm of the opinion that none of us, or very few, can truly know what we're voting for in this matter anyway. Moderate voices and information rather than soundbites and rubbish might have helped, if only to stop us being so divided as a result.

TracyBeakerSoChristmas · 12/12/2018 18:19

I'm beginning to think that only these guys would be better at running the country & sorting out this stupid Brexit mess.

Mrs May. Who's going to replace her as PM?
RoboticMary · 12/12/2018 18:23

@PebbleDashed I respectfully disagree. I think just as many lies were told by the remain camp. But regardless - the vote was to leave, we should leave, without this crummy deal TM is offering.

hackmum · 12/12/2018 18:27

RoboticMary: "Some of us did our research and truly believe it would be better to leave, and voted accordingly."

Do you still think it would be better to leave?

Do you think that if Jacob Rees-Mogg now became leader, he would negotiate a better deal than May's, given the EU has categorically said it won't negotiate a new deal?

What's your solution to the Irish border problem?

RoboticMary · 12/12/2018 18:28

I do think it would be best to leave, yes. I’ve long thought so. I would hope that Rees-Mogg walks away without a deal.

sunshineNdaisies · 12/12/2018 18:31

I feel bloody sorry for TM. She inherited a mess and she does seem to be trying her best but there is no deal that will make everyone happy.

I voted remain but I get annoyed at all the hope that Brexit can be reversed, maybe it can, but that's not democratic. People should get what they voted for, whether or not they understood what that meant.

Talkinpeece · 12/12/2018 19:05

People should get what they voted for, whether or not they understood what that meant.
But when they understand they should have the democratic right to change their minds
AS THE TORY MPs ARE DOING ABOUT HER RIGHT NOW

yolofish · 12/12/2018 19:23

like turkeys and Christmas you mean?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/12/2018 19:25

As said, TM trying to cut a deal involving going before the next election was to be expected, but how's that going to work in practice if she gets through tonight?

Hard to negotiate anything if you're surrounded by folk asking when you're going to go ...

Deadbudgie · 12/12/2018 20:59

Robotic, I agree that many leavers undertook quite a lot of research to reach their conclusion, myself included. Many people both sides had no idea what they were voting for. There just wasn’t a lot of information given out by either side. A sizeable portion of my degree studied EU law and I felt quite poorly informed, having to do my research. I do think that if the campaign had been run more along the lines of explaining what the EU is, examples of how the framework of the EU had been already used to undermine fundamental areas of uk law including creating streams of tax leakage from the uk, what the plans for an ever closer union were and the implications for exercising our opt out in the long term were the leave vote might have been bigger.

You can only really negotiate if you’re prepared to walk away. Before we started negotiations we should have had a no deal plan we were prepared to fall back on. We should have spoken to other countries re trade deals, put contingency plans in place to cover disruption to trade. Given more thought re the borders, speaking with the N Irish and the Irish governments.

Deadbudgie · 12/12/2018 21:00

So she stays

AlaskanOilBaron · 12/12/2018 21:02

Yep, she survived. What a farce.

You can only really negotiate if you’re prepared to walk away

Yep.

brizzledrizzle · 12/12/2018 21:04

JRM is calling for her to go to see the Queen and resign.

Deadbudgie · 12/12/2018 21:06

Yep, think Laura basically agreed with mr Rees-Mogg. Tbf he presented his point well.

CloserIAm2Fine · 12/12/2018 21:07

I would rather any of them than the vile Rees-Mog. All politicians are awful, especially Tories, but he is absolutely a vile despicable human being who justifies his hatred of everyone not like him using religion.

brizzledrizzle · 12/12/2018 21:08

Sooty and Sweep would be miles better than the current incumbents .

Mrs May. Who's going to replace her as PM?
Deadbudgie · 12/12/2018 21:09

On a sepetate note is Laura k the hardest working person in the uk? Does she sleep?

Talkinpeece · 12/12/2018 21:11

@Deadbudgie
There just wasn’t a lot of information given out by either side.
There was
but the pro Brexit press aided and abetted by Putin and Farage called it "Project Fear"

brizzledrizzle · 12/12/2018 21:11

They've got a clone hidden away in cupboard somewhere and bring her out when the other is asleep.

Oblomov18 · 12/12/2018 21:13

I can't believe anyone is seriously suggesting that another politician should take over from her/could have done a better job in the past.

I'm no fan of TM. But seriously no one else comes close!!

alansleftfoot · 12/12/2018 21:13

Larry the cat

Oblomov18 · 12/12/2018 21:17

How has this affected her Diabetes? As a T1 myself, on a pump, and a libre.

Im well aware the damage stress does to your control.

But, I'm intrigued as to what affects EXACTLY it's been reported, how exactly people know how it's affected her Diabetes?
HmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmm

NotAColdWomanHenry:
"stress and pressure in an older person with diabetes is the kind of situation that can lead to a collapse/heart attack/stroke/etc. "

Really?
Says who?
Where does this medical opinion come from?
